Thracian Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 Thracian telling Finners to be realistic How many goals did Fyatt get last time in the Championship? Last time we were in the Championship we got relegated, now we are 2 points off third. Is that not an improvement by an attacking player and the team now we're "back at the level we used to be". Fryatt was hardly ever properly fit in our last Championship season and I often failed to understand why he was picked at all so comparing this season with that one is totally misleading. Most of us knew Fryatt could and would score goals in Division One last season and before you say that sounds dismissive Pearson and co did a couple of things that were vitally important to Fryatt. They played him with a settled partner and they kept him fully fit. This year he seemed to start off with all the action of a Bonfire Night sparkler but, apart from his fitness, he's starting to look suspiciously like the old Fryatt again - that is the guy who started with a run of goals for us and then began spluttering and misfiring. So no there has not been an improvement. In fact his Championship form seems to be mirroring that of his first season with us. Can he leap better? Does he see a pass better? Does he shoot from long range or win glancing headers on the near post? Has he become a better six-yard-box predator? No. All Fryatt's limitations remain the same as they were three years ago apart froim his fitness and that is almost certainly down to the fact that he's no longer injured. I would love to see Fryatt improve. I would love to have seen Gradel improve or Hobbs, or N'Guessan or Dyer. But give me some evidence Babs. Even Kingy - one of our undoubted success stories - is actually using just a fraction of his capabilities these days. He's the playmaker and Saturday was the only time this season he seems to have been allowed to be anything more. Yet the real King is a good attacker, a decent free-kick taker from the right position, a player with the ability to ghost late into the box. Now, while he is undoubtedly one of the most efficient and reliable players we have he is fundamentally just our team's conduit - the man who is there when we win the ball, who sorts out much of our distribution and who covers so much of the space the opposition might like to use. As an attacker he now has but a bit part and we're scoring fewer goals.
Head Honcho Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 .................does this mean we are now officially a feeder team for Leeds?
Babylon Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 I would love to see Fryatt improve. I would love to have seen Gradel improve or Hobbs, or N'Guessan or Dyer. But give me some evidence Babs. Give me evidence they haven't. We are playing in a different league, how can anyone know if they have or haven't improved when we are playing better players we in week out?

You could just as easily say we're only four points off 19th. And that with seemingly better players than we had when last in the Championship.

Well he can obviously bloody shoot better considering his goal ratios.

Whether we are 2 points from 3rd or 4 points from 19th we have improved from when we were last hear. Who signed the better players?

Gradel was briefly involved early season and has now been loaned out cos he's not required. N'Guessan was in the team regularly but now is not. Dyer was an automatic choice during his first half-season here but has since stopped being so.
Fox92 Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 On the bench tonight against Norwich. Anybody watching the game?
MC Prussian Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 On the bench tonight against Norwich.Anybody watching the game? I shall watch this via iraqgoals. Alongside the Fulham vs. Hull City match-up.

And what if they just aren't good enough for a higher league, and what they are offering is the best they can?
Thracian Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 Whether we are 2 points from 3rd or 4 points from 19th we have improved from when we were last hear. Who signed the better players? Yes. Seeing as Pearson signed such good players why have so many of them looked no better than ordinary on the pitch and why are we scoring so few goals and creating so little?
Joe. Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 I think this is a great move for him personally. It's pointless him staying here if he's getting no time, and Leeds are about the best side he could go to for a so-called "step-down".
syston_fox Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 As much as I dislike Leeds, it is a great move for him and if he can force his way into the team then it can only be good for us! Gives him some match practice and it will only make him stronger and more hungry for regular football when he returns.
Daggers Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 One free kick against MK, a couple a mazy runs against Peterborough and...err...that was pretty much his season last year. Gradel has conspired to promise so much and yet deliver so little (apart from when he goes on loan). If he comes back a better player, good.
davieG Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 It's only a great move if he gets some decent game time.
Hitesh Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 It's only a great move if he gets some decent game time. This.
Babylon Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 Yes. Seeing as Pearson signed such good players why have so many of them looked no better than ordinary on the pitch and why are we scoring so few goals and creating so little? So one minute we have "seemingly better players" to suit your argument, now the players are "ordinary" to suit your argument. What is it, has he signed better players than we had before or not? Maybe they look fairly ordinary because most of them barring a couple are either free transfers or a few 100k. Forest spent about £8m and are only a point better off. Weale - Free, Berner - Free, Hobbs - 400k, Brown - 200k, Morrison - Free/100k ish. For starters there's the third best defence in the league for 600/700k. Whats he had to strengthen the midfield and attack? About £1m for wellens, 600k for Gallagher, the rest all frees and loans. Rather harsh to have a go at his signings considering what he has manged to fashion out of not a great deal of money... so far!!
Budweiser Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 Yes. Seeing as Pearson signed such good players why have so many of them looked no better than ordinary on the pitch and why are we scoring so few goals and creating so little? You are so negative it's untrue. I haven't seen you praise City for god knows how long. Look on the brightside yeh?
Babylon Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 You are so negative it's untrue. I haven't seen you praise City for god knows how long.Look on the brightside yeh? This is the most positive Thracian has ever been, normally he has me wanting to throw my mac out the window. So far I've only kicked the dog a couple of times.
Thracian Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 You are so negative it's untrue. I haven't seen you praise City for god knows how long.Look on the brightside yeh? I roundly praised Pearson for adding Waghorn and DJ to our strikeforce at Coventry, so saving the game, and offered stacks of praise for our first half efforts at Watford - and our equaliser. Doesn't make anything I've said less true or less relevent.
Babylon Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 I roundly praised Pearson for adding Waghorn and DJ to our strikeforce at Coventry, so saving the game, and offered stacks of praise for our first half efforts at Watford - and our equaliser. He did as well... I know because I was in hospital for a week as I fainted and banged my head when reading it.

I've had a go at what he's got out of them. And all those players are "seemingly better" because I cdertainly wouldn't praise the previous lot as being as highly rated as "ordinary". Times I've acknowledged our management's eye for players. But signing people is only one part of the process. Making them play well in a balanced, productive unit is quite something else.

If he comes back a better player, good. Not forgetting his home debut against MK. He was class then.
Mee Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 To be honest, he wasn't even making it onto the bench! A few games at Leeds, get some experience under his belt. When he comes back to City, he will be raring to go! Come on City!
Koke Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 If he performs for Leeds, he will not want to come back to us. They are a bigger club than us and the best side in that division. I just got a feeling that he will love it there and the Leeds fans will take to him , cant see him coming back. Hope im wrong Agree with that. If he start performing and Leeds fans warm to him, I can see him not wanting to come back.
