josh_baskin Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 Robbie Savage is just an immature, narrow minded buffoon. Fact. If you have listened to any of his comments on late kick off he has refrained at any opertunity to say a positive thing about City.
hairy Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 Even in the '90s when Savage played for us, I never rated him then. He was OK, but he was easily the weakest link in our midfield. Zagorakis seemed a better player to me in most areas and he usually made the bench. I am sure I remember an interview with Savage when he described MO as having said to all the players to shoot apart from him as he had skill and that he was just to interfer in play as he always did.
marbelladave Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 Compared to the likes of Gibson, Izzet, Weller, Lennon he doesn't even warrant the title 'great' he was a marauding workhorse, a hod carrier for the bricklayers, a tracer to the draughtsman, a quarryman to the sculptor. I'd place him along side the likes of Taitto or Freund. As for his publicity seeking antics I take them with pinch of salt, he knows he can't get the attention through his football skills so has to resort to being a complete arsehole which of course is the mainstay of the present day media. He was part of our best midfield in modern times, that is indisputable, Davie Gibson was my hero but I was still at school at the time, that's how long ago that was. He is only a 'complete arsehole' if you take him seriously, I think he is a hoot and invariably good value, if often unintentionally. Generally speaking I don't hate any players or managers, though clearly I make an exception for that thug Morgan. I like to enjoy my football and get as worked up as anyone during the course of a game, but for me that is just part of the fun and I rarely hold grudges.
martyn Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 As much of a twat as he is, Savage was a decent player for us in one of our best sides in recent memory. He revels in winding people up and has clearly suceeded here yet again.
ousefox Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 According to his twitter he might phone in on the football forum tonight.
Webbo Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 I think Robbie has quickly forgotten that when he visited Leicester for the first time after signing for Birmingham he kissed the Birmingham badge in front of the Leicester fans, THAT is why we don't like him. Dead right.

Doesn't make him great though and he's deluded if he thinks he's a great footballer. As for his antics as I said I take them with a pinch of salt and am often bemused by how sensitive fans are but that doesn't stop me thinking he's an attention seeking buffoon who doesn't make me laugh.
Fosse Fox Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11712_6060893,00.html Derby midfielder Robbie Savage has taken a swipe at those Leicester fans who booed him on Saturday. The 35-year-old enjoyed five productive years with the Foxes between 1997 and 2002, but his success during that spell appears to have been quickly forgotten. Savage was part of a squad which appeared in two League Cup finals and cemented itself as a Premier League force to be reckoned with. He believes he deserves greater respect for the role he played during a memorable era for the club and has blasted those supporters who feel the need to jeer him. Savage said: "It's disappointing, but I don't really care. It just proves that some fans can be fickle. "I was one of their all-time best players and played in one of their best midfields ever. "Me, Muzzy (Izzet) and Neil Lennon were the best midfield the club has ever had. "When I went back to the Walkers Stadium, I got booed there as well. "All credit to the Derby fans who gave Steve Howard and Matt Oakley such a great reception. "They deserved it because they were great stalwarts for this club. "It just proves the difference between the two sets of fans." Seems that winning the Youth Cup with 'Newton Heath' has gone to Mr Savage's head.. Or is Jobbie's inflated view of his own modest abilities simply a coping mechanism ('Bung Meister' Ferguson obviously didn't think he could cut it with the grown ups when he reluctantly accepted Dario Gradi's world record bid for a Wrexham teenager with a heavy metal hairdo)? Whatever the pop psychology, 'Bathroom Boy' clearly has form when it comes to delusions of grandeur: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/2387890/Savage-sparks-Souness-squabble.html
Daggers Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 ...being a c**t is not being a character. I've been oh so wrong all these years? Bollocks.
marbelladave Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 Doesn't make him great though and he's deluded if he thinks he's a great footballer. As for his antics as I said I take them with a pinch of salt and am often bemused by how sensitive fans are but that doesn't stop me thinking he's an attention seeking buffoon who doesn't make me laugh. He is certainly not a great footballer, barely a good one though with Izzet and Lennon they did form a formidable unit. As I said above I think he is a hoot, all depends on your taste, or in my case, lack of it... lol
Bryn Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 Christ, for a professional footballer this guy seems to have an awfully boring life. Without trying to I'm coming across media stories revolving round him left right and centre, usually of his own making.
Bert Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 I like Savage because he winds people up. People don't realise that he actually loves getting all the hate, he openly admits that he likes it and it spurs him on. Deep down this club will always mean the most to him as he had his most successful years here. Him getting booed hurts him a lot and he masks it by winding people up. The reason he first got booed was because he said he was going to stay, and he jumped ship. Then on his first return here, he kissed another teams badge, so that's why he gets even more booed. If he wasn't so stupid and left with dignity like Lennon and Izzet, maybe he might have got a better reception from us. To say he was an all time great is a bit OTT though, he was made to look better than he was by the two actual quality midfielders he had either side of him. One thing you can never take away from Savage is that he always gave everything for our club and whilst he was here he had a great bond with the fans. It's a shame money got the better of him because I would've liked him to stay but that's football.
stez Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 of course, his official reason for going was because of his international career....and we all know (finners excluded) that wales only pick players from the premier league
Webbo Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 I know for a fact that he didn't want to go and the club forced him out for financial reasons. That doesn't excuse his badge kissing incident though.
haraven Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 In my opinion Savage did play in one of the best midfields we have ever sported - and he was a great player for us the years he was here. Lots of teams feared our midfield, and they all hated Savage because of all the trouble he caused, which was trouble that gained Leicester points. Robbie Savage was said to_ surprisingly_ be one of the nicest blokes towards Norwegian Leicester fans coming over to hand him a viking ship for being voted best player of the year.. I think words like champagne and partying was mentioned as the tale goes. That was the defence speech. However, after kissing the Brum badge in front of our fans, he asked for booing. It never ceases to amaze me how short some people are - if he just had gone on with his game without rubbing it in our face, he would still have a good standing among many fans in this club. However, like now, he is just looked upon as a clown with 80's hair and some wicked teeth.
flanimal Posted 29 March 2010 Posted 29 March 2010 Robbie Savage wanted to come and play for Leicester a season back. Grovelled to Dickov to make the staff get him a deal - but they didn't want him. Probably just jealous. Any club that has Robbie Savage as their captain has issues.
Sampson Posted 30 March 2010 Posted 30 March 2010 Compared to the likes of Gibson, Izzet, Weller, Lennon he doesn't even warrant the title 'great' he was a marauding workhorse, a hod carrier for the bricklayers, a tracer to the draughtsman, a quarryman to the sculptor. As an aside, the thought of Davie Gibson being alongside that Izzet and Lennon in a midfield three would've been incredible. Obviously Gibson was probably in his 60's when Izzet and Lennon were playing, but nonetheless it's an exciting thought. Weller and Glover on the wings alongside them too...
bluebeau Posted 30 March 2010 Posted 30 March 2010 All time best players?!! Haha he really does have a massive ego. I think Robbie has quickly forgotten that when he visited Leicester for the first time after signing for Birmingham he kissed the Birmingham badge in front of the Leicester fans, THAT is why we don't like him. That's true, but if you cast your mind back, he deliberately got Matty Elliot sent off. He pressured the ref into showing the red card against his former team mate. Matty was never a dirty player, unlike Savage! Savage is a guy with a huge ego, but a very small brain. He was adored by the City fans, but he only has himself to blame for the way we have turned against him.
Fox92 Posted 30 March 2010 Posted 30 March 2010 I like Savage, and he does play on the booing that he gets from many fans, like other players, and again, some Leicester fans booed him which could have made him play better, I don't know. Although he lacks ability, he shows passion, which some of our current players lack. So what if he did whatever he did, thats the emotions of football. I remember when I was getting on at Adebayor because of what he did in front of the Arsenal fans, but someone said that 'the emotions of football get the best of a player, he probably didn't mean it' (or something along that lines), so whats the difference? I clap Savage and I continue to because he played in one of the greatest Leicester City sides that most of us may ever see. Most of you can say he used to run around like a headless chicken, like Tiatto, but thats what Martin told him to do.

He meant it, his twitter bleatings that night backed that up AND its not the first time. Adebayors celebration was during the immediate seconds after scoring a goal - Savages was a deliberate act to wind up the fans AFTER the game had finished (he was laughing at them as he walked past) it doesnt compare at all. Like others have mentioned - people should learn to ignore the twat.
Corky Posted 30 March 2010 Posted 30 March 2010 I like Savage, and he does play on the booing that he gets from many fans, like other players, and again, some Leicester fans booed him which could have made him play better, I don't know. Where has his passion got his team this season compared to the lack of passion our players show? And who lacks passion in the team?
flanimal Posted 30 March 2010 Posted 30 March 2010 Where has his passion got his team this season compared to the lack of passion our players lack? And who lacks passion in the team? How does constantly moaning to the ref and complaining be called passion? Maybe ten years back Savage was competitive, but now, he seems more like a shitty player collecting a paycheck from a Derby team that should know much better.
Fox92 Posted 30 March 2010 Posted 30 March 2010 Like others have mentioned - people should learn to ignore the twat. So why do people continue to boo him then? Thats not ignoring him, it's provocking something - like when he walked past the Leicester fans on Saturday. Where has his passion got his team this season compared to the lack of passion our players show? And who lacks passion in the team? One man doesn't make a team. A few players lack passion; Oakley for an example. Its good that characters like Savage and N. Warnock are in the game.
