Went with this one after a lot of deliberation. I was going to wait until the weekend to crack it open but given what's going on with the club today I had to get started on it tonight 😂

Great choice.

We liked glengoyne 18 the best. Tomatin is an amazing colour though.

Normally like the more spend stuff but got to say the Glen Marnoch Islay from Aldi is unbelievable value for money.

If you like smokey, peaty but fairly sweet then give it a go

Was wondering how many people have done distillery tours and which you thought was best? Was on holiday in Fort William last month so visited the Ben Nevis distillery, which is my 6th. I always find the videos they play at the start hugely funny, but for the wrong reasons... usually very cliché and lovingly sentimental with lots of bagpipes (the Scottish ones at least, as you'll see, I've visited two outside of Scotland).

These are the ones I've done...

Glen Ord

Tomatin

Highland Park

Ben Nevis

Jameson's

Penderyn

Jameson's was probably the most enjoyable tour, but they all had highlights of their own (usually the tasting).

Got to add Dalwhinnie to that list now.

What are everyone's favourite boozers for whisky selection?

Not been up to Scotland much, but really love The Pot Still in Glasgow. The Bon Accord also worth a visit.

You realise you have to cut off your little finger first?

I haven't drank for over 7 years but it's been a stressful week and between my Dad and I we've polished off his bottle of Glenmorangie 12 (beautiful stuff)

I've ordered another bottle with our Tesco food order to be delivered this evening to replace it for him, but they're out of stock and have substituted it with a Glenfiddich 15

He's more of a connoisseur than me so the question is, do I accept the replacement Glenfiddich in the hope it's equally as good and we enjoy it as much as the Glenmorangie, or refuse it and replace like for like from somewhere else?

Any expert opinions welcome

Gentleman Jack is currently £20 for 70cl bottle at Tesco (with clubcard). Naturally got some.

Also got a bottle of Sexton Irish Whiskey, cos it came with a nice glass (I'm a sucker for a nice glass lol - don't think I've got a single whisky glass that isn't either a freebie or from a distillery visit.) I'll let you know what it's like later.

Certainly no "expert" but I think Glenfiddich 15 is matured in quite a unique style, with three types of casks all vatted together (custom 'solera' vat), resulting in quite a complex tasting whiskey with a fascinating nose. The Glenmorangie 12 is initially aged in bourbon barrels before being moved to cask. It has a very distinctive and accessible Highland peated flavour which you can't really go wrong with, which is why it's their flagship scotch and has won so many awards. Also, you must mean the Lasanta, but even that can be obtained for a much cheaper price than the Glenmorangie 15. There's no absolute right or wrong answer to this, it's a question of taste. There are no rules about what you're supposed to enjoy. I am very partial to good Speyside scotches and the Glenfiddich 15 is no exception. Very rich, fruity and a nice finish. I think I'm going to buy one now. Do you want to flog it Iz?

Thanks man.

I ended up accepting the substitution of Glenfiddich 15 in the hope it's as good if not better than the out of stock Glenmorangie 12. The Glenfiddich is a bit more expensive but sometimes supermarkets have to give you the next best thing as a substitute i think. Quite looking forward to cracking it open tonight with the old man to taste the difference.

He 'made me' compare a cheaper mixer/blended whiskey with the Glenmorangie last week for a laugh and the difference was night and day. The cheap stuff tasted disgusting in comparison which I guess is why people mix it with ginger ale/coke etc. instead of drinking it neat.

I'm sure the Glenfiddich will be great and although I don't particularly want to start drinking regularly again, the odd 'night cap' of Glenmorangie last week really helped.

Can maybe see myself getting into nice whiskey's at some stage. The history and process of it all is fascinating.

Very, very nice.

Found the Glenfiddich slightly harsher than the Glenmorangie but it left a longer/warmer afterglow.

Very little in it but I'd maybe favour the Glenmorangie I think. Just a bit more mellow and easy to drink for me.

Now I fancy getting some sort of taster set with a dozen or so malts for Christmas to compare them all!
