El Furio Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Gotta agree here... That is exactly right. In the past 10 years we may be a more successful club, but we dont want to be a club that always refers to our past glory rather than our (hopefully) bright future. It annoys me on the phone in when people constantly refer to Martin O'Neill, Steve Walsh, Neil Lennon etc. As fans we have to accept that the team under O'Neill was a one off. Something special that rarely happens in football where a squad comes together that is so United, the lack of quality within it becomes an irrelevance. At the minute the team we have is good but not great. To be serious about contending for an automatic spot and looking further forward, staying in the Premiership, we need to be looking at at least 5 more quality players. In my opinion the only players we have that could stand a chance of success at a higher level are: - Weale Hobbs Morrisson Tunchev Wellens Fryatt Waghorn I've not seen anything from any of the other players in the squad to suggest that they could cope with a higher standard of football or even a higher standard of play in the Championship.
Head Honcho Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Hell - he's been charged in New Jersey too?

I'd say you could probably cut that down to a couple - Weale & Tunchev (only if he can back to full fitness). Perhaps Fryatt might make the grade but the rest are not anywhere near Premiership footballers yet imo. Waghorn isn't even ours. Wellens would be made a mug of in the Premiership.

I think Wellens would be ok but only if he had the right midfield partner. At the minute, he's playing in a completely disjointed midfield. King dissapears, and Oakley is getting progressively worse which in turn is affecting Wellens' game.

Personally I think King is by far and away the shining light in our midfield after an iffy start to the season.
consty Posted 14 January 2010 Posted 14 January 2010 Hell - he's been charged in New Jersey too? No, he won't be in a new jersey, he will be stripped pyjamas

He is either getting worse game by game or, maybe he is just going through a bad time. If I was the manager last Saturday he would have been off before half time. Credit to Nigel he waited to see if there might be any improvement in his game after half time, saw there wasn't, then took him off. Our central midfield then looked much better without him. Central midfield is definitely our problem area, solve that and we can look forward to a very good remainder of the season.
Flynny Posted 14 January 2010 Posted 14 January 2010 Maybe we have to play King-Oakley in largely defensive roles if we want two attacking wingers?
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 19 January 2010 Posted 19 January 2010 I think we shouldnt even consider selling Fryatt unless Nigel Pearson has a replacement in mind and the club recieve at least 5 Million (remember Ade Akinbiyi?)
Joepeace09 Posted 26 January 2010 Posted 26 January 2010 sounds like wigan are no longer intrested, there signing Reuben from Villareal for 7 million must have moved on.
Callabinho Posted 27 January 2010 Posted 27 January 2010 Heard from a reliable source that Fryatts illness was in-fact negotiations with Wigan, app he is set for a £4 million pound move and Newcastle could well be his last game.
Head Honcho Posted 27 January 2010 Posted 27 January 2010 This reminds me of the time we sold Connolly to Wigan at the death in 2004 and I can't for the life remember who or even if we signed anyone!!! Can anyone remember who we signed?

Head Honcho Posted 27 January 2010 Posted 27 January 2010 I can't tell whether you're joking or not? But Hume. No seriously I wasn't. I totally forgot Let's hope we have a more prolific striker this time.
Ozwin Posted 27 January 2010 Posted 27 January 2010 We're leaving it a bit late if we are selling him. Get it done at the start of Jan and it gives us all month to get a replacement, I don't like this at all.
Kilworthfox Posted 27 January 2010 Posted 27 January 2010 Heard from a reliable source that Fryatts illness was in-fact negotiations with Wigan, app he is set for a £4 million pound move and Newcastle could well be his last game. Good amount, however would be the death of our season to sell our most prolific striker at the end of the transfer window.

Says on sky sports they have sealed a deal with marco reuben (think thats how its spelt) Hope its not true wouldnt want to see fryatt go to be honest
Dan Posted 27 January 2010 Posted 27 January 2010 I honestly think that if we sold him then we'd rely on someone else to step up to the plate, like Gallagher. I think that Gallagher, with a good run in the team and a bit of £££ spent on the midfield to be stronger and more creative, he could quite easily exceed the number of goals Fryatt has, and Howard could have more also. Anyway, Fryatt was on the bench last night, so your theory is impossible.
Leicfox Posted 27 January 2010 Posted 27 January 2010 Wouldn't suprise me to see him go. Pearson might see about £1mill of the 4, and will probably panic buy an old codger for way over the odds that Milan has recommended. It's the Leicester way.
hackneyfox Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Someone on Bentleys had heard that both Fulham & Wolves were willing to pay 3.5m for him.
teblin Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 I can't tell whether you're joking or not? But Hume. You are forgetting Elvis! We signed him permanently with the money too!
CosbehFox Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Heard from a reliable source that Fryatts illness was in-fact negotiations with Wigan, app he is set for a £4 million pound move and Newcastle could well be his last game. Interesting cos they reckoned McDonald was too much on £4million....and there are in the process of signing a striker from Villarreall in the £6-7 million bracket.
Bausor Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Sell him bring in hulse on a deal cash and campbell going there way
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Sell him bring in hulse on a deal cash and campbell going there way Good call, I think Hulse would be a class player.
