Super_horns Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 So we're against Wales...might be fun. Not a bad group for us and not too much travelling. Very tough for the other home nations.
MC Prussian Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Group A: Germany, Turkey, Austria, Belgium, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan Group B: Russia, Slovakia, REPUBLIC OF IRELAND, Macedonia, Armenia, Andorra Group C: Italy, Serbia, NORTHERN IRELAND, Slovenia, Estonia, Faroe Islands Group D: France, Romania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Belarus, Albania, Luxembourg Group E: Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Hungary, Moldova, San Marino Group F: Croatia, Greece, Israel, Latvia, Georgia, Malta Group G: ENGLAND, Switzerland, Bulgaria, WALES, Montenegro Group H: Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Cyprus, Iceland Group I: Spain, Czech Republic, SCOTLAND, Lithuania, Liechtenstein
dandannieldanok Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Ex-Switzerland manager Roy Hodgson: "I know they qualified for the World Cup, but they didn't have a very hard group. I think England's main concerns will be about the derbies with Wales." What a fool if he thinks Wales will provide the sternest test in that group. Switzerland will be our toughest opponents, Bulgaria not far behind them and Roy has obviously forgotten that Montenegro beat Wales not long ago. Wales shouldn't be written off completely but they won't be England's main concern.
MikeyT Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Haha Wales and possible meeting with Tunchev! And maybe Andy King as well! Oh and Berner if he makes it into the Swiss squad!
Samilktray Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Easy enough group. Wales will be the toughest team in the group I reckon.
MC Prussian Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Easy enough group.Wales will be the toughest team in the group I reckon. I suggest you start looking outside the British window, then.
Brainy Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 he was just trying to be funny. i like this group though, pretty decent sides there and no minnows.
lildave3 Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 I've always thought we had pretty easy groups? You think we've got a hard world cup draw?Anyway, I will yet again predict we'll get the group of death, and then hopefully we'll get a good draw again. Was that some lame attempt at a joke?
MC Prussian Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 he was just trying to be funny.i like this group though, pretty decent sides there and no minnows. I know, I know. Anyway, it's a really, really fascinating and somewhat balanced group. Although I see England as clear favourites, none of the other teams is to be considered weak. Wales with some good youngsters on the rise, same goes for Montenegro (the mysterious big unknown). Bulgaria, though, I don't see finishing high up there. Especially without the Tunch, doesn't look like he'll ever play again. With only five teams in the group, it will make it even harder to get to Poland/Ukraine in 2010, with most teams being able to take away points from the other.
Finnegan Posted 7 February 2010 Author Posted 7 February 2010 Eh, sort of happy with that, sort of disappointed. I'd have liked Spain or someone quite glamorous as our first seed because we're never going to win the group and it'd be nice to get the opportunity to see them play live. If they leave the England game in Cardiff's ground it'll sell out and be a fooking brilliant atmosphere but I bet they move it back to the Millenium, get about 36'000 in and it'll be a flop. Although I think they're dropping the prices for this campaign. Can come second in that group, though, I reckon, if we perform consistently well. Despite defeats we were excellent against Germany and Russia, really stood up and ran them both close - problem is we tend to nod off against teams we can beat like Finland and can see us doing the same with the Swiss. A bit of killer instinct and we could go far. Ramsey's time to shine. I've always thought we had pretty easy groups? You think we've got a hard world cup draw?Anyway, I will yet again predict we'll get the group of death, and then hopefully we'll get a good draw again. How long have you been posting here? I'm not for one moment suggesting everyone should pay attention to me and know everything about me. But c'mon.

Uncle Albert Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Poor old Wales, they will be made to look very poor against us at Wembley, they might restrict us to one goal at the Millennium.
Finnegan Posted 7 February 2010 Author Posted 7 February 2010 That'll happen. Yeah I know, gutting really. But money talks I suppose. Poor old Wales, they will be made to look very poor against us at Wembley, they might restrict us to one goal at the Millennium. Bring on Wales. 6 Points in their cup final oh no, how will we cope?
The Doctor Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Group I: Spain, Czech Republic, SCOTLAND, Lithuania, Liechtenstein nice. lithuania and Liechtenstein are poor and the czech republic are a shadow of the force they were. I'm only fearing spain there, 2nd place and qualification for the first major tournament in many a year.
Lillehamring Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Group H: Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Cyprus, Iceland can't see england having too much trouble, so i may as well focus on this... couple of derbies, and some potential sunshine away days - just need to get a job to pay for it
Trav Le Bleu Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Eh, sort of happy with that, sort of disappointed. I'd have liked Spain or someone quite glamorous as our first seed because we're never going to win the group and it'd be nice to get the opportunity to see them play live. What do you think England are? Could see NI sneaking through in 2nd. (I'm guessing it's top 2 from groups of 6 and best runner-up from the groups of 5?)
Jonezy Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Group H: Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Cyprus, Icelandcan't see england having too much trouble, so i may as well focus on this... couple of derbies, and some potential sunshine away days - just need to get a job to pay for it Good little group there. No long trips into the eastern parts of the continent. Portugal favorites of course, but we (Denmark) had the better of them in the WC qualifier although we had some serious rub of the green. Like the Nordic touch, should make our stadiums full. Also Cyprus can be a pain in Cyprus, didn't they whack Ireland a few years ago?
lildave3 Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 England's group isn't an easy one at all, but should go through as winners. Group A: Germany, Turkey, Austria, Belgium, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan Turkey have got to be looking at 2nd place at least in this group. In fact it'd be a disaster if they didn't imo.
CosbehFox Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 nice. lithuania and Liechtenstein are poor and the czech republic are a shadow of the force they were. I'm only fearing spain there, 2nd place and qualification for the first major tournament in many a year. Beat you away last time out though didn't they? I'd love the opportunity to do England's away games. Cracking group in that respect. One benefit for England is whilst it's a tricky group, you can see the likes of Bulgaria, Swiss, Montenegro and Wales beating each other.
CosbehFox Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 That'll happen. Didn't they sell out the Milli Stad for the recent WC qualifier?
dandannieldanok Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 I'd love us to go through with Montenegro. Great country outside of football and an exciting young team on the pitch.
Finnegan Posted 7 February 2010 Author Posted 7 February 2010 Didn't they sell out the Milli Stad for the recent WC qualifier? It wasn't quite sold out but it was pretty full, yeah, I was there. But that's when we were getting 60 odd thousand to every game. Really don't get the Montenegro love though, to be honest. They've a few good choice individuals but they've hardly dazzled over the last eighteen months.
Sparky Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Not a easy group but a interesting one against some decent teams....and Wales
