Just got this from the BBC's World Cup Page:

"The 28-year-old can play anywhere across the backline and is equally effective in a holding midfield role. A mainstay of the team under previous coach Ivica Osim, he is not guaranteed a starting berth under current boss Takeshi Okada.

He made his Japan debut in 2005 but was overlooked for the 2006 World Cup. An Asian Champions League winner in 2007, he has been named in the J-League Best XI three times (2005-07).

Abe made his debut for JEF United in 1998 at the age of 16 and was then the J-League’s youngest ever player.

After nine seasons at United and two J-League Cup titles, he was signed by Urawa Reds in 2007 for about £2.6m, at the time the highest transfer fee ever paid for a Japanese player in a domestic deal. A model of consistency, he has missed only four league games in the last five-and-a-half seasons."

...and theres my first post.

Sky Sports News

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_6334764,00.html

Leicester are set to tie up a deal for Japan international Yuki Abe from Urawa Reds.

The midfielder has agreed terms and is expected join the Championship club subject to a medical, officials from the J.League club have confirmed.

The 28-year-old, who played for Japan at the World Cup finals in South Africa, has 49 caps for the national side, scoring three goals.

His transfer could hit complications however, as the defensive stalwart has not made the required number of international appearances to be granted a work permit.

Abe departed for England to finalise negotiations and undergo a medical with the Foxes at the Walkers stadium.

However, Urawa Reds general manager Koichi Hashiratani feels that as Abe was an ever-present for Japan at the World Cup, he should be granted a special exception to sign for the East Midlands outfit.

"Having played in all four World Cup matches I think he will clear that hurdle," said Hashiratani on Kyodo News.

Abe helped Urawa to win the AFC Champions League back in 2007 and participated in the FIFA Club World Cup the same year.

I know I'm probably just stating the obvious here, but surely we wouldn't be attempting to sign him and he certainly wouldn't have flown over from Japan for a medical, if we didn't have some kind of solid indication that his visa/work permit was going to go through ok??

I don't remember this individual but Japan had a good WC. I'm bit worried about the reports of him not speaking English and getting homesick easily though.

I'll take him to Lttle Tokyo for some delicious edamame beans. He can drink Asahi and chat to the camp waiter.

He'll be fine

edit: punctuation nightmare
