If we can in anyway sign him permanently in jan we should. As said in another thread its rare that players of his ability become available. Our geographical position to brum might help us- depends how settled he is in the midlands. Not sure how many other midlands teams can afford 5m ish in the january transfer window...

I am grasping at straws,here.... I have him married with his kids settled in school in my mind. :D

If we can get him then we definitely should. As just about everybody else has said, he is a cut above at this level.

Not too sure what was said counts as a rant though. Sounds more like he was basically just saying what happened. Almost as if to say "I'm a quality player who was unlucky at Villa, out of the first team through basically no fault of my own and now I'm at Leicester City demonstrating my ability but I know I'm too good to be here".

I hope people are right to be encouraged by his 'outburst' but reading between the lines im not convinced that we should be interpreting his comments positively.

Father-in-law is a baggie n said that his arrogance is too much. He wont stay longer than what we've already signed cos he thinks he's too good for the league. He just needs us for some match fitness then he'll go n have another crack at villa. Guarentee it

By all accounts he was an arrogant twat when at WBA.

However a couple of years rotting in reserve football at Villa has probably made him grow up a bit. In the interviews i've heard him in so far he sounds like he's got his head screwed on. As a young man having a price tag like that on your head probably did go to his head but lets give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

If we were to sign him permanantly it would be a major coup for the club. Players of this calibre do not come cheap and certainly choose the club they play for carefully.

He and Hobbs could be a dominant partnership for the next 5 years!!

Fingers crossed!

MON does have a habit of taking against players if he feels they have slighted him. You know like he did with Graham Fenton. I mean if you can't put a little thinks like a drink thrown in your face behind you...

There would be at least 10 Prem teams who would want him. There is no chance he would come to us permanently. His wage request I would think would be 35-40k a week (which he is probably on already). There is no way we would be paying that out in this division.

Think some may need a reality check.

Yes, a defender 3rd or 4th in the pecking order would be on wages of 35-40k a week.

Makes sense.

Best we can hope for is a loan until the end of the season. He clearly wants and should be in the Prem and I think he would only consider us if we got promoted this season which is unlikely but not impossible. Only been 2 games don't forget but he has be awesome so far alongside Hobbs, with Vitor and Tunch to come back hopefully and Morrisson learning from his mistakes, we have a great selection of CB's.

He wasn't signed as a 3rd or 4th choice though was he.

Villa's wage bill is huge, last season they paid £70m (£63m to players) in wages (Spurs paid just £60m). Sidwell is on approaching 50k, Reo Coker 40k Luke Young turned Liverpool down as he didn't want to take a wage cut. Davies will be on something like the figures quoted on here.

Aye fingers crossed we can keep him till Jan at least. Problem is, the better he does here the more interest they'll be in January. Catch 22 really. I'd love him and Naughton going on Saturdays/tonights performance...not likely though.

He'll never stay .. 28 days loan like originally proposed then we'll be looking for a youngster of similar build and strength to replace him .. probably on loan.

End of season loan would be incredible, with him we should make po's minimum....I'd personally sign a cheque for £5m right now and see how villa really rate him.

You're always going to pay over the odds for young english players, but that doesn't neccessarily mean you're going to pay them a huge way - hardly the stupidest thing I've ever read being that the average premier league wage is £13k a week

That stat would be the total wage bill over total registered players on the books.. Ie including kids on 500 a week who outnumber first team players several times over.

It's the average wage of Premier League players over 20 years old

EDIT - From 2006
