ozleicester Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Tough world this... Gally is a quality player, looks confident on the ball, is the player who delivers the defence splitting pass or run and has provided significant cover for poor defending by others. This of course means he runs the risk of... being caught out on the ball, or mistiming his passes and beijng caught out of position.. especially if he is injured or just out of form. But... IMO he is one of the most technically gifted and skilled players we have...and lets be honest are there better players in our squad As with Sousa, too many people arent prepared to stand by a player or manager when things arent going perfectly. Foxes never quit... play up Gally.
Adster Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Are you Paul Gallagher in disguise? YES! Naa seriously, gally happens to be one of my favorite players on the team, ever sinxlce he joins. Hes even on the back of my shirt
J.Lisemore Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 He was awful on Tuesday, gave the ball away almost every time he got it. Needs to up his game big time.
Bugg Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Every player goes through bad form. Harsh to criticise the lad because his last two games were poor.
nickelbyfox Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Read an article about him the other day which really summed him up. Seems to be technically gifted and have all the necessary traits to succeed, but subsequently is average at the best of times.
lildave3 Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Bet that will please a lot of people Pleases me.
5waller5 Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 He reminds me of Scowcroft so much .... He's technically a very good player; a very decent passer of the ball with a great touch and he finds space well... The MASSIVE but is that he lacks pace and is a confidence player. Just like Scowy, because he isn't deadly enough to be an out and out striker he gets played all over the attacking third, especially behind the front two (where i think he's strongest) and on either wing as well as up front. That can't be good for the confidence of a lad that thinks he's a striker. I hope he finds form because i like him - but i liked Scowy, and in the end was quite glad when we finally sold him.
Thracian Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 He's got no pace, can't tackle, rubbish in the air, inconsistent, cant seem to do anything in a simple way and despite proclaiming that his best position is as a striker, every time he's played there he looks like he's playing out of position and never looks like scoring. Yes he has some skill but he is just a complete luxury player. He would excell in games where we're 3 or 4 nil up and cruising so he can do some party tricks but aside from that he has no value. Wouldn't mind if he were to leave. In a nutshell. His record paid testimony to that as has probably 85% of his performances in a City shirt, at least when I've watched.
Koke Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 He's a good squad player. Nothing more than that though.Thing is nobody still knows what his real position is. He's OK everywhere, but not exceptional anywhere. Those type of players are annoying. He's not quick enough to be a winger. He's not good enough to lead the line as a lone striker. He's not strong and disciplined enough to be a midfielder. He's a useful squad player, but that's all.
carterfox90 Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 had quite a few games to show us how good he thinks he is but has strugeled to show us apart from his hatrick game think he will be one to go in jan

Unit Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 I still think he's worth the wait. Aginst Hull he was annoying, he tried too much to get a goal, shooting from anywhere... but during Sousa's time we'd have killed for that! He's obviously got a shot on him and he knows that, so be patient.
Lichfieldfox. Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 Diasgree with title of thread and the awfully negative comments based on a short run of poor form. Skillful player, many positive attributes. Poor form so far this season under 2 new managers who have yet to get best out of him. Clearly carrying an injury. Yes he is luxuary and not a striker. It does concern me that our 2 'strikers' took all the deadball kicks in Hull game. He needs time to recover, regain form and fitness. I'd rather see others go before Gally as I think he has something to offer as a squad player still.
Dan Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 Not good enough, whips out the magic very occasionally but doesn't offer enough for me, squad player at best.
marbelladave Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 Not good enough, whips out the magic very occasionally but doesn't offer enough for me, squad player at best. Given his form to date that is actually quite fair... Worth remembering is that when he played under NFP he was primarily used as a winger, which he quite obviuosly is not. He always plays his best when allowed a free role inside but that has happened very rarely. Some people (including me) would like to see him play the attacking mid position with two holding players behind him, in the 4-5-1 that we played the other night that is entirely possible but at present that more forward role is going to Andy King. Given his finishing ability, getting King further forward is understandable, but as I have pointed out elsewhere, the further forward he plays the easier he is for the defenders to pick up and good though he is he is not a creative player in the way that Gallagher can be. Despite good performances from Oakley and Wellens I would drop one of them to the bench, drop King back and bring in (a fit and in form) Gallager to play ahead of them. King will still get into the box and get his goals wheras Gallagher does most of his best work around the edges of the box, could be a really nice balance,

The difficulty is the fact that he then becomes backup to King as it is highly unlikely that any of Wellens, Oakley or King are going to be dropped. Maybe when we have a number of games during a week and Sven wishes to rest Oakley or Wellens. But I cant see this becoming the preferred line up in midfield.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 He'll probably go and score a long range effort in the next few games, then live off it for months and people will start saying how good he is. Just like when he scored the hat trick against Scunny.

I accept that dropping any of Wellens, Oakley or King would be difficult given their recent form but to my mind it all boils down to King. I have said this elsewhere but King does all his best work in the penalty box, ours as well as their's. Deploying him well forward we lose his contributions in our box and his last ditch tackles and goal line clearances have been crucial at times. In addition, the further forward he plays the easier he is to mark, all in all I like to see him do his regular box to box 'thing' and that means playing instead of either Oakley or Wellens. He'll probably go and score a long range effort in the next few games, then live off it for months and people will start saying how good he is. Just like when he scored the hat trick against Scunny. His inconsistency is clearly an issue, won't argue with that, but I would like to see him given a chance in that role when he is properly fit. Did not see him at Leeds but against Hull he tried hard but looked slow and somewhat overweight, disappointing.
hackneyfox Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 Scowcroft/Hume/Gallagher Can anyone spot the difference, as I'm not sure if there is one.
The Doctor Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 Scowcroft/Hume/Gallagher Can anyone spot the difference, as I'm not sure if there is one. scowcroft played in the premiership with us
Samilktray Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 Scowcroft had a mole. Nice relevant post Tilley.
marbelladave Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 Scowcroft had a mole. Where? Somewhere interesting i hope! And please don't disappoint, none of this 'in his back garden nonsense'...
