Bank Holiday rail travel in the UK, especially on East Midlands Rail. Been reading about it in general terms, but thinking about it as a possibility of getting to a match this spring. We'd plan and book the trip well before the engineering works are announced.

In general, what's the worst case scenario you've seen with EMR? Bus replacement service, reduced schedules? Sadly, not not first dealings with EMR cancellations.

You should be able to buy a cheaper (Saver) ticket 1-2 months before your date of travel. Any engineering work should have been announced before that. Anyway, it usually only affects late night and early morning trains

Best tips to unblock a toilet without a plunger?

Our first house, totally clueless on such matters, so asked my dad.

Get me a rag he said.

He wrapped it around his hand and plunged it into the bowl.

A couple of plunges and away it all went.

For subsequent blockages though, I tied a rag around a piece of wood and used that as a plunger. Threw it away afterwards.

Presumably you've tried the old fashioned way?

Coat hanger down there - removed some of the damage - I’m moments away from going to get a plunger tbh.

trying fairly liquid and hot water at the min

Windsor Tiffin in burbage can have the bill if I need a call out

Another method that has worked for me, is wait until the water has seeped away to a reasonable level, then tip a bucket of water down there. The rapid and quick pressure may just shift it.

It actually the throne that's blocked? Mine got clogged recently and I absolutely leathered it with the plunger and ended up pushing all the chocolate up out the garden drain. Had to lift a few drain covers to find the actual block and was able to shift it there.

I could get a man in to look at it but too stubborn and tight so I’m up to my arms in it currently, I’m about as practical as Louie Spence so it’s not going well so far.

I think it’s the toilet paper that’s done it

If it is you should be able to get that yourself, just hope you've got some gloves on lol

Let the water level reside. Then a load of vinegar and salt and leave for 5mins. Pour boiling water into the toilet whilst flushing the chain. Always worked for me

Salt not baking powder? I’ve only got pink Himalayan

So how did it go in the end? Quite literally?

Managed to get a plunger off a family friend about 9pm, did the trick in about 10 seconds. Now keeping a spare plunger in the garage, I’d advise everyone else to aswell lol

Victims won't deny an event.

Perpetrators will.
