You think ancient humans sat around for a day doing nothing? They had lots of stuff to do like finding food, making/maintaining tools and staying alive in general to worry about. It was a 24/7 job.

Yes.

But they were doing for themselves.

Hi…. Like a complete klutz I managed to break this door catch on my in laws caravan in Norfolk…

I tried some super glue but it didn’t bind quick enough…. I have obvious thoughts on how to keep it in place whilst the glue sets…. I couldn’t find an equivalent shape or size online either

suggestions please !

this shows where I broke it below

If you smash the entire caravan to bits with a sledgehammer they won't notice the catch. I guarantee it.

And the reason they don't chill is shops being open on Sundays.

But consumerism must keep constantly turning, to fuel the insatiable appetites of billionaires and to hell with the obvious advantages of giving the masses a day of complete universal rest, a concept that at least ancient humans understood.

Sorry. That's rubbish.

Did hunter/gathering stop on a Sunday, a day which ancient humans would have no understanding of?

Unfortunately for those that believe in the Sabbath as a day of rest because God took a day off from creating the universe, (bless Him He must have been exhausted), they need to accept that it's not relevant in modern society.

Or ever.

I think you underestimate ancient humans. Constant work and stress is a modern invention. A white European invention. Before colonisation things were pretty good for most people globally.

Seriously?

Tell that to medieval peasants who worked from dawn to dusk every day of the year farming the land for the local Lord, and if they were lucky sent their kids off to live and work to be apprentices for a skilled trade by the ages of 9/10.

Or how about the billions of slaves around the world that existed around every major power for thousands of years.

Has anyone ever done a Section 75 claim via credit card?

My phone stopped working, the shop won't/haven't repaired or refunded so, Citizens Advice said to raise a S75 claim.

Is it guaranteed to work? How long do they take to sort?

yes i did and got the full amount after a while.

When did your issue arise- its got to be within a certain amount of time.

Did you pay on your credit card- Its gotta be a certian amount, i think £100

All the conditions are met, which is why CA have advised I take the route.

So, when you say a while - weeks or months? Was it straightforward?

They aren't guaranteed to work and can take up to about 4 months i think.

I did one with an order that was delivered to my house, but left outside, against delivery instructions. When I got home, it was gone.

That was for about £200.

The retailer didn't want to know because there was a photo of the item outside my house. The courier didn't want to know because they acted on behalf of the retailer, and wouldn't speak to me.

Raised it with Monzo, was told it'd take up to 16 weeks.

Gave them all the details and they refunded me after about a month because they we're confident they'd get the money back from the retailer, although it hadn't been agreed yet, they told me the retailer didn't have a leg to stand on.

I would imagine a lot of our ancestors lived as serfs. Even in relative modern times people worked as long as possible and ended their days in the workhouse.

And those are just the ones that lived past a few years old.

Just looking at the infant mortality rate in any era other than the present one really makes me wonder why anyone would want to live in that previous time and/or romanticise it.

Yes  I would think Dickens work went some way to redress the balance. I did some family research and learnt my great great grandmother died after childbirth.  My great great grandfather with kids in tow had to appeal to the local parish for support with burden of proof on how long he had lived in said parish. Not exactly romantic picture of the past

Thinking back now once i told the retailer that i was raising a Section 5 against them they reimbursed me within a couple of days.

Try that first BUT start the claim now- you've got nothing to lose as long as the criteria is met.

Retailer doesn't want to know, I've tried for a refund directly. Just consistently lying now - Saturday they said it was still in London with the technician being repaired...Google device tracker showed it was still in their shop.

Just ask your CC company to raise a section 5 against the retailer today, give them all info and send any emails/ messages you have  and let them sort it out.

Sounds like a no brainer.

Let us know how you get on👍🏾

After some decent home office furniture - looked at Cotswold company - need to get everything done including a redecorate for £2k tops, including a decent chair. Anyone who has done this recently recommend away.

As an update, the property went on the market last week, we’ve had 6 viewings and today,  two offers, one for the full asking price from a cash buyer!
Hopefully just the formalities to sort out and it’s gone 🤞

Another twist…

Buyers pulled out about 10 days ago because the estate the house is on is subject to a management company, seems like their solicitor has been scaremongering… The agent told me that they have sold dozens on this estate and never had any issues and actually find it a bit odd. We got another buyer the same day, full asking price again, so we’re on track again, although now about 8 weeks behind and several hundred pounds poorer…

FAO any plumbers or DIYers

Moved into a house a few months back, noticed all the radiators aren't connect via a traditional copper pipe but have plastic flex which sits under the rads - its a bit unsightly, I think its called a Hep2O system, or a microbore - not really sure.

Is it possible to convert back to copper, or hide the plastic flex so it isn't dangling under the radiator? I want to gradually get some feature radiators (hallway, bedrooms, lounge etc) but don't really want a plastic pipe hanging underneath a nice radiator!

Cheers

Interesting debate. I often wonder whether we really have better lives than cavemen. Like of course we have better medicine, technology, live longer, live in more comfort etc. But does is actually feel better in the pit of your stomach on a day to day basis? I’m not sure. I’ve definitely pivoted from thinking the internet being a fantastic thing for society to it doing more harm than good in the past few years and AI scares me if I’m honest. I’ve definitely started to appreciate as I’ve got older that the Luddite protesters of Loughborough had a point.

Yes, of course.
What you have is what I’ve used all over my house but only where it’s not seen as I’ve converted to copper in those areas on show.
Each one would have to be looked at and worked out in its own situation, for instance, to hide and convert completely might mean a floorboard coming up, not ideal if it’s carpeted.
Another option would be to box the plastic in to hide the conversion to copper.

Bank Holiday rail travel in the UK, especially on East Midlands Rail. Been reading about it in general terms, but thinking about it as a possibility of getting to a match this spring. We'd plan and book the trip well before the engineering works are announced.

In general, what's the worst case scenario you've seen with EMR? Bus replacement service, reduced schedules? Sadly, not not first dealings with EMR cancellations.

Is it just me or is it a lot harder to get a dodgy football live stream since the Online Safety Act has come in? Had to get a VPN going in order to find something for the game tonight.
