Criggers Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 No chance of getting £2 mill for him, he only has 18 months left on his contract so they'll be trying to pick him up on the cheap. Birmingham seem to see him as a cheaper option than Adam so it depends on whether thay are successful or not whilst bidding for him as to whether they bid for Wellens That and the fact Liverpool are joining the Adam's fan bandwagon. Even with their current crysis I think I would chose Anfield of St. Andrews. Added for reference http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_6658635,00.html
clare Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 I really hope we don't sell him and that he wants to stay here. I am a big fan of Sven's tenure so far and I really feel that Abe, King and Wellens are crucial to our season. Since we are in a relatively comfortable position it's not like we have to sell him, is it? I think Wellens has been excellent for us recently (bar Millwall, but that was a poor team performance) and I think it would be absolute madness to sell. We need to build a strong, stable squad to continue our push up the table and for me Wellens has a key part to play in that.

It could be just paper talk on the Liverpool side of things
Houdini Logic Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 This wouldn't be happening if we gave him his own song
Tommeh Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Some have changed their tune on here then. Pretty sure a couple of months back he wasn't worthy of a first team place, had little future and was nothing more than a "Pantomime player" Never picked up the credit he deserved last season and has been simply immense in this one. Best player at the club currently, I'll be fvcking devostated if he was to leave and am very confident he won't.
lestajigs Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 This wouldn't be happening if we gave him his own song Yea, can't understand why we have not had a song for him!!
superfox1980 Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Ideally don't want Wellens to go but any offer above 2 mil will surely be considered. He's 30 with 18 months left on his current deal. Hope Sven sees that we need a settled side if we're to gain any momentum and get into the playoffs. On the flipside if indeed Wellens wants to go then 2 million is a great deal for the club.

CosbehFox Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Exactly. He wouldn't be a massive loss. If you think he is the integral part of the future of Leicester under Sven, you are an even bigger muppet than I thought. He'd be a massive loss in the formation and way we currently play. He's the nearest thing we have to a box to box midfielder. King's increasingly play in support of the striker and Abe's the defensive workhorse. To think of the three he's the only player who can spot a defence splitting pass or dribble past a player with ball skill. It might not be part of the future but he's currently the best we have. I have said numerous times on here, if he was quicker, he'd have played in the Premiership for the majority of his career.
CosbehFox Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 He's in a purple patch at the moment for sure, but I have my doubts that if a Premier League club had been watching him for any length of time they'd be that keen, and although I wouldn't dream of writing someone off at 30, he's hardly up and coming, is he? Brum will probably slap in a massive bid now I've said that Brum and Wolves were ready to sign him when we bought him. The last time I saw him was at Millwall where he was distinctly average. So yes. But our attacking threat completely died with his subbing.
Edmund Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 With only 18months left on his contract which wont be very high at today's rates having come from Doncaster it will show whether Sven sees him as a longer term option. If Brum are serious they could offer him a decent 3/4 year contract which we'd need to match, Wellens would be entitled to think we can with all the money being thrown at the likes of Yakubu. Reading between the lines it seems you're insinuating that his agent is trying to drum up a new contract. Because that's the way I see it. Brum have probably shown interest but the timing of this and the Yakubu signing only points to one thing. It's inevitable that there will be a bit of unrest when some players are getting paid a lot more than others. As you say I can't see Wellens being on the biggest of wages so you can't blame him if that's the case.
hackneyfox Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 He only moved here for the money, never wanted to leave Doncaster despite only having been there for 3 years.
marbelladave Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Wouldn't be that fussed to be honest. I have never been his biggest fan and have made my views known on many occassions, he has beem much better in recent weeks and I have commented positively on this fact. In fact it is only his recent form that stops me from urging us to 'bite their arm off' for anything around the £2m mark.

He only moved here for the money, never wanted to leave Doncaster despite only having been there for 3 years. It will still be relatively low compared to anything Brum might offer.
hackneyfox Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Agreed, and my point is that if he would go from a Championship club where he was loved to another for more money then he'll be off like a shot to Brum should they want him.
Brainy Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 If theres any truth in it, I think he will go. Dont know why, just a feeling same Have you actually seen him recently? He's been all but distinctly average recently. sounded like on the whole he's been average, not recently
ibbosuk Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 I would take 2 million for Wellens, he would not be that hard to replace.
Kitchandro Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 As good as Wellens has been this season and as much as I like him as a player, I would be inclined to sell if the price was right (£2.5m+). I think he would be the easiest of our midfielders to replace. I think he'd be the hardest midfielder to replace.
Kitchandro Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Exactly. He wouldn't be a massive loss. If you think he is the integral part of the future of Leicester under Sven, you are an even bigger muppet than I thought. No you are a muppet. I find it baffling that people can't see how important he is to them team, especially considering he was ever present last season when we finished 5th (even King didn't play many games early in the season)

Simmo86 Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 I think he'd be the hardest midfielder to replace. Not really. He doesn't score goals like King and hasn't got the work rate of Abe. Although he's been good in recent weeks, it wouldn't be that hard a task to replace him. Anywhere near 1.5 mil and we'd be stupid not to bite there hand off.
Fox92 Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Why would he be off like a shot? He rejected them along with Wolves to come here in the first place, unless now Birmingham can offer him first team football. Really hope we don't loose him. His footballing brain is class (along with Vassell) and thats what makes him abit quicker (thinking wise, not pace) than the other players. He is also very skilfull and his passing (and vision) is top class along with his touch. Would be very dissapointing to loose him. I don't understand why he has never played in the Premiership before though. He's easily better than some of the midfielders in that division. Top player. Our best midfielder by a mile.
Wymsey Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 I heard when we struggled under Sousa that he along with Fryatt were unhappy and handed in transfer requests. I won't say this is an unlikely deal then.
