Man City 4 - 2 Leicester - Post Match Thread

I was only a Tv spectator last night but although I'm proud of the lads and some of our play was very neat the gulf in class was massive as you would expect.

We were ok in the first ten minutes or so but for most of the first half they looked like they would score everytime they attacked. The second was more even but only really because tevez took a poor penalty and for some bizarre reason Hobbs was allowed to stay on the pitch. Dyer's goal was a classy effort mind you but apart from that effort I don't recall their keeper really being tested.

The worrying thing for me was how often we lost the ball in a 50:50 challenge, our midfield was especially bad at this and our general unwillingness to put in a challenge. Abe's "tackle" for the first goal was pathetic and I thought Oakley? had a chance to tackle Tevez? in the breakaway for the fourth goal, ok he may have conceded a free kick in doing so but sometimes I just think we need to be dirtier and more physical.

Our forward line is a worry. Ok Yak couldn't play and Vassell was injured but without them we don't seem to really have any back up and in the first half we just didn't have an outball to Howard due to his general lack of mobility.

Still it was interesting to see us up against quality and fair play to them for treating the competition and us seriously and putting out a strong team against us. Over the two games I thought we played pretty well but the gap between the championship and the premiership is one I'm not sure we are ready to embrace with our current squad.

Some decent comments there but the last one about us not being ready for the Premiership, well I don't think we're far off to be honest. Judging by what I saw in the 2 games v Man City I thought we were brilliant against the richest club in the world and bags of quality!

Agreed not with out current squad, but should we get promoted this year who knows what players Sven can attract, the big profile names who we have enquired about this month would be more likely to join us, and with a couple of quality players and some decent back up we would do well in the top flight.

I did acctually, and couldn't hear a thing! They call man united but if we played them last night they would have filled old trafford! All that money maybe the owners should buy new fans! We were awosame last night! Loved it!

lol 27,000 fans and 6,000 were from Leicester. What is it Dzeko said in an interview 'most of the fans in Manchester support City', I think you've signed for the wrong club in Manchester mate!

Good performance by Leicester and gave Man City a right run for there "money". Weale, Dyer, Bamba impressed for me last night but the likes of Tevez, Jinky Johnson, Silva and there counter attacking was unbelievable to watch. Leicester can take a lot of positives out of this game and hope they can push to make a play off spot.

Nice to see a few old faces aswell (C-man, Jamie, Andy etc)

OK Weale saved a penalty, which was straight at him. Definitely at fault for their fourth. We have seen him let in long range average shots too many times. Out of position, no doubt, too far to the right and not far enough off his line to cut the angles. Always the same with long shots. Maybe we need a new goalkeeping coach, not a new goalkeeper, or maybe both would be better.

At the end of the day we have proved we can score against one of the more "better" teams in the highest division.

Thought that some of the goals could have been avoided as Weale's positioning for some of the goals was questionable. He did well to save a penalty though, even though it was a poor penalty from Tevez.

Dyer took his goal well though, finally.

Stayed at home and watched on TV, so some brief thoughts.

Our support sounded terrific, not many pictures but very noisey throughout.

A generally fiesty performance from most of our players, Citeh expected a cruise and we really shook them up at times.

So, how did we play? Not at the game so I would appreciate any input from those who were. For me the game divided neatly into three parts...

The first half hour we really took it to Citeh, more corners, more shots and much of the time more conviction. From the TV replay it was clearly a penalty although what Viera was doing flicking out at Dyer, who had clearly pushed the ball too far, is unclear. We were decent going forward though Howard didn't contribute at all, most of our best play went through Gallagher.

Defensively we were ok but made two big errors, the first let in Johnson early on whose poor finish was, in part, due to the close attention of the covering player, Gallagher believe it or not! The second was woefull, Abe stepped up to tackle Tevez and sold himself badly, Hobbs covering tackle was powderpuff and it was 1-0.

The 15 minutes before half time was chaotic, without the excellent Gallagher covering on our left Berner was exposed and destroyed for their second and for me this was pivotal, it shook up our defense to such a degree that it was still in disarray when it let in Johnson for the third, fine pass from Silva though.

First half conclusions, Gallagher was superb, most of our attacking threat disapeared with him and astonishingly we (I mean Berner) really missed him defensively. Abe started the game trying to play a conservative holding role in front of the back 4, this is something I have been advocating for some time, but on the evidence of last night I was wrong, he was hopeless in that role, the Tevez goal saying it all.

Second half we started poorly, with Gallagher and Wellens missing and the ineffective Howard still up front, Citeh were cruising, it looked like we were in for a thrashing. Citeh were totally in control and when they carved us open to put Tevez through only for Hobbs to send him sprawling it looked like the beginning of a rather embarrassing end. Strangely Hobbs was allowed to continue (:dunno:) then Weale saved the spot kick and we suddenly had a bit of belief. Abe, in his more usual 'hustling' mode was begining to have an effect, the introduction of Waghorn seemed to give Dyer room to work so we started to take it to Citeh, who once again were required to put in rather more work than they wanted.

When Abe played in Dyer for our second it was just about deserved, but sadly we succumbed to the sucker punch a few minutes later and it was all over.

Second half conclusions, defensively we looked a little more composed but then, Citeh were in taking it pretty easy. Abe was a far better player playing his usual snappy, up and down game and when Waghorn came on we looked all the better for his efforts and although he made little impression himself, he did occupy the Citeh defence more effectively than Howard. Dyer's goal came as something of a relief, both to himself and the fans and most of our players can take something quite positive from the game. King's current form is something of a worry though, maybe he needs a rest, as does Berner though for very different reasons.

Think they were lucky to score four last night, don't think they tried too hard tbh. But we had a hand scoring two. But we were never gonna trouble the second best team in the country too much without wellens gallagher or a good striker, so superb effort. Proud.

We should have buried em first time round :P

Really? In both games they have missed a handful of absolute sitters in my eyes. Had they been put away we could have been on the end right drubbing.

Both 2nd halfs of the 2 games we had the majority of the possession, I was absolutely astounded by this. For a team as good as Man City, it either shows they massively under-performed against us or we are a team who is capable of maintaining possession of the ball willy nilly. I was impressed. We just need 1 or 2 more creative players in our squad to get us out of this league. When Gallagher and Wellens went off, we lacked that final bit of quality. Pearson, Sousa and Sven have certainly taught these players how to pass a ball, very impressed. Long gone are the long ball days I hope.

I thought Jack Hobbs was the weakest link in the team yesterday. He was at fault for two of the goals. But i suppose he has inexperience against the big boys and is still young so he will learn from his mistakes from last night. Thought Dyer was excellent but more pleased he scored a one-on-one goal as he had quite a few like them this season but failed to score. Well done to all the team and they should have their heads up from the performance that they made against a team of apparently £167 million. :scarf:

lucky in the sense that our defence parted like the red sea to allow them a harsh scoreline after our first half

Anyone got/made any gifs of when Bamba turned Tevez or Moussa turned 3 players on the edge of the box? A couple of good moments there aside from the goals!

The atmosphere at the game was awesome thanks to the cracking support, as usual, from our fans. The players put in a spirited effort and for some parts bossed the game. Dyer, Wellens and Gallagher played well. King was quiet, but Sven needs to realise that we cant depend on Howard to be up front alone. I think how different it could have been if Vassell was fit to play. I think 4-2 is a score line that will make Man City look better than they actually were on the night.....another mention has to go to Weale who I think had a great game and saved it from being 5 or 6. But now we can concentrate on more important matters of getting a good run in the league and pushing for the play-offs.

Just a couple of general thoughts about yesterday's game.

Man City's midfield is good. Very good. I knew David Silva was a good player, but I seriously didn't realise how good he was until yesterday. Exceptional player, and his pass for their 3rd goal was just sublime. Yaya Toure as well, incredibly mobile for a big man, glides past players with ease and just generally looks like a tank. For all the talk about their midfield, again I didn't know exactly how good Vincent Kompany was until yesterday, either. Howard usually wins his fair share of headers against any centre-half, but yesterday Kompany bullied him and kept him well out of the game - I think that was displayed most when Kompany fvcked up a clearance under pressure from Howard, fell over and STILL managed to keep the ball in play, skip past Howard and lay the ball off. Oh yeah, and Tevez being described as "lazy" is one of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard. Even if he is an annoying cvnt. Funny how he squared up to Wellens (who would've ended him anyway) but when he got shoved over by Bamba in the first half, he just lay there and didn't get up until Bamba had moved up the field lol lol .

Anyways, enough about the mega-rich, I thought our lot looked pretty good yesterday and were more than a match for a team 31 places above them in the league standings for the most part of the game. Yes, Man City did look more assured in possession and were menacing every time they came forward, but we also kept the ball extremely well (especially when Howard went off) and the match stats reflect how well we played in my eyes. I was saying to Floating Fox when we were battering them that we needed to score, and sure enough, we didn't, they got a rather fortuitous bounce in the box and Tevez rifled home. Not really sure how the ref gave us our penalty - from where I was stood at the other end of the ground it was literally the worst touch I've ever seen followed by an audacious dive! Oh, and if anybody does their homework on Gallagher, they'll realise all his penalties are dead centre. Worrying.

Still, it'd have been easy for us to give up and just roll over at 3-1 down at half time, but we didn't and that was credit both to Sven and our team. The committment and endeavour we showed to keep playing and pushing to get back into the game was brilliant and I could not fault any one of them for their effort last night. Which brings me on to individuals: Howard - far from good enough and shown up by Waghorn in his short space of time on the pitch. Hobbs - EXTREMELY lucky not to be sent off, how he stayed on the pitch is beyond me but thankfully he did. Dyer - can't finish 1-on-1s...:P

Stand out performers for me were Weale (especially his one-handed, point-blank save in the second half. Phenomenal and if it was Joe Hart doing that against a big club or at international level, it'd have been rimmed 'til the cows came home), Abe and Bamba.

Other:

Glory, Glory Man United made me vom.

Raj is still a legend and it was awesome to catch up with him again.

Good to briefly catch Tevez (of FT fame).

lildave3 drives like a lunatic.

LOVED the level of standing and noise yesterday.

Shit, just to add that we've outscored Chelsea, Man United, Juventus and Liverpool - combined - at Eastlands this season, and the only teams to score more than us there have been Arsenal and Wolves. Good numbers. Yeeeee.

Finally made it back to London at 2.45 this morning to start work at 4.45 this morning, god knows how I made it through that shift :D

Cracking night, decent performance even if we did lose a bit of creativity once Wellens and gally went off. Lloyd was bloody brilliant last night! Couple of Manc fans I got talking to on the way out said what a handful he was. I was particularly fond of the moment he shoved Viera despite being absolutely dwarfed by him lol

Good atmos from our fans too. Sterling work folks

And Elokobi & co at Wolves

I think we're only the 4th team who scored 2 or more at Eastlands this season. We're now in the same company as Arsenal, Wolves and Everton.

Highlight was definitly the Man City players getting off the bus and the legend Leicester fan that shouted in his natural but brilliant voice as Joe Hart stepped off the bus:

" Taxi for Joe Hart" Louder : Taxi For a Mr Joe Hart?! - The way in which it was said was brilliant anyone else see/hear it ?

Tevez and Silva are unreal live. We did okay not great. I feel the goals they did score we could've done better defensively. we had a mad minute that screwed us over.

Fans were quality, Jump up with the scarves must've looked immense from the home end.

This occurred to me whilst I was posting in the player ratings thread lol and so my pre-emptive 12:48pm edit beat you to pointing this out. Although you clearly started posting before I'd edited as you've got the original. Hey, ho, shit happens. :P

Very impressive numbers though considering they put nigh-on a first team out against us. Twice.

Even more impressive is that Arsenal only managed 3 there despite Man City having a player sent off after what, 5 minutes?

Yep! I was looking through BBC Sport's results section for Man City and trying to find the fourth team!

Each time I look back at the stats and the teams, and the effort we put in by the way we played over 180 minutes, I just feel pride. Total pride.

A bit ridiculous for people to be saying we should move on the likes of Howard and Oakley for shit performance against Man City. When are we playing them again exactly? If and When we have four quality players up front ahead of Howard and another couple of midfielders ahead of Oakley we need them.
