Bruno - to play at Centre Back ?

Recommended Posts

I've been told from a contact at Belvoir Drive, that Faz was working with Berner all last week on Centre Back play. Apparently, Sven is considering playing Bruno at Centre Back, so he can accommodate Van Aanholt at Left Back - and help out with the need for a bit of experience in the centre. Presumably he also feels the need to have a left sided defender in the middle of defence as well - with Bamba, Hobbs and Vitor all being right-footed and Mee still being very untried.

Might be OK. I think Bruno has played at centre back in the past, for a couple of other teams (including Switzerland). He certainly has the build for it (though I do worry about his lack of pace - in the middle, as well as at left back).

Wouldn't be against that- Bruno is naturally left sided and would compliment Bamba.

Not a centre back though is he, and to my knowledge has played there very little or at all. None of us really know if he'd be good there until he's tried but he doesn't look a natural centre back to me.

Bruno has played in centre midfield so he is quite versatile. Would prefer him to Mee at LCB, but would he be better than Hobbs there???

if this is true then it proves than Sven is willing to try ANYTHING rather than give Hobbs a few games to find his magnificent form again.

good job you haven't overreacted. :frusty:

need backup for hobbs regardless. plus even though i am a big fan of hobbs, he has proven that he is inconsistent.

don't expect sven to drop hobbs to play bruno at cb without reason.

Well you have to choose who you want between Bamba & Hobbs because they're both vying for the same position Right CB. For all the support he quite rightly receives Hobbs is relatively limited, he's been shown to be extremely poor in the RB position and suspect to say the least at Left CB, maybe he''ll improve and develop in time but at the moment the only position he has shown he can manage successfully is Right CB.

Decent idea, worth a go IMO. He'll struggle against pace but he'll physically compete whilst Bamba does the covering.

At end of the day, Hobbs has been poor this season and if you look at games played I think he's in the top five. It's clear Sven knows there is a player in there, it's up to him to learn and step up.

I agree, kind of reluctantly but we shouldn't let a sense of loyalty to 'our lad' get in the way of the fact that the club is going all out for promotion now and just doesn't have luxury of bringing a player through a transitional period in his development.

Marbelladave has spoke at length about Hobbs, and what he says is mirrored on the pitch

I am a Hobbs fan, but LCB is obviously a problem for the club

Bamba has both, current form & seems to be getting the rub of the green when it looks like he's got his legs in a tangle, he also has the ability to to get himself out a hole if he happened to be wrong-side of the attacker - not to mention his scoring prowess.

Would have been interesting to see if Van Aanholt's pace helped Hobbs out like Naughton's did Morrison before he left. All Hobbs can do is knuckle down and work on his game he is a good player, but the current style of a team dictates that everyone must be comfortable on the ball in the position they play in and Hobbs is happiest when he's getting rid of the ball quickly.

What Berner lacks in pace should be ably covered by Van Aanholt & Berner is obviously happier bringing the ball out & retaining possession than Hobbs is

so worth a go if the powers that be have found it working on the training ground.

My concern is having two forwards racing up the pitch which could leave us horribly open to counter attacks

Or maybe he wants someone whose preferred position is on the left?

I like Hobbs, but he doesn't look at all comfortable as a left CB. Bamba doesn't deserve to be dropped so what do you do?

RF, I know Berner hasn't played as a CB before, but I think he could fit in.

I do hope that you don't mean 'forwards'. We'll never get promotion if we don't! ;)

Also I don't think both Naughton and PVA will go on runs together unless on the counter-attack. I should think Sven will expect alternate attacks from the back down the wings etc. But from what I've seen of PVA, he can easily track back. He has endless pace.

I think Berner and Abe stay behind and learn Ricardo a few pick-up phrases when the youngsteers play further up. lol

I agree, I see Berner staying back and being a great presence, while Bamba pushes forward, and tracking back easily, same with PVA and Naughton.

try what a few people have said for a few games. Put Hobbs on the right and see if Bamba can play on the left. eaither way they need a few games to gel together.

Hobbs has, in general, been poor this season, can we afford to drop points just to keep him in the team?

I want Sven to put out the strongest side he can until it is certain that we can't make the play-offs, at that point he can start to experiment players for next season.

This could very well end horribly wrong, and for anyone to assume "yeah Bruno could probably be CB" is risky.

Hobbs has been inconsistent but we as a team have generally so I think some people are being over critical. If he had a sustained run of games in a set back 4 I'll bet he would be back to last seasons best.

Still, my thoughts aside it is in :sge: we trust, so lets hope whatever he does has the desired effect.

Up the Foxes!! :scarf:

To old, to slow, won't happen.
