Homophobia in Football

It begs the question is chanting 'do you take it up the arse' more acceptable when sung to a woman than to a man? Now me I find them equally unacceptable but then I guess i'm old fashioned because I find the goading and abuse of ginger haired people equally offensive.

That's not to say I haven't verballed anyone ever but try to avoid using physical characteristics except baldness but I guess that's because I am virtually baldtongue.png

Anyone remember the Phoenix Nights scene where Dave Spikey is at the front of an Asda store selling black bin bags. The song he was singing contained the lines

"No matter what your gender,

Gay or straight or bender,

come, get your black bin bags"

This was hilarious, in context with the scene and the story. I think the chant at the guy in the pink hoody was entirely in context, therefore highly amusing.

If you feel this makes me a homophobe then you're utterly wrong... i love my home!

'whos the bender in the pink'

only homophobic thing i can think of what was said but surely that cant affend anyone?

It may have offended the bender in the pink, but then I think that's the point.

What seems to have happened is that a certain section of the crowd confused bad dress sense with liking to have sex with men.

It's not like people chanted death to benders, or started reading the Daily Mail. It was one comment at one person having a bit of banter with him.

Was it this guy? He does look a bit gay...

I believe that homophobia / racism etc is all in the effect not the intent,

ie/ if the caller was gay and felt crap hearing those chants then yeah he was suffering homophobic abuse but it wasn't directed at him (the caller) so tbh sounds like a bit of whingey little bitch but thats just my opinion

On a similar not,

Im a Yorkshireman and obvious massive city fan but i've had to put up with "dirty northern bastards" being sung away at Hull, Leeds, Barnsley, and at United last night, by not only the city end but by my dad girlfriend and best mate standing next to me, and i can honestly say i'm not about to ring up rother radio (rotherham fm) and cry about it.

Basically you can say what you like to who you like as long as it isn't true. Don't go calling gay guys faggots but if you want to say that to your straight mate that's A OK, never call someone ugly because that is just really mean and upsetting and it is also subjective so unless you are talking to a supermodel the target may think you are being serious even if you aren't and only joke with your Mrs that she is getting fat if she isn't.

I'm really amazed that anyone gives a shit. God help us if we ever have to fight a war if we get all uptight over a few irreverent or uncomplimentary chants.

I Don't Want To Join The Army

I don't want to join the army

I don't want to go to war

I'd rather hang around Piccadilly Underground

Living of the earnings of a high class lady

I don't want a bayonet up me arsehole

I don't want me bollocks shot away

I'd rather be in England

Merry merry England

And fornicate my ****' life away (cor blimey)

Monday I touched her on the ankle

Tuesday I touched her on the knee

On Wednesday I confess I lifted up her dress

On Thursday I saw it (cor blimey)

Friday I put my hand upon it

Saturday she gave my balls a twist

And Sunday after supper I rammed me ****er up her

And now I'm paying seven and six a week (cor blimey)

I don't want to join the Navy.

I don't want to go to sea.

I'd rather hang around Piccadilly Underground,

Living on the earnings of a high born lady.

I don't need no Frenchy women,

London's full of girls I never had.

I want to stay in Blighty, Lord Gawd Almighty,

Following in the footsteps of me dad.

Alternative version:

I don't want to be a soldier

Oh, I don't want to be a soldier,

I don't want to join the fightin' class,

I just want to go,

Down to old Soho,

Pinchin' all the girlies in the shoulder blades.

Oh, I don't want to see the Queen's dominions,

Why -London's- full o' girls I've never 'ad,

I just want to stay in England,

Merry merry England,

And follow in the footsteps of me dad.

So call out the members of the Queen's Marines,

Call out the King's Artillery,

Call out me mother,

Me sister and me brother,

But for Chrissake don't call me.

Monday night me 'and was on her ankle,

Tuesday night me 'and was on her knees,

Wednesday night, success!

I lifted up her dress,

Thursday night I lifted up her silk chemise.

Well, Friday night I got me 'and upon it,

Saturday night I gave it just a tweak,

Sunday after supper,

I finally got in up her,

And now I'm payin' seven and six a week (Gorblimey...)

Call out the members of the Queen's Marines,

Call out the King's Artillery,

Call out me mother,

Me sister and me brother,

But for Chrissake don't call me

Oh, I don't want to join the Navy,

And I don't want to go to war,

I just want to 'ang around,

Piccadilly underground,

Livin' off the earnings of an 'igh-class lady.

I don't want a bullet up me backside,

An' I don't want me knockers shot away,

I just want to stay in England,

Merry merry England,

And fornicate me bloomin' life away!

So call out the members of the Queen's Marines,

Call out the King's Artillery,

Call out me mother,

Me sister and me brother,

But for Chrissake don't call me!!

Another alternative version:

As sung by the officers of the 2nd Battallion 19th U.S. Infantry Regiment (Korea 1957)

Call out the army and the navy

Call out the rank and the file

Call out the bloody territorials,

They'll face danger with a smile,

Oh Blimey!

Call out the soldiers of the Queen's Marines!

Call out the King's artillery!

Call out me mother, me sister and me brother,

BUT FOR GOD SAKE DON' T CALL ME!

Homophobia - an extreme hatred or fear of homosexuality and/or homosexuals.

Banter - Friendly teasing between people.

Killjoy - a person who spoils the enjoyment of other people by behaving very seriously or disapprovingly.

Judge for yourselves.

I didn't hear it but it sounds like absolute madness anyone being offended by that, particularly when it's a chant aimed at one bloke in specific, who I do actually remember seeing giving it the big'un.

Some of the ignorance in here is just stunningly brilliant. Jesus Christ. lol

Phrases like "ridiculous PC" or "overly PC" or "the PC Brigade" might have become vogue but that doesn't excuse you from being actually offensive. It's alright saying "it's just banter" or "it's not as if it's true so why would he mind?" but that's spectacularly missing the point. The point is that, by calling him gay as something to be mocked you're confirming a social stereotype that being homosexual is a negative thing or something to be ashamed of.

I'm not going to sit here and fly the flag for Gay pride. I can't be bothered, it's a lost cause and - quite frankly - selfish as it is it's an issue that doesn't really concern my life a great deal. But a bunch of predominantly heterosexual guys sitting here and saying what gay people should and shouldn't be offended by? Fucking cringeworthy.

In this case you might be right, a lot of gay people might just roll their eyes and laugh it off but that's not really the point. It's not our place to be dismissive of what offends any other group of people, minority or otherwise. That's not "overly PC" it's just not being a complete cunt.
