cc_star Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 King's goals: 3-2 Palace (1) Didn't mean anything in the end 1-1 Coventry (1) - 1 point 2-1 Cardiff (2) - 3 points 1-1 Hull (1) - 1 point 2-0 Barnsley (1) - sealed the match 2-0 Derby (1) - match winner, 3 points 1-0 Forest (1) - match winner, 3 points 2-2 Leeds (1) - equaliser, 1 point 1-0 Sheff Utd (1) - match winner, 3 points I know it's not as simple as that, but King has wrapped up 18 points for us there by scoring key goals. It's hard to quantify a pass which retains possession & denies the opposition the ball so Wellens is never going compare to well to a stat like that, but (taking it to an extreme) Messi fared better than Xavi in world player of the year because you can't win matches without goals, so its hard to argue with your point even at this lower level.
CosbehFox Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 That doesnt make sense? or does it? Agree in principle though VASSELL has been good and definately has improved us He's been excellent as the central striker but less so on the wing. Either way, he's gave 100 % and never gives a defender an easy game.

I agree completely, but as they say, "goals win games" which i guess is why goalscorers have higher transfer fees usualy? Whether it's Wellens or King that wins it, they have both had fantastic seasons and are the only two contenders IMO.
JimmyB Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 Definately Wellens, When we're good he's pulling all the strings and getting stuck in, and when we're shit he is almost always the player that comes away with the most credit. Very few poor performances from him since Sven arrived. He's a much better player now he doesn't feel the need to attempt a hollywood pass everytime he has the ball. Naughton, King and Abe the other standouts, everyone else has been disappointingly inconsistent. We know the level of performance that the likes of Hobbs, Gallagher, Dyer and Vassell are capable of, but each has only had a handful of good games.
Stevosevic Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 Give one of them the Players Player and the other the Fans Players, seems fair. King will get top goalscorer unless we see a crazy run of form from the Yak. Young player....probably Naughton this year. Academy player...i wouldn't know.
lcfc_jme Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 King. Without his goals this season we'd be relegation fodder and in all fairness all of the criticisms aimed at King can be equally attributable to Wellens if he has no movement infront of him. Infact, before Wellens hit this patch of good form I'm sure he was being lambasted for attempting "ridiculous passes" and his pass-success rate was being ridiculed by most.
Jake Shapiro Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 Naughton or bamba but the second lad is gonna have to play few more games to prove his quality
Guest NGoloMode Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 Underperformed = Vassell Thought he's done well myself.
shailen Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 Whats the hardest thing in football? To score a goal! Therefore king gets my vote. I am tired of people saying king goes missing, have you seen lampard play for chelsea. He isnt always involved in the play but always gets in the right position at the right times
ajthefox Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 Kingy for me. Wellens has been great of late but goals are what win you games, and if there's no-one there to finish it then it doesn't matter how good the rest of the team is.
Captain... Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 We have created a hell of a lot of chances this season and I think we still have the record for most shots this season, and Wellens' contribution is largely responsible for that but we have not converted them. If we had been scoring golas regularly all season from our strikers and winning games 3-0, 4-0 Kings contribution wouldn't look quite as good, but as it is he is our top scorer by a long way and without his goals we would be up defecation brook desperately searching for our oar. Gally in second has scored most of his from dead ball situations and Howard in third scored half of his from penalties. King's goals have been priceless and that is why he gets my vote.
topharry123 Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 King or Wellens, hard to choose. Wellens has been the backbone of the team, but King has scored a huge amount of goals and put us where we are now. Both are tremendous assets to our club, but i'd have to pick Wellens marginally. In reply to earlier posts, Vassell hasn't set us alight yet, but has shown moments and has gotten better every game. I'd say he's made a solid start to his Leicester career. I'd also like to say that I think Gallacher would win my vote for most improved player. I really doubted his place in the team last season, but I am very impressed with what i've seen this year and would definately be sad if he left us.
Salieri Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 Has to RICHIE WELLENS.Most of our play involves him, opponents play is stopped by him.He never stops running.I'll have a pint of whatever he drinks ! Arise Sir RICHIE. Yep gotta say Richie WELLENS for me also with possibly Andy KING second and Kyle NAUGHTON 3rd Love it how jjstowell reverts to the old capital letter syndrome when replying to someone with a similar affliction.
The Doctor Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 hard to say - Kings goals have been priceless, looked like he would end up carrying us this season when sousa was in charge, wellens and abe have both done well in the centre. Naughton has looked very good, positive player which is important the way we play, i've got a bit of a man love for robbie neilson (and sol bamba) - but robbie isn't attacking enough as a full back. Weale has started to come back into form recently as well. I'd go for gallagher - didn't really like him at the start of the season, too light-weight, lazy and too much of a luxury but he's been impressive and, as shown by the man city replay - possibly our key player when going foward.

Messi Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Wellens will be getting my vote. But we have had a lot of stand out performers who have improved as the season has gone on, King, Wellens, Naughton, Abe and Gallagher spring to mind.
funkyrobot Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Has to be Leon CRNCIC. Cant believe nobody's mentioned him yet. Player of the season by a country mile.
funkyrobot Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Or Conrad LOGAN. Absolute class that lad. He dives through the air like a stickleback. He catches the ball like an inebriated performing seal.
ozleicester Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Kingy ............. Just cannot go past his goals Gally.............. Is the pivotal point for our football Wellens ....... Pure class, he's everywhere.
