Can someone please enlighten me as to

a) why he's captain

b) why he gets into our starting 11

c) why he still plays football

Don't get me wrong I'm not Oakleys biggest fan, far from it to be honest. But anyway, I'd say:

a) Good proffesional and role model for younger players, Experienced player

b) It's only the last couple of games that he's started, he hasn't featured regularly for us this year apart from maybe at the start of the year and up until now has only really been used as a second half sub under SGE

c) See point A, I suppose he's got another year or two in him after this season - at Leicester? Who knows

Because Abe has been shit recently so Sven gave him a chance. He was great at Derby so he deserved to keep his place.

Lets be honest our whole midfield was awful last night (including-14 goals-already-King and player-of-the-month-Wellens)

He brings something to the side that Sven thinks we need. He brought him back in the side as soon as he felt he got his form back. The bigger mystery is why both he and Wellens can play with such a lack of consistency

Oakley is the perfect player to have on the bench as he can fill in just about any where in midfield.

Thats it for me though, he shouldnt be starting as really he is past it, but a good squad player.

I'm pretty tired of all the dicking on Oakley. Fair enough he isn't much on the rest of our midfield (I.e Wellens and King) but he isn't terrible either. Like someone said earlier, our entire midfield had a complete shocker last night, not just Oakley. I don't think he's a great player, but he's definitely an asset worth keeping on the bench.

Correct. Oakley was brilliant against Derby

Oakley has now started 2 games both of which we have won.

Yesterday in my opinion wellens and king were just as bad if not worse. He always works hard and last night he got stuck in. His passing was poor but so was the whole team.

City fans always need a scape goat looks like oakley is it. Stop moaning get behind all of them and this could be an amazing season.

He didn't play brilliantly last night (he wasn't the only one). He was fine at Derby.

He's useful to have in the squad, Abe is a better player and will probably start again soon.

I'm not Oakley's biigest fan generally but I think it was fair enough that he's had a few games of late.

I was at Sheffield United & Abe didn't play well & looked like he needed a rest. Oakley came on and did well (even making a goal-line clearance as I remember) so it made sense to give him a couple of games in the team & give Abe a break. He had a good game at Derby as well to be fair to him. Didn't play well last night but then again, neither did the rest of our midfield.

Abe will be fresh again now so he'll be ready to come back in & I imagine he will against Cardiff.

No biggie

Oakley is terrible in defence when a player is running at him, partly because his lack of speed means he can't jockey for long so has to dive in. This doesn't help when he's playing defensive midfield

to me abe having a couple of poor games and needing a rest is not an excuse to bring oakley in..

with the backing money quality of player we have been getting i would prefer to have a better option than oakley ready to step in.

think sven is pretty set in his ways that if he likes a player for things he likes them, if he dont he dont..no real inbetweens.. the weale saga has proved that.. so he must see something in oakley that he likes as will continue to use him unfortunately..

As I have said many times before in SVEN I trust and Sven is the manager who takes out those eleven to start :scarf:

And still his not taking out a loser team this year, a win is a win but I wonder why Top got Sven when there is so many good managers here

Like others have said hes a good squad player and he breaks down the opposing teams attack in a similar style to Xabi Alonso on a lesser scale.

Posted

I think he's done ok recently. His passing is decent and I think he has been useful but he's too light weight, he just gets pushed off the ball and is a little scared of a big tackle.

It happened at Derby and yesterday and I think Abe should definitely start on tuesday.

Worth having in the squad though.

My last word in Oakley!

If all Leicester fans says hes shit why not drop him!

So we can close this windows

I like Oakley but to read this site weeks in and outsit´s time for last chance :chant:

All of you not liking him tell Sven or keep quiet!

Now we are going for top 6 :scarf::scarf:

(to begin with) :D

never slated him before, but last night i thought he was awful, didn't seem to want the ball at all. if anything he seemed to try and hide behind the opposition players so our team couldn't pass to him. but in all fairness, our whole midfield were shocking last night.

Ritchie Wellens never seems to play well when Oakley is in the team, they never seem them play well together!

Wellens just does not click or function when Oakley is in the team, he seems to take a back seat!

Maybe he can't be himself and respects his captain. Thing is, Wellens leads the midfield better!!

Wish it was that simple.....:dunno:

The real issue is that our midfield can be hustled and harried out of it's stride, and it can be done so quite easily. Picking on Oakley is the usual knuckledraggers excuse, saves having to think.

Why pick on him when the same thing happens even when Oakley is not in the side? Maybe you will have to realise that Wellens, King and Abe are not quite so great after all....:dunno:

But no, that couldn't be true, could it?

Wellens didn't seem to be hindered by Oakley at Derby last week.

Last night all three central midfielders were below par unfortunately.

Have you still got that tin hat?

Incorrect. Oakley was ok against Derby, albeit with a couple of mistakes when he lost the ball deep in his own half and was bailed out by the defence. He certainly didnt stand out as 'brilliant'. Against Bristol he was very poor, tbf Wellens and King werent much better.
