He scored 4 early on when we were on form and since cardiff, neither us nor him have been that effective. He is a finisher and he has already shown us that he's still got class, but when we're not playing well it effects everyone, particularly strikers who can't get into a game if the rest of team is performing poorly as well. Granted Yakubu was really, really bad on saturday but I think some are forgetting just how good he can be. Hopefully everyone comes back fresh and revived after the break and he bangs in a few more on the way to Wembley

What an erudite example of the downfalls of the new scoreboard. One of the MAJOR pitfalls of installing a new score board is the fragility of the screen, in no way do the makers of these scoreboards at all compensate for any impacts during the game. Moreover, as Googie quite rightly alludes to, Yakubu will DOUBTLESS hammer the ball high and wide so much it is an inevitability that he will smash these wafer thin screens to bits. A quick scan of the Walkers layout and it looks almost certain that the scoreboards will be placed above the existing ones, as anywhere else will reduce vision or necessitate the removal of seats, an attendance reducing matter that would not be desirable for the owners. This being accepted, that the scoreboards will almost certainly be placed above the existing ones, coupled with the fact that, not only Yakubu, but also the rest of the team consistantly hammer the ball out the stadium (I've seen it happen all of three or four times since we've been there ) specifically at that EXACT point leads me to suggest we start a petition and ask the owners to reconsider this installment. That or we could run a pools on it. Good point, well made, Googie.

MASSIVE overstatement to ridicule Googies quite frankly pathetic point, the scoreboards are too strong and highly placed (presumably) and the Yak too good for him to ever smash them. I was being an ass.
Simmo86 Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 I wouldnt say he was really really bad on Saturday, some of his hold up play was a different class. He just let himself down with his finishing again. Still prefer him to be in the team than not.

I just get the feeling Everton are going to offload him in the summer, and if he wants to still play in england a drop in league is probably going to be his only option. I know all the signs have been pointing to us getting promotion on wether he stays or not, but i dunno, i just get a feeling he'll still be here next season regardless.

Finnegan Posted 23 March 2011 Posted 23 March 2011 At the end of the day, Yakubu has obvious quality but the team are going to have to function well before we get the best out of him. I think he'd be a reasonable purchase if he stays fit but he's not a grafter, a battler. I find it difficult to fully appreciate him because I respect hard working players. But I sincerely believe that if we get our midfield and our wide players fully firing and creating chances for him then he'll be far more potent than any other striker at the club nor or in the last few years.
