Because at 4m plus waggy bristol would be getting the better deal.

We forget we have our own proven scorer at this level IF given a proper run in the team

If the manager rates one player, and doesn't rate the other. What's the point in keeping him?

The second bit is debatable.

He scored 12 in 34 two years ago how exactly is that prolific ? yak scored 11 in 20 last year Maynard scored 8 in 16 last year that's much more prolific just let him go in all honesty I think waggy is this generations Graham Fenton looks good but not good enough

Waghorn is not a 'proven' goal scorer. I like Waghorn, like I've said earlier in this thread, but we can do so much better now with the funding we have and Maynard is so much better.

Waghorn runs his socks off and works really hard but lacks the composure to ever be a proven goal scorer. Every goal, bar 1 or 2, he has ever scored for us has been lashed in. He'll always just try to put his foot through the ball, and at times he's missed when it would have been easier for him to score. That's the difference between scoring 12 goals a season to scoring 20, and that to us could be the difference between 2nd place and the lottery that is the playoffs.

Well he mentioned cash plus Waggy on the 21st, not 4 million and he was the first to post this on FT, yeah.

Is that the sound of humble pie? :giggle:

Waggys scored more than that surely? He got more than 12 just under pearson?

I think you're just taking the mick now. 12 goals in his first season and 4 last season. Hardly 'proven' is it. If you don't know that, then I'm afraid your arguement for kepping Waghorn over Maynard is flawed

12 under Pearson 3 or 4 last year sorry stats don't lie he ain't good enough

He scored 12 under Pearson, that's why he said 12 in 34 two years ago

Maynard is if was that good, wouldnt a premiership club already be on him. Also wouldnt he have had more Under21 caps....thats my thought.

I'd rather keep Waghorn myself, as Maynard could do well in the Championship but totally bomb in the prem.

I can't work out whether this would be a good deal or not. I'm convinced there's some real quality in Waghorn but I also think he's nowhere near as good as he was in the 2008/09 season. Whether his confidence levels are what's holding him back or not I just worry he'd never get the time or situations to find his form again for us. Therefore, it might be time to cash in when we can re-coup a fair proportion of what we paid for him, which was £2 million up front by the way, not £3 million.

Maynard not named in Brizzle's line-up for their friendly tonight

Carey; Ribeiro, Wilson, Fontaine, Ball; Hunt, Johnson, Reid, Bolasie; Clarkson, Pitman. Subs: Lennox, Muggeridge, Holloway, Edwards.

In part, probably because Pitman hasn't played much yet due to injury

Ignoring last season because I do think there was mitigating circumstances, Waghorn scored 12 goals in 43 appearances the season before... around 1 in 4

Maynard's run rate is around 1 in 2 (in a much worse team than we were under Pearson, in Waggy's good season)... this puts him on a par with Yakubu's run rate, but he puts in 10 times the work

Snap him up I say, I'd prefer Waggy not to be the make-weight as I believe we'll need the strength in depth, but if that's what enables us to get him, then so be it (unfortunately)

If Waggy was scoring 1 in 2 then we wouldn't be looking anywhere

Maynard is a proven Championship forward and you doubt he can step up.

But you would keep waggy who is far from proven at this level.

You really think Waggy can step up nxt year?

Why do so many have love affairs on here with players that show PASSSHHHUUUUUN but really are not good enough or really proven. ??

And one more point Passhhhunnn.

On the reported 25k a week we are paying some of these players I'd run or atempt to run through a brick wall.

Am 45 show PASSSHHHUUUUNNNNNN can i have a 10yr contract.

PS which way is the brick wall. :frusty: :frusty: :frusty:
