Ric Flair Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Player exchanges are actually quite rare in football, unlike Football Manager. Brizzle have got to want Waghorn and Waghorn has got to want to move to the complete other end of the country to where he heralds from. It's a shame Hull to own Maynard.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 I can't see us ever getting him Surely if he wanted to plat for us he would have handed in a transfer request or at least pushed BCFC to accept one of the previous offers I see this transfer firmly sitting with what Maynard wants - If he wants to leave and play for us then he should hand in a transfer request or push his board to accept an offer Pehaps he has already indicated that he will not sign a new contract and has said he would like to speak to us in private to Bristol. Perhaps they have tried their best to get him to change his mind. One thing I do know is that we would not keep going back in for him without some encouragement from somewhere. I personally think that it will be accepted and Maynard will be a Leicester player by the end of the week. This is due to our insistance on bidding away and they seem to have softened their stance in the comments coming out of Bristol. Lets hope so as we are crying out for some quality up front.
Callabinho Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Maynard will not be at Bristol next year, I think he will join us....eventually.
Shit_arse Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 I just can't see it going through because of all the things that can potentially go wrong Waghorn has got to want the move as well But I do agree with you about our interest - we must be getting some encouragement from somewhere Maybe agents? But it is strange that we keep going back
ibbosuk Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Maynard will not be at Bristol next year, I think he will join us....eventually. If that was Berlington saying that it would mean a bit more...

Itsthejoeker Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Sven really must see something in Maynard but my personal opinion is I hope Bristol City reject this offer, its dragged on for so long now that I think if we did get him the lads gonna have so much pressure to perform and if he doesn't bag the magical 20+ goals in a season him and Sven will be criticised a lot. We need to turn our attention to other targets now in the shape of Ebanks-Blake, Long etc. Long is £8m Maynard would be around £5m
Ricey Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 £4m plus Waghorn is silly business. Waghorn is 3 years younger than Maynard and has already proven himself in this division, with plenty of time to develop further. Maynard is a top talent, but is he £4m + Waghorn worth of talent? I'm unsure. If it was a choice between having Maynard and losing Waghorn or keeping Waghorn and signing Derbyshire instead, I'd go for the the latter.

Waghorn hasn't proved himself in this division at all. I'm still massively unsure on Waggy - he's full of fight and determination, but based on his pre-season performances, he seems technically lacking.

The season before last, when he had a good run in the team he proved to me he is more than capable at this level. My point is that he's 21 and will still develop further, it annoys me that just because Sven doesn't see him as a first-team regular at the moment that he's willing to get rid all together.
jock2612 Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Having watched Waggy last night i think his problem is playing in a 433 system on the left.He has said he would rather play off a striker up the middle and that is the position we saw the best of him I cannot understand why Sven has not experimented with 442 during pre-season
absolutelegend Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 it annoys me that just because Sven doesn't see him as a first-team regular at the moment We would never get automatic promotion with waggy leading our attack. he doesn't bring others into play enough and he doesn't get enough goals. I like the lad but realistically he isn't going to be anything more than a sub (this year) if we are to become top 2. Sven isn't stupid and knows this.

I think its an English footballing mentality, but look over at the continent where few teams play a 442. Its a system that is overly rigid, staid and too predictable.
dpjfox Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Im sure Sven told the Swedish media that Maynard wanted to join us, if true then surely a transfer request is the next option if negotiations are to continue (whether BCFC accept his request is debatable)

I wasn't saying Sven was wrong to not see him as a first-team regular this season, but I think it's wrong to sell him based on that. Waggy is a good age and has shown a lot of promise so far, we need to keep hold of players like that for our long-term future.

Our long term future will not involve the likes of Waggy, with our owners we will move on to bigger and better things imo

Waghorn has proven only that he can trap a ball further than I can kick it. He is hustle and bustle and erratic but he is showing a complete and utter loss of technique, skill, and confidence. The boy is worth around 750k-1million on the last season's display and this pre seasons's display. I loved him when he played for us under NP but that was his first season and this happens to a lot of players; they break through and look very good but then find it hard to do it week in week out and fail to live up to their reputation. Waggy is poor quality at the moment and the offer (if it stands) of 4million plus Waggy is actually an offer of 4.75/5 milion and nothing more - plus Wagy wages may be too high for Brizzle. As it stands I think he would do well their and net 14/15 goals for them but not for us he won't.
leicesterseddon Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Im sure Sven told the Swedish media that Maynard wanted to join us, if true then surely a transfer request is the next option if negotiations are to continue (whether BCFC accept his request is debatable) No. As others have stated, Maynard is unlikely to hand in a transfer request becuase he'd lose his signing-on bonus. Also, he (or his agent) is probably just dragging out the contract negociation process with Bristol City at the minute, as they may still hope that a PL club will come in for him this summer.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Come in Nicky Maynard, your time has come to leave the wurzels and join Leicester
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 The final bid to go in will be £4m and Waghorn. hope this works, although would be sad to see Waggy go as i do believe he could get better with age/experience etc

He's 21, he is by no means the finished product and I think you've been quite harsh on him in regards to his technique. I'd sooner offer him as a season-long loan with us paying his wages, the experience he'd gain would be crucial to his development.

Completely agree and if he doesnt develop much over that time then we can ship him out next year.
Samilktray Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Sven obviously doesn't rate Waghorn. Dont know why thats so hard for people to understand.
