80footgiraffe Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 IF we fail with maynard, yakubu we'll pay out of the nose for. trust...still think maynard will be here though
davieG Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 From the local BC rag BRISTOL City manager Keith Millen will hold talks with Nicky Maynard over his future next week after the Robins rejected Leicester City's opening bid for the striker. The Foxes are understood to have offered between £2.5 million and £3 million for the 24-year-old – with City chairman Colin Sexstone revealing two other Championship clubs have made informal inquiries about Maynard's availability. Maynard, pictured right, has one year left on his contract at Ashton Gate – and City remain hopeful of persuading him to sign a long-term deal to stay at the club. Boss Millen will talk with Maynard – who is away on holiday – late next week as City aim to resolve the striker's future, with the club understandably keen to avoid a situation where he runs down his existing deal. "We don't want to sell Nicky – we want to keep him," said Sexstone. "Nicky is still away on holiday, but when they report back next week, the manager is going to chat to him. "He has always indicated to us that he wants to stay, but if he indicates that he doesn't want to stay, then that puts a different complexion on it. "But we don't want to sell him – and we certainly don't want to sell him to a Championship club." Leicester, who have identified 12 summer targets and are known to want to bring in two new strikers during the transfer window, made a bid for Maynard – which was flatly rejected by City – late on Friday. However, if Maynard indicates he is willing to leave Ashton Gate this summer, there is enough interest from other clubs to suggest an auction will ensue. "Until Nicky signs a contract here – or doesn't – the speculation and interest from other clubs will continue, because he is a good player," said Sexstone. "I don't imagine this will be the last inquiry we have for him – in fact, we have had two more clubs express their interest. We have had a direct offer from one club and informal inquiries from two other Championship clubs. "Those clubs haven't made us an offer, but there was one phone-call and one email asking would we be interested in letting him go and, if so, how much would we want? The answer to both was 'no' – but it means people are circling and I don't expect this will be the end of it."
lestajigs Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 I think if we get Maynard, that would be a Massive signing!!!
Leicester_Loyal Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 Ha, we've identified 12 summer targets. Massive rebuild. Come on Sven!
Carlos9 Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 One of my friends i work with up here is good mates with Maynard and i have asked him to get some info from him but apparently he is on holiday in Dubai last time i spoke to him about it he said Newcastle where looking at him. He has bet me £20 he won't sign though but who knows! Would be the signing of the season for us imo, he is a proven goal scorer!!
Happy Fox Posted 21 June 2011 Author Posted 21 June 2011 http://www.bcfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10327~2379455,00.html? Keith Millen was pleased to see City reject a transfer bid for Nicky Maynard - and now plans further talks with the striker next week. The club has already offered a new deal to Nicky, who has a year left to run on his current contract. The club has rejected one bid from an unnamed Championship club, as well as brushing off two further enquiries from teams in the same division. And speaking exclusively to Bristol City Player, manager Keith said: "I'm glad the new board are staying strong and I've said before I don't want to lose Nicky. "Nicky is part of the team and squad I want to build for next season. "The speculation has certainly heated up (in recent days) but he's back from holiday next week and I'll be looking to speak with him. "Our stance is we still want him to sign a new contract with us, the board are strong and sticking to that. "Hopefully he'll be with us next season fighting for his place with all the other forwards." Chairman Colin Sexstone said today: "Until Nicky signs a contract here - or doesn't - the speculation and interest from other clubs will continue, because he is a good player. "I don't imagine this will be the last enquiry we have for him - in fact, we have had two more clubs express their interest. We had the direct offer from one club - which we rejected yesterday - and informal enquiries from two other Championship clubs. "Those clubs haven't made us an offer, but there was one phone-call and one e-mail asking would we be interested in letting him go and, if so, how much would we want? The answer to both was 'no' - but it means people are circling and I don't expect this will be the end of it."

Reazon Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 As a Bristol City fan, reading through this thread all I can say is 'WOW'! Can you pin point the exact moment in time when you disappeared up your own a*se? No one is saying Leicester arent ambitious and there arent many realistic BC fans that think we are on equal footing, but why do you find it so hard to accept that having seem Maynard develop over the last few years, we genuinely think hes too good for ANY other team in this division. You are in the second division, remember? Get over it..

Ric Flair Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 Let Forest have him for that price, that's daft. He's not worth that up front, maybe with add-on's but i'm not convinced.

That's more history than you're little tiny club has had and will ever had. I'm not disagreeing that' he's too good for this league, but bigger teams want him. Leicester aren't the biggest club, but we have a much larger ambition than you guys.

Admittedly a few have let the money go to their heads and that has been highlighted by some of the dross that you see posted on here daily. However, you must surely agree that we are in a better position, a sounder footing if you like, to have a major chance of being promoted than yourselves? Surely then you must agree that NM, as a player who I'm sure wants to play at the highest level, would move here over signing a new deal with yourselves, or even Florist, West Ham etc. As there are no Prem offers on the table as far as we all are aware it seems that a move to better placed team in this division is his best option..... PS. I wouldn't spend £4 million on him though....

We have geniune ambitions not just to be promoted but to be the best in the division. We are going to look at players such as Maynard who may be too good for this division and therefore help us acheive that goal. And in turn players are going to look at us as an attractive move to help further their careers. Before you go around accusing others of being up their own rear end I suggest you take a look at your own racist bunch going around saying that moving here would not be a move forward for Nicky.

Carlos9 Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 That guy can see a move to Leicester is a step foward, not sideways!

If he's too good for any team in this division then he wouldn't be at you, Leicester can match bids of Premier League sides - therefore he's as likely to go to us, does it really matter to you lot where your money comes from? Well done on remembering we're in the second division, it's a good job you lot are so used to it.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 I think if we were to offer say £3 mill with add ons for appearances and getting promoted etc you never know even small town racist mentality Brizzle might accept

Their fans often complain how tight their chairman is and their priorities lie elsewhere in the squad. A £4m striker would be an expensive luxury under the circumstances.
Filbert's Friend Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 Still want Earnie to stay , £4 million for Maynard according to the NEP ..no way are Forest ever gonna pay that kind of money ^ Taken from forest's forum. They're on about signing Nicky Shorey. Doesn't look like Maynard is much of a possibility from their point of view
Guest Bilo Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 ^ Taken from forest's forum. They're on about signing Nicky Shorey. Doesn't look like Maynard is much of a possibility from their point of view Yep, I get the impression their chairman is rather cautious with money. A left-back is a massive priority for them and they're probably more likely to go out on a limb for an LB than a striker.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 Have to agree with reazon here. Some of our fans border on arrogant. Is wasnt so long ago that we nearly didn't have a club! Ok we've come into some money- happy days. But that doesn't necessarily mean were gonna appeal to players! Someone said 'we can match premiership bids so hes just as likely to come here' no he's not! In the schmeichel thread someone put 'leeds will only finish mid table, why would he not want to come here?' yeh cos were nailed on for promotion aint we? Its embarassing, yet fans then wonder why we're not well liked!

Anyone who has followed City since the late 70's and early 80's will know we aint all that but at the same time lets not lack ambition either

But the fact that we have a highly respected manager and the money, if you believe the press, is to be splashed about (we all know here that isn't entirely true) then it will turn players heads. It's showing ambition and that will appeal to players.
