Aidy3 Posted 20 May 2011 Posted 20 May 2011 £2.6m! i'd accept that and bid for either Matt Mills/Ashley Williams, depending on which teams gets promoted.
Haydos Posted 21 May 2011 Posted 21 May 2011 Think that concerns me is that he's our only 'senior' centre back (not including Tunchev) and also the only permanent (Hobbs' future is uncertain and the loanees will be returning to their clubs for pre-season.)
Criggers Posted 21 May 2011 Posted 21 May 2011 Think that concerns me is that he's our only 'senior' centre back (not including Tunchev) and also the only permanent (Hobbs' future is uncertain and the loanees will be returning to their clubs for pre-season.) The thing that doesn't concern me is that like a lot of our fans that article From Villa blog focuses on his aerial threat and "impressive" 5 goals in 36 games including a lucky brace (any defender getting a brace is lucky) and one against "premier league opposition". Well if it wasn't for that man city goal and early brace he wouldn't have been loved so much by our fans, if a premier league team wants to pay over the odds for him on the back of that then why not take it? Lets face it if we paid £2m for naughton and sold neilson for £100k (if we're lucky) no one would complain so let's look at it the same way with Bamba? Sven is probably going to have to build a new defence anyway. The only saving graces for Bamba are that for all the moaning about our defence, his name has been pretty scarcely mentioned when it cones to choosing a scape goat and he is very very confident on the ball. And sorry if I am talking sh*te, I'm trying to sound clever after a few beers and a curry whilst sat on the loo! (no pun intended - haha)

(no pun intended - haha) For a start, I'll just say I've thought he has looked one of our weakest players for a big patch towards the end of the season (Against Reading he was truly abysmal before he came off) but despite this he does have the ability to be a good championship defender. Opinion of him is like it is because after a great start, instantly endearing him to the fans, he's slipped a bit and showed some weaknesses but I believe they can be worked on. To be honest I'd probably take 2.6m but it gets to the point where restructuring the squad becomes a big operation and next season is going to be just as transitional as this.
Candidcamera Posted 21 May 2011 Posted 21 May 2011 Definitely no to selling Bamba and ridiculous amount for him. He adds part of that factor that the other players seem to struggle to show - all out effort combined with raw enthusiasm.
MGLCFC Posted 21 May 2011 Posted 21 May 2011 Effort and commitment are great, but if you are not doing the basic correctly you get found out. We have a number of players who give everything (Waghorn, Howard, Weale and Bamba). However, whether they are up to leading a promotion campaign is debateable.

Clazie Posted 21 May 2011 Posted 21 May 2011 I think Bamba is perfect when next to someone who doesn't mess about. He has the confidence to pass it out the back four, or even run it out the back four. If we're going to play all that lovely football stuff, I'd want him in the team. But I would want someone solid alongside him, y'know, for when he ****s up and all that.
Happy Fox Posted 29 May 2011 Author Posted 29 May 2011 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1392178/Leicesters-2m-rated-defender-Sol-Bamba-chased-Aston-Villa-Everton-Fulham.html? Aston Villa, Fulham and Everton are ready to test Leicester’s resolve to hang on to Ivory Coast defender Sol Bamba. The 26-year-old former Hibernian stopper, who has a year left on his contract at the Walkers Stadium, has been watched by all three clubs, as well as Marseille and Paris St Germain. He would cost around £2million.
shailen Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 Good defender. Has the areial presence and physical attributes to be one of the best in division. Although comfortable on the ball, theres always a bit of nerves when he is running with it. Nevertheless, a top top defender whom we need to keep. If tunchev is fit, could be a could combination!
bluearmyfox23 Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 tunch and bamba at the back i think people are really harsh on bamba he is wat we have wanted for ages we have got it now and people want rid ??? i think he has 1 problem and thats his distrobution which i think is okay but he has even came out and spoke publicly and said that is wat he will be working on all summer so it would take £3.5m for me
MPH Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 For that price i would sell and , if they dont get promoted, buy that swansea defender we were supposedly after earlier in the season..
Alex Black Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 I would personally like to see Sol stay, he's got character, when he plays well the crowd sing his name. I'm sure we all remember Richie Wellen's son singing "sol sol bamba" on the last day of the season. And! How many players do you hear giving an interview who combines a French accent with a hint of Scottish. The guy is entertainment, and that's what we pay our money for!
Jay Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1392178/Leicesters-2m-rated-defender-Sol-Bamba-chased-Aston-Villa-Everton-Fulham.html? MGLCFC Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 Surely you judge a player on ability, not whether people like his enthusiasm and his name is easy to sing. I wonder if Bamba would have been as popular had his name been Dennis Smith? Whilst I have been quite impressed with Bamba, his positional sense and concentration goes missing from time to time. At 2.6 million, I would sell and buy either Matt Mills or Ashley Williams (as already mentioned) from which ever side failed to become promoted. The only way Bamba will be really good is with Tunchev next to him. People slated Bruma, but I firmly believe this was partly due to playing with Bamba. Both Bamba and Bruma were better when Mee or Vitor (traditional centre halves) played alongside of them.
Webbo Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 Assuming that there is any truth in this. If Bamba is as crap as a lot on here seem to believe why do 3 premiership teams and a top French side want him?

bluearmyfox23 Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 I would prefer matt mills over williams mills had a great game against us home and away and also he knows how to score
hbkkids Posted 1 June 2011 Posted 1 June 2011 i dont think bamba is great, he had an amazing debut, then played really well for the next three games but after that he was average. would not be gutted if he went.
bluearmyfox23 Posted 2 June 2011 Posted 2 June 2011 I think he would be loads better with a settled back 4 and a left footed centre back ?
Guest MattP Posted 2 June 2011 Posted 2 June 2011 Surely you judge a player on ability, not whether people like his enthusiasm and his name is easy to sing. I wonder if Bamba would have been as popular had his name been Dennis Smith? This. It's cringeworthy reading some of the stuff in here to be honest, "he's just what we need, does no one remember Richie Wellens son singing his name" seriously what the fcuk are some people on? After his first few games I just couldnt believe a man with this talent could have rotted in Scotland without the big 2 looking at him for 4 years, at the end of the season it was easy to see why, all the strikers in the top 6 he played agaisnt tore him to bits. 2.5million? If thats true its not even a question.
MGLCFC Posted 2 June 2011 Posted 2 June 2011 MattP I take it that you've taken part of my post as you are in agreement. Bamba is not great - prone to errors and only his pace and alot of luck have rescued him. I'd rather see two solid defenders - look at QPR, Shittu and Hall - no nonsense do the job right centre halfs. Whilst I've slated Hobbs in the past, I think he is more reliable than Bambi on Ice.
Guest MattP Posted 2 June 2011 Posted 2 June 2011 Of course. I could see it towards the end of last season, we conceded a couple of goals that started where he was on his backside somewhere near the right wing. You just can't have a consistent defence if one of your centre halves is doing that.
80footgiraffe Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 Bamba will be here next season, he says so on foxesplayer.
