stix Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 Then so did Ricardo but everyone had a problem with him. Not everyone....
RyanB89 Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 That video shows that the Egyptian guy parries virtually every shot. He doesn't like catching. Oh and Sven thought Ricardo was that good that he released him as soon as the season was finished. His contract expired, sven probaly didnt think he was "that good" but he knew he was better than weale and was the best goalkeeper he could get until the end of the season, which is why he only gave him a contract until then.
Tuna Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 he's 38 for crying out loud a ridiculous age for us to be signing a player this is absolute madness if he signs for us! And i don't want to hear about Friedel, van der sar, david james or schwarzer yes they are old as well but you are building for the future not for a player who will retire in a year or two!

Or 4 like Friedel Or 9 like Kevin Poole. Keeper's can play on for as long as they feel its right.

We're building to get out of this league.

Kitchandro Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 Then so did Ricardo but everyone had a problem with him. Ah yes, Ricardo playing for Portugal... That's the impression some people had before he came, and the impression most have now. But yeh lets get him back, he was great... (and just remember you brought the subject up)

Haydos Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru-c6CUep2c Yea he's terrible I wouldn't bother, he used a biased youtube vid to support his point. You win this one Kitch

If he'd played well during his spell then Sven would have surely given him a new contract. As it happened he was no better than the goalie that Sven wanted to replace and he was therefore dropped and subsequently given his marching orders.

Sven knew he wasnt gonna be his number 1 goal keeper next season and thats why he only gave him a contract until the end of the season. It was either sign ricardo until the end of the season or have conrad logan as a backup or second choice keeper, i know which id prefer.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 I won't lie. I hope he signs. I love me some eccentric 'keepers, and I've got a right soft spot for the Egyptian side.
bithra Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2001032/Essam-El-Hadary-edges-closer-Premier-League-move.html
Hack Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Bert, Any thoughts on this rumour? even though he gets a great review from the latest International he played. Seems a long way from the talk of Westwood, Given and Co. He has never played in the UK and is now 38yo. Age of keepers doesn't seem as important as outfield players, but this one stikes me as a little out of left field move if true.
Bert Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 He'll be in the same boat as Ricardo for me. A decent keeper but just not suited to this league. I'm sure he'll be made a scapegoat but if he does come he needs our full support. Not the answer to our long term solution. Sven knows what he's doing though.
MC Prussian Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Why sign El-Hadary who is a similar keeper to Ricardo, but three years older? Why releasing the latter? I mean people were bitching about Ricardo - if El-Hadary signs, it'll be a gore-fest. He's eccentric to say the least. A big NO from me (and I've seen him play when he was with Sion).
Babylon Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Why sign El-Hadary who is a similar keeper to Ricardo, but three years older? Why releasing the latter? Because the crowd were so against him he was never going to work out here. He could have pulled off 12 Gordan Banks style saves in one game and people would still be chanting for Weale when he punched the ball. Better off clearing him out and starting fresh, and hope the natives have learnt their lesson.

AmericanScott Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Forget El Hadary, think we should sign this guy up. Would come for free (pretty much) and his wages wouldnt be high at all.
80footgiraffe Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Other goalies that would do a job and not too unrealistic. Paul Robinson Rob Green Al Habsi Chris Kirkland
