Jonezy Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 The Swiss surprised me there. I still remember their anti football at the WC, which though gave them at memorable win against Spain. That Shaqiri dude on the right flank looked a real prospect. Wilshere were the stand out player on the pitch though.
Mack Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 Entertaining game, disappointing result. I was impressed with Wilshire and Baines It's an international weekend. How can UEFA FIFA etc sanction an International weekend right in the middle of footballers holiday period? Oh hold on wait...
The Doctor Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 How can UEFA FIFA etc sanction an International weekend right in the middle of footballers holiday period? Oh hold on wait... several leagues play March - October. You organise the extra matches in Feb/Nov rather than in the summer then it's in the middle of the players in those leagues holiday period, they already play in the time when the leagues overlap.

These are Euro qualifiers. Surely it wouldn't be so hard to arrange the competitive games so they fell within the nations domestic seasons? Between FIFA and UEFA they have enough bullshit committees to sink a battleship.

Ok, suppose a qualifying group was england, sweden, russia, france & austria. you get 1 year and a couple of months to do all these fixtures. England, Austria & France have to play their games (home and away) to Russia & Sweden between March & May or August - October while not clashing with the domestic leagues. England, Austria and Frances games must be played between August & May, while not clashing with the fixtures v Russia & Sweden or the domestic leagues Russia v Sweden must be played between March & October, while not clashing with the fixtures v England, France & Austria or the domestic leagues. That would be very hard, nigh on impossible to organise without ****ing one of the countries over.

It means there's football on on a weekend there wouldn't normally be. What fan would hate that!?
Wymsey Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 Beginning to wonder whether Capello's time should be up. We were not at our best and haven't been for ages.
Finnegan Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 We're not that good. People need to realise. I think people are starting to realise, to be fair. I think you've underperformed under Capello. You were abysmal at the World Cup and you have been crap in this campaign. By your own standards, that is. Germany were the better side and I think they'd always have beaten you with the form they were on. But the way you fumbled through your group games was cringe-worthy, I almost felt so embarrassed for you I couldn't take any joy in it (almost!) There clearly was something wrong in the squad and it's obviously not fixed. You should have absolutely sexually assaulted Montenegro and could and should have putten both ourselves and Switzerland well and truly to the sword. The players just don't really look up for it and the gaffer doesn't seem to have a clue how to inspire them. The FA need to stop pissing around looking for a "technical" manager a la Capello and find someone that can put some life into your players. Not through being a sulking taskmaster with no charisma, but in the way that Walter Smith and Alex McLeish inspired the Scots to perform above and beyond their capabilities.
purpleronnie Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 Beginning to wonder whether Capello's time should be up. We were not at our best and haven't been for ages. since 66. Its about time people focused on the players performances rather than the manager EVERYTIME! No doubt after Capello leaves and the next manager comes in the exact same thing will happen. And so it goes.....

This - Capello had no plan B in the World Cup. We need to play with life again. Wilshere looked awesome though I thought.
Austin Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 Consistantly inconsistant. That's England. We've been shite for ages and will continue to be.
purpleronnie Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 But we've had managers like that before (kevin keegan) players loved him, fans loved him, no result.
Corky Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 since 66. Its about time people focused on the players performances rather than the manager EVERYTIME! No doubt after Capello leaves and the next manager comes in the exact same thing will happen. And so it goes..... You speak sense. It's not as though we've gone on a massive downward spiral under Capello. He's performed better than the manager directly before. It's not great but we've been around this level for years.

It's not great but we've been around this level for years. That's a first. Montenegro only draw so not too bad.
Bert Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 Walcott was awful today. First touch of a rapist. Milner was just as bad. Ashley Young should've started for me. Thought we defended ok, just gave away too many silly free-kicks. Rooney and or Gerrard would've made the difference. Still with Montenegro drawing we're back in the driving seat. We've not been as good as we could be, or should've. But this is England and we tend to do things the hard way. Would love to see us play 4-4-2 in the next game with Lennon and Young on the wings, Wilshere and Gerrard in the middle.
hbkkids Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 decided to watch the match today, it was embarrasing, we didnt deserve a point, never mind a win, switzerland out played us, especially in the first half, every time they went on the attack you thought they were going to score and why is capello playing milner instead of young????

We definitely did. Just because we played poorly you can't just say we were completely shit. We created several more good chances, 2 which we should have taken. And to add to that, both theirs came from sloppy free kicks.
ajthefox Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 since 66. Its about time people focused on the players performances rather than the manager EVERYTIME! No doubt after Capello leaves and the next manager comes in the exact same thing will happen. And so it goes..... Agree with this. So many English fans think we have some kind of god given right to smash everyone and any time we don't we're shit. Maybe it's just that we aren't that good? If you're 'underperforming' on a consistent basis then surely you just aren't as good as people think.
FoxyPV Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 England = an average side. Fact. Get over it and enjoy the mediocrity.
Super_horns Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 But we've had managers like that before (kevin keegan) players loved him, fans loved him, no result. 2 previous English managers have failed to get as to major tournaments so these poor results aren't just down to the fact our manager isn't English..players need to be questioned as well. Afterall Redknapp is the favourite and whilst he might get the players going he cannot spend millions correcting everything in International management.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 4 June 2011 Posted 4 June 2011 Tonight, I'm going to ring James Milner and explain to him the purpose of having a wall at free-kicks. England = an average side. Fact. Get over it and enjoy the mediocrity. I'd say we're above average, to be honest. The top six in the world are untouchable, I'll concede that, but England aren't average. Of all the teams outside that elite six, there are ourselves and France that have the potential to break in. Average? Na.
