How's he been doing so far ? I imagine he's reaching a decent standard going by his next opponent.

He’s a ‘journeyman fighter’ buddy.

He’s gotten to a certain level and has decided he happy where he’s at. To get better would mean he’d have to give up the day job and literally put everything into his boxing.

He’s fought 27 pro fights so far, with the intention of giving younger lads who ARE looking to reach the next level, a good scrap.

It keeps him fit and it pays him very well.

He’s gaining a reputation of being a ‘go to guy’ to help younger fighters to progress as, so far, he’s still not been stopped. So all the opponents get 4, 3 minute rounds under their belt. At least, to date anyway.
Being a journeyman fighter is a fascinating thing actually. There’s some great books written about it. The purse is usually more than the ‘home fighter’ because my lad has to maintain his level of fitness pretty much constantly as he can be asked to take fights at the drop of a hat.

The lad he’s up against next is meant to be very very good. It’ll be a real test this one.

That's damn impressive, not being stopped in 27 bouts ! He's bound to get plenty of fights as he obviously has a lot of heart, stamina & no little skill.

Fair play to him, hope he continues to enjoy his work. You must be very proud.

You seen the BT film “cornered” Col, it’s about a bloke called Johnny Greaves a career Journeymen.

Our kid’s next fight is in Liverpool against an opponent being trained by Anthony ‘Million Dollar’ Crolla!

He’s just played me a message sent to him by Crolla himself. Sounds a very decent chap

Crolla is a nice bloke, bit too nice for a boxer but he massively over achieved by winning a world title so it worked out alright for him.

Must be do proud of your lad.

I've just got my 9 year old into boxing at a local gym.

He lives it so far.

I want him to be like Sugar Ray Leinard so he can keep his good looks!!

Seriously  though, the determination and sacrifices made by "The journeyman" are nothing short of heroic.

Goid luck to your lad

i remember reading an article about something very similar in the BBC a few months back.. I’ll have to find it.. they had much harsher words but guys like your son play such an important part of boxing as without them I feel like certain champions would not reach their potential and boxing in general would be of a lower standard.

Give me a shout if you think your son needs any further training mate. My lad (lad…he’s 27!), trains other boxers too

Bought a ticket for Wood v Lara next month in Nottingham.

Really looking forward to it, the last time I was there was Froch v Bute and I've never felt an atmosphere like it.

Hopefully a Wood win and setup a City ground summer fight v Warrington.

Sky doing their utmost to hype up Eubank Jr v Smith. Another non title fight on PPV is taking the piss IMHO.

Why was smith implying that Eubank is gay? He was acting like it was a bad thing that was very odd

I think Smith lost his head when Eubank make some snarky remarks about Liverpool and Smith's family.

It all got a bit personal and I think they've both apologized but Smith hasn't done himself any favors. I bet he wishes he could take it back.

Eubank coming out with the rainbow armband and his speech on inclusivity was him taking the moral highground I guess.

Anything to get an edge before the fight.

Fully agree.

Remember the time when only “big” fights were PPV?

Amazes me that some still use someone’s sexuality as a slur against them.
Wasn't Joe Root accused of being gay v the West Indies a few years back ?
The audio is about somewhere. Joe’s response was very good, educated & probably made the bowler wish he’d kept his mouth shut.

Neither of them have done themselves any favours.

Juniors done alright out of it tbf. It’s not like the city of Liverpool was going to be behind him anyway.

No one likes him and he’s managed to somehow make someone most people would of wanted to win look like a an utter Tw@t.

Plus I’m actually contemplating watching it now when I had no intention before 😂 calling someone out for cheating on their wife is next level to the usual boxing needle. Smith could end the week getting chinned, divorced, and alienating the LGBT community all in one weekend.

Looking forward to seeing Frazer Clarke.

He knocked out an old work mate of mine on a night out lol

Just to be clear this was years ago.
