Michael Ball...

Why not indeed.... With Mills & St Ledger by no means certain, Vitor's return in the balance and Hobbs waved out the door we're not exactly spoiled for choice at the back. Known to Sven, solid enough, let's see if he's still got hunger to play. Carr hadn't had a club for a while and look how his career took off again.

who is 'Carr'?

Former Manchester City defender Michael Ball is training with City.

The 31-year-old left-back is a free agent and has linked up with City for pre-season in the hope of securing a contract with the club.

Ball has not been with a club since leaving Manchester City in July, 2009.

He had a brief spell training with Wigan Athletic in January, 2010.

Ball played for City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson when he was in charge at Eastlands, and Eriksson included him in his first England squad which faced Spain in February, 2001.

He picked up his one and only cap in that game.

The Liverpool-born defender has also played for Everton, Rangers and PSV Eindhoven.

Miguel Vitor's proposed return to City has been cast in doubt after he was included in the Benfica first-team squad for pre-season.

City had been trying to persuade Benfica to allow the centre-back to return for another season-long loan, but reports in Portugal suggest that deal has been placed on hold now as they may decide to keep Vitor.

Was a decent player a few years back! 2 years is a long time out of the game.

Be decent as a back up if fit.

In an interview on Foxes player yesterday, Sven said that he was hoping to offer Ball a contract - he's been so impressed with him in training. He also said he was seriously thinking of giving Tunch a new contract - because he's also looked so good since returning to training.

I checked on Wikipedia - and apparently Ball hasn't played a first team match since January 2009 (he got knackered in a game for Man City then). He had an operation on his knee (left patella tendon) as a result and didn't train for 9 months. His contract finished with Man C in July 2009. After recovering, he did have trials with Wigan and Blackpool, but nothing came of them.

IF Sven signs him, I guess that's the last we'll see of Bruno. No surprise I suppose, he was always likely to be on his way (back to Switzerland or somewhere similar) - I think he's been quoted as saying that he wants to relocate back on the Continent, for family reasons.

Sven built a good emergency squad out of whatever loanee's he could get last season and got us near to the play offs after that abysmal start that left us looking at relegation rather than promotion, this season he is building a squad that can get us into an automatic spot and that is going to take having a number of squad players to cover for injuries and suspensions.

Sven said yesterday on BBC radio, that if Ball could come back and earn a contract it could be our best signing. Great experience, fantastic left foot, can play centre half, was Svens word.

By best maybe he meant the cheapest that could turn out to be a great backup ? :dunno:

He's put on a fair bit of weight since he sang "love changes everything"

Sven commented on that and said he's starting to loose weight.

Sign him today sven, this quietness is boring me...

Yeah, some of us have become signing addicts in recent days. We feel bereft without seeing a pick of the latest signing posing on the pitch with a City shirt..lol
