shiv Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Would like him to stay and maybe help out with coaching the youth players.
paul82 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 cheers boys im also a mate of varneys whos recently joined pompey so should be interesting this season
The Doctor Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 That goal against forest last year. Mental celebrations. too right.
SemperEadem Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Think if I remember correctly he made a great goal line clearence at Sheffield United.
Happy Fox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 If Oakley does move all the best for the future that goal against forest will long live in the memory
IronHidez Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Stuck with us thick and thin Part of the squad that destroyed League 1 and Nearly got promotion last term Would be a shame to see him go to Coventry but I am sure Sven would line up a replacement (Hargreaves)
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 hope so hes garbage hes a decent player for his age...had some good games last season. It's his last season i think so he wont go...
The Voice Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Matt has been a great player very dedicated and a proper professional , but for me not a player to be in a promition chasing championship side at this stage of his career. I hope he does move on but not in a bad way, so he can get a game each week, not a lot of point a man of his age sitting on the bench he needs to pla(i know from experience) good look matt you have been great, but go and get a regular game
MPH Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 We won't sell him to a championship rival! It depends in what context you mean 'rival' They'll be no threat to us this year..... he's served us well and is maybe settled in the midlands having played for Derby before us.... seems like a sensible move for him really...
foxyfoxy Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Would like him to stay and maybe help out with coaching the youth players. Think thats a great idea, a really good role model
The Voice Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 quote name='foxyfoxy' timestamp='1310164844' post='1916447'] Think thats a great idea, a really good role model Good shout sir
MikeyT Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 He's been a good servant to the club since his arrival, despite a few people not rating him this past year or so. If he was to go i would wish him all the best, just hope it wouldn't be Cov.
cc_star Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Sven's signed him up to a new contract & he's well liked & respected in the dressing room, not to mention he can more than do a job for us on the pitch We need strength in depth to have a chance of promotion, and Oakley certainly adds to that Would be foolish to sell him, in what is going to be a very long & difficult season, however if he wants first team regular football & one final move/signing on fee then I won't begrudge him that & I'd say good luck to him, but IMO we need him & plenty of quality players for the big push
shen Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Derby, Leicester and Coventry? Only Forest to go to make it the perfect 'betrayer' CV
Jimmy Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Derby, Leicester and Coventry? Only Forest to go to make it the perfect 'betrayer' CV he'd need Pompey too to betray the Saints fans
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Sven's signed him up to a new contract & he's well liked & respected in the dressing room, not to mention he can more than do a job for us on the pitch We need strength in depth to have a chance of promotion, and Oakley certainly adds to that Would be foolish to sell him, in what is going to be a very long & difficult season, however if he wants first team regular football & one final move/signing on fee then I won't begrudge him that & I'd say good luck to him, but IMO we need him & plenty of quality players for the big push if the wurzels want £7 mill for Maynard, then surely Oakley is worth £10 to £12 Mill ?
accessory Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Think if I remember correctly he made a great goal line clearence at Sheffield United. It was - last few minutes too.. People forget he was bought in 08 by Holloway wuth the aim of launching a late playoff bid. That didn't exactly go to plan did it? Suffice to say that apart from his debut (against Cov, ironically enough) he didn't exactly shine in his first season. He did well in League 1, but so did Morrison, Hobbs and Fryatt and they've all moved on. If he wishes to go somewhere where he's guaranteed a regular starting place, then let him, even if he ends up at the sky blues.
Father Ted Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 I would offer him the coaching role vacated by dietmar hamann as player/coach.
accessory Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 I think he'd rather spend time on his business than study for coaching badges, although if Sven wants to give him a coaching role, he may be tempted by the offer.
RyanB89 Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Doesnt seem very likely, wouldnt really care if he went though.
PeterTaylorsApprentice Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Won't happen, Oakley wants to stay here, to see out his final year, and then, maybe stay on for another year.
KFS Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 People tell me he scored against Forest, but all I remember is just bundling a massive group of lads behind me!
