ThurnbyLodgeFox Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Stringer just confirmed Matt Mills is our new captain
cc_star Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Fair enough thought Wellens was named club captain before the RM game
Petchy Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 I'd like to see what the situation is when King and Mills both start, I think Mills would still get the armband though.
ThurnbyLodgeFox Posted 6 August 2011 Author Posted 6 August 2011 Stringer just said he IS captain whether King plays or not
FrankieADZ Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 good move imo, leader on the pitch and is vocal enough to tell it like it is. which is what we've missed for donkeys year.
ramadaone Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Top choice - man is a born leader Not convinced Wellens will be a regular starter when all the new boys are fit anyway Looks like Rotherham could be facing a fair few players with a point to prove which is great news if you are going to watch
Petchy Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Stringer just said he IS captain whether King plays or not Stringer's said a lot of things... but I think Mills will remain captain anyway.
Fox92 Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 good move imo, leader on the pitch and is vocal enough to tell it like it is. Didn't seem like it today.
ozleicester Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Didn't seem like it today. Really? thought he wasexcellent today, always shouting and was there when needed and played it tough too. Surprise surprise...good decision by Sven
Fox92 Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Really? thought he wasexcellent today, always shouting and was there when needed and played it tough too. I don't think he talked more than the likes of Wellens. I thought he should have stepped in when Bamba was frustrated with the referee. Might be because he has just joined the club or something like that. I expect him to be excellent over the season though, as he was for Reading.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Hmm comes to us and straight the way is captain, good player but straight the way as captain! prefer it to be wellens with mills as vice tbf but in sven we trust :scarf:
ajthefox Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 I'd like to know how many Reading games everyone who says he is a "born leader" etc etc have seen. From the way so many seem to be saying this or at least that he should be Captain it seems like everyone has seen him play no end. He might well be a great captain but for me this move is wrong on principle. You don't let someone waltz into the side and pick up the armband, they have to earn it. Mills hasn't.

Fair point actually. He didn't look like a 'born leader' today. This does not in any way lower my view of him. I do think he is a fantastic player, one of the divisions best defenders, but I would like to have seen Wellens be named captain.
Corky Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 I don't have a problem with it, he has captaincy experience and knows what the job requires.

Babylon Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Fair enough thought Wellens was named club captain before the RM game Maybe Wellens is Club Captain. There can be club captains and team captains., as we had before when Oakley was club captain but the armband had been handed to king during games. Team captain does the leading on the pitch, club captain does the leading off it being a link between players and coaches etc. It's not unheard of.
