fox ache Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 . Returning to the referee, Vassell unquestionably risked a sending off with vigourousness of his tackle but I'm not at all sure the referee wasn't completely conned and took the first chance he had to even the situation up.
m00nie Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Pantsil took his chance well from what looked like a rehearsed free kick and Leicester's defence, impressive to a man, looked like they could contain Coventry til the end of the season without conceding or even getting anywhere close to our goal. .
fox ache Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Totally agree with that comment.....Ref was useless. Sorry lads, but a "Cov mate" of mine insisted that the Cov support thought they were playing tomorrow!!!!!
LoughboroughFox Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 for a team with about 7 new players gelling together, it was a great result, not pretty at times but 3 points we have! still needing a proven goalscorer but to win away with a clean sheet is a great start! not going to get to excited yet, but surely a near perfect start!
Yojoe36 Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 The opposition have 10 men for 20 odd minutes, before you have a man sent off. And you have a man sent off. All above all, your favourites to go down Whoooooops
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 ****ing dreadful ref. Deserved win should have been more but I'd take 1-0 every time. Bamba, Fernandes and Abe all impressed, Nugent worked hard.
Haydos Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Right. I have no idea what people were expecting here (Thracian, I'm looking at you). Last season we often folded away from home and it played a huge part in our missing out on a playoff spot. We had 7 (?) new signings on the pitch today, one who hasn't even had a full weeks training under his belt and it's our first game of the season. Away. At a team that we have no luck at. Who do well on the opening day for some reason. I'd have taken a 1-0 1000 times out of 1000. Some people will never be happy. If we addressed every grievance of every poster on here we'd be better than Barca. Please come back with a sense of perspective.

ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 One thing that is apparent in all the photos... empty seats!! That is an appalling turnout from Cov's point of view! Cracking first day result, would have taken that score however we played! We needed to get off to a good start, the team will take a while to really start clicking so to grab an away win against local rivals after being reduced to 10 men, personally I'm fooking delighted!
thesurftalks Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Shocking ref our sending off upset our game plan. Our defence & midfield are looking good though was a deserved win and maybe a game that we wouldn't have won last season. Cov support & attendance was poor as was the state of the seats which were filthy. I'm sure that once our team gels a bit that we could have a good season ahead of us
Yojoe36 Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Kasper gets speared, then our player gets booked :crylaugh:
Wymsey Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Seems the problem is still upfront? Glad the midfield/defensive roles were organised.
leicesterseddon Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Well. I pretty ill-tempered game really. I thought the first half was poor but it opened up a bit in the second when each side only had 10 men. I really think it's too early to comment on this team - when you lose a man so early on, all your plans and your formation can go out the window. Having said that, we did do well to get through that first half without losing our heads and without losing a goal...although I think we'd all admit that Cov were really, really poor. But...you can never complain with a winning start to the season away from home. Feels like ages since we did that!
HEGGSY Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Loving an opening day win at cov, first of many I hope and tbh its these sort wins that will help us get promoted and do us good in the long run, I and many others I hope would rather see us win 1-0 in a scrappy game as oppose to playing well but not having an end product and ultimately draw or lose Anyway well done lads well deserved and can I just say Fernandes was quality today from what I heard
Happy Fox Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Gelson Fernandes really impressed me today, he stifled the opposition, and performed remarkably well, the ref and the linesman had a shocker hopefully in the coming weeks we have better officiating, throughly enjoyed the game as a whole, atmosphere was really good, great goal by Peltier, great start to the season
AyewJoking Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Always important to win your first game. I feared the worst when I saw Vassell had been sent off after 11 minutes.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Excellent. Already got 3 points on the board. Thought everyone played well. Was suprised with the starting lineup tbh, but it worked. Both sendings off were correct. Most pleased with the clean sheet. We will improve with every game too, so it was a promising start. Nugent, when supplied, looked dangerous. Missed a sitter but any other day would have scored. Superb header off the post too. Kasper deserves a mention, dealt well with a couple of long range efforts which Weale probably would've missed. Blue Army - superb.
Brown Fox Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Todays defensive performance was superb. Sven said on the radio afterwards that he was looking to be cautious and solid and that's exactly what we did. Bamba was exceptional as was Konchesky. Fernandes was on a whole other level to everyone on the pitch. He was incredible. Last season was full of defensive mistakes and having a soft backbone. Today we showed we can win gritty and ugly and get stuck in. We may not have been great in an attacking sense but away from home I don't mind that as long as we are solid and reliable at the back we can easily nick a goal. Very happy with the performance today.
MrSpaM Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Konchesky would have got man of the match for me, really impressed
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Key moments Danns celebrating like tribal warrior on his own infront of the fans when we scored. Gally skankin Bamba at end of the game.
lcfcjim Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 One thing I noted today, which many people on here will love, was the passion shown by the players! Especially after the goal - was brilliant to see!
Guest Col city fan Posted 6 August 2011 Posted 6 August 2011 Loving an opening day win at cov, first of many I hope and tbh its these sort wins that will help us get promoted and do us good in the long run, I and many others I hope would rather see us win 1-0 in a scrappy game as oppose to playing well but not having an end product and ultimately draw or lose Anyway well done lads well deserved and can I just say Fernandes was quality today from what I heard My summary of today: 1. Kasper looks rock-solid... the bollockings he gives the defence are very amusing. He seems to ooze confidence which is in marked contrast with Weale. 2. The defence look far more organised and I think that having the experience of Konchesky is gonna help here 3. The midfield were superb today IMO. Wellens ran the game, Abe and Fernandes got their toe in time and time again to break-up the Cov attacks 4. Im not sure where Danns was playing? Was he just off Nugent, or on the wing? 5. Nugent, despite putting-in soooo much effort, again looked very isolated, especially in the first half. I'm not knocking him at all, but if Sven wants to persist with having one up top, this needs to be a player who can effectively make goals for himself... ie. someone who can beat the defender and slot it home.. I like Nugent but I'm not sure that he's gonna do this consistently enough. All in all, a very solid performance..they very rarely threatened us and Danns could have toed-in a couple if he were just a yard quicker. Good start
