I'm not calling for svens head... That would be ridiculous..

However, to say that any new manager invariably needs a new season to get success is simply not true... There have been quite a few managers who have come in early or even mid way through the season and turned a poor side into a much better one pretty quickly... I know what you are saying but don't cloud everyone's judgement with what, frankly, isn't true

New manager needs time..especially if the goal is something like promotion! Almost always thats the case, we have an internally acclaimed manager so request you to be supportive of the team atleast until Dec! You have mentioned elsewhere that you would give the manager time till Dec and thats reasonable even for a critic like you, so you should be positive until then.

Frankly, sacking Sven would be the wrong thing to do in my view. If we dont get promoted at the season end, his contract doesn't get renewed and we find another manager. But thats another major rebuilding job since most of the players we have signed are here as much to play under Sven as they are for the money/winning etc.

On the subject of the best clubs having long term managers well... Who?

With the exception of Sir Alex I cannot think of any other club, over recent times, who have stuck long term with their managers?

Barcelona got rid of tons of managers before they finally discovered Guardiola... Real Madrid have been forever changing their bosses... Chelsea, Liverpool, etc...

The Italian clubs are renowned for manager rotation, even when their existing one has won everything he can (mourinho at inter, for example)

Even arsenal with wenger have won nothing for six years!

Which club over recent years, excepting man utd, have either stuck long term with their managers AND won anything with them.

It just don't happen anymore. Maybe you are right and maybe it should.. But it's become increasingly rare

He has the season, everyone knows that.

I'm totally behind the guy but is very hard trying to get inside his head sometimes, no idea what he thinking or trying to achieve with the formation as he continues to play something that him simply hasnt planned for in terms of player personel. One player nets a hat trick V aleague 2 side then finds himself on the left wing 2 levels higher 3 days later....

It seems he is just trying to flood the squad with as many quality players as possible and just hope it somehow comes together on the pitch.

It doesnt matter to him really though, if it does fail he leaves having earnt another fortune and steps into another big money job for next season. He can't lose.

We're definitely not guaranteed promotion, QPR were biggish spenders for a few years and they didn't get promoted until they had a good core that spent a couple of years together and thats what we need, we'll be in the Premiership by the 13/14 season no problem.

Quarter of the season is long enough to gauge the direction we're going in and to make a decision either way then. If we're not on the upward curve by then it will be too late, as it was when Sven took over last season.

We have played 3 ****ing games, in which we've only really been as poor as people make out on ONE occasion.

Teams are going to have bad luck/play poorly during the course of the season but we've not even reached one fifteenth of the season yet - there are 43 more games to go so stop acting like it's the end of all things and get behind the team.

As for tickler28 - quite clear you know **** all, First he's been here for 10 months and secondly if you can take a team totally bereft of confidence after a quarter (or near enough) of the season and turn them into play-off candidates, only to miss out with 2 games to go then why the **** aren't you a top-level manager?

Many posters fairly make the point that Sven "saved" the club from the Sousa debacle last season.

But it must also be fair to point out that the current poor form isn't just for the last three games. Since City played Bristol City last season they have only won 5 out of 17 league matches - Coventry, Burnley, Scunthorpe, Watford and Ipswich (last season). The last two games were meaningless end of season fixtures. Hardly anything to shout about

With that record, and the fantastic backing he's had from the ownerd, it's perfectly legitimate to question whether Sven is doing a good job or not.

How long will he be given is perhaps the better question.

The stated aim of this season is automatic promotion - he's not been asked to build an empire or groom a Premier League squad in the making. It's an instant hit that's needed. It's fairly obvious that, should we go up, the squad will be dismantled and rebuilt again.

Ten games takes us to Derby at home, followed by a 14-day break for internationals. Realistically, this might be the tipping point. Alternatively, a further international break follows game 16 (Leeds at home) - so I suppose they could take a view then.

In 06/07, Sunderland and Brum were promoted with 12 defeats each, so a couple of early season fúck-ups doesn't really bother me. Sunderland were dreadful until Xmas as I recall, but they still won the league.

Neither does sacking Sven bother me. A poorly conceived pre-season schedule (not entirely his doing perhaps), a dozen signings accompanied by his admission that he doesn't know who the best ones are, and an unhealthy obsession with passing the football doesn't give me the impression that Sven's really come to terms with English League football yet.

Let's say Leeds at home.... If we've chalked up 7-8 defeats, he'll probably go around then. It's not as if there aren't plenty of alternatives with good League credentials who could do a job for us for 7-8 months until May 2012.

No-one deserves the sack in August (except Martin Allen, for whom it should be the law). Hopefully he'll play a blinder on 31 August and things will settle down thereafter. But if you think he 'deserves' the season or should be allowed to 'build for the future', get real. We don't inhabit that world anymore.

Sven KNEWW he was good, dont understand what the board were thinking. all this crap about hes only on a 1 yr deal is stupid!!! we would have got him for 4 yrs, after we get promotion he is worth £18m after scoring 15 goals. So now when you think we were quibbling over £3-4m it seems so stupid, especially going back to them with the same deal 3 times. The Thais haven't spent all this money for a playoff place, it is automatic promotion, Sven has to deliver it is as simple as that, or he will be sacked

I agree that this thread is a little pre-mature as if we win the next two games things could be completely different, however after heavy investment into the squad i am sure the owners being businessmen will be looking at a plan b if things get worse!
