Yakubu's problem wasn't quality, it was consistency. He couldn't perform game after game and in half of them he may as well have not been there. Beckford hasn't been good at all but I don't miss Yakubu. If he consistently banged in the goals, game after game, then he wouldn't have ever come to a Championship team. You know, for the kind of work that most fans don't seem to notice unless the player is scoring hat tricks every week or running around like Martyn Waghorn. And putting subjective opinions aside - the fact of the matter is this; for us he scored 11 goals in 20 matches, and for Blackburn, so far he's scored 11 in 12. That's an excellent record, whichever way you want to look at it. Nevertheless, I'm not ruing the missed opportunity to get Yakubu back here - mainly because I don't really think he would have ever come back. He's too good for the Championship, and is rightly back plying his trade in the Premier League.

This is costly over time. That's all I'm saying. And BTW, Greg Halford is troubled by everyone, because he's shit. I can tell you in half of his games he caused the opposition no trouble at all and frustrated his teammates. If he's not going to bang in the goals game after game he should offer something to the team when he doesn't. He didn't do that too many times and getting 3s and 4s in one match don't make up for 4 or 5 games of making it difficult for your team.

Bruma wasn't so bad, he scored twice against Watford. And two rather spectacular goals. Remember? Anybody could have scored against watford in that match as well then going by your logic... One is a solid defender, the other a central defensive midfielder who's usually mistaken for a defender.

So if a player is playing for a team that is struggling, the player is bad, regardless of how well they're doing as an individual. Better tell that to Tottenham who signed Parker, Newcastle who signed Ba, Liverpool who signed Adam, Man United for signing Keane etc etc etc as these teams must be unaware that a player is obviously bad if he is playing in a bad team. :frusty:

Fox92 Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 I always liked Yakubu. Ok, he didn't work hard, but he is one hell of a finisher. I would have thought Everton would have kept him, with them having problems up front, but I suppose they couldn't afford his wages and all that. I would have liked to see him back, and he is doing alright in the Premiership again. Just a shame he is playing for a boring club like Blackburn, but it was his choice (I think).

I read that he played for a bad club so it meant he was bad, get you now. I agree he went missing sometimes, but think some of the stuff he does goes unnoticed. Players mark him out of the game a lot giving others a chance to score. Had we not have had him last season, i wonder how we would have finished; probably a lot lower. For a player that scores that many goals i always said and still believe we should have brought him in. Instead we brought in Beckford who has also gone missing in a lot of games but without the goals. At least with Yakubu you know you will get a lot of goals out of him during a season regardless of the amount of games he goes missing in. The same can't be said for the current strike force we have (although i am a fan of nugent). I could have seen Yakubu and Nugent being prolific in this league and believe that we would be far higher in the table if he had bought him and broke the bank for him instead of Beckfors.

I put him in my fantasy football because I knew he'd score goals. He'd work well with Nugent, link up with Nugent, let him do most of the work and then put the ball in the net where it needs to be.

They think that everything revolves around 'graft' and 'passhunnn' ala Steve Howard. I suppose it's all about philosophies of Football, but I think the Yak has shown there are many ways to achieve good things in the game and it's not just all about head down running around like a headless chicken until you are out of puff.
