Yuki Abe!

Now, the scoreline today may suggest another round of squeaky bum time, but really it was one way traffic today. The reason? Gotta be that super Yuki Abe!

Sven played Abe in a more attacking role today, and my god did it pay dividends! Some quality crosses, a newfound energy and the vision to take the pressure off of King as an attacking Midfielder. His first half performance was immense, and i went down the stairs for my pint singing his praises and, I quote, that he "deserved a goal on that display!"

Well, Football's a funny old game, and within minutes of the restart I was going mental and our Japanese friend was wheeling away with his second goal for the Foxes. A header too, surely a rarity for the lad! :D

He was clearly shattered when he came off, and rightly so - Abe put in a real shift today and was rewarded with a clean sheet at one end and a goal at the other. Can't tell you how chuffed I was for him too, this coming in the week I've started taking Japanese lessons at night school! I was grinning from ear to ear for the whole second half. :lei1:

Bottom line, there were many candidates for Man Of The Match today - Vassel and Peltier being my other tips, but for me Abe was simply outstanding. His best game for the City for sure, and a deserved notch for his tally.

Actually if you have a gander at some of the 'best of' youtube clips of Yuki's goals a fair proportion of those are excellent headers.

Among my friends I have suggested for some time now that Yuki has the right attributes to play in a more advanced role. From what I have read elsewhere he has played in those position previously, and its not hard to see why. What strikes me as his best quality is his quick, short, and accurate passing which has the potential to catch defences off guard. He also has a surprising turn of pace and a good footballing brain, and I was really pleased to see him drive at the opposition more today.

I've got to admit that in the past few weeks I have been a bit worried for the guy. The influx of new signings and a couple of sub-par performances at the start of the season has seen people dropping him from their preferred lineups far too quickly in my opinion. For me Alan Young has been as bad as anyone for this, often questioning Yuki's worth to the team. I think any fan of the technical game can see what Yuki offers, and I'm so pleased for the guy that today went well. Let's hope sven took note! :scarf:

Anyone else see he stepped up for a free kick today, But got pushed away by konchesky?

Who hasn't come close to scoring one yet, we really do lack in dead ball situations when Gallaghers not around.

Konchesky should really not take anymore free kicks, they are poor.

Was annoyed slightly at the football league show today making it sound like it was more Brighton than Leicester when in the second half they only really worried me for less than ten minutes and that included four minutes of extra time, other than some pressure after Smeichel made a mess of kicking the ball into touch for Bamba to recieve treatment we we're thoroughly dictating the game and one reason was Yuki playing very well

I'm glad Abe played but I do not like him playing wide right although he had a decent game and scored.

To be fair. he did nearly score in the first half with one that went just wide.

He was played wide in some of his early games for us last season and looked absolutely lost.

Yesterday he combined well with Peltier and the pair of them were really dynamic and very effective down that flank. They complemented each other well, combining in a way that we have not really seen from anyone this season, definitely worth trying again.

The way they covered for each other, the way they attecked and defended as a unit was very impressive, much of our attacking play came down that flank and they were, along with Beckford and Vassell easily our best players going forward.

I thought he struggled in an out-and-out wide role when he first came here, but then he was very new to the club and hadn't settled.

I still wouldn't describe him as a winger but he worked well on the right of that "diamond."

Put in a massive shift yesterday and really deserved his plaudits as far as I'm concerned, I can't remember him putting a pass wayward. In fact, probably the only time I thought he'd actually fucked up in possession he got someone sent off! lol

Sven's got a tough ask ahead to pick a midfield, particularly with Johnson coming back to likely fitness, but I think of the four today it certainly wasn't Abe that should be worried (although I suspect he WILL be a casualty to selection.) I'd personally be dropping Wellens for Danns on the back of today. In fact, I think Danns, Fernandes, King and Abe would be a cracking little diamond to have. One thing's for sure, we've certainly an embarrassment of riches in the middle of the park.

Yuke Abe, as is everyone else, available and in the squad so playing him can't exactly be judged as a master stroke by Sven. However, what matters is that he seized the opportunitywell deserved and has the quality to be in the team. Just another plus really.

Really adjusted to life in England well and he is showing what he is all about, absolutely fantastic player.

And you have managed to work all of that out on the back of the only good game he has had this season. Remarkably perceptive of you!!

The most complete midfielder we've got. Richard Wellens, take note. That is how you run a gig. Heroic performance by Abe. When he plays well, he's phenomenal.

Only good game? Do you watch the same games as we do? He's been consistent and ALWAYS puts 100% in. Tut.

I liked the fact when Pelts went passed him, he didn't leave us exposed and just hung back slightly to cover whilst still offering support to the ball carrier

Yes, most definitely.

In fact that was, by a fair way, his most effective game in a City shirt in some months. I am most certainly not questioning his effort but his effectiveness which has not been good in recent times. Calling him a 'headless chicken' as he tears around in central midfield may be harsh but I can not think of a better phrase.

Yesterday there was so much more purpose to his game, he had a defined role and played it extremely well, the combination with Peltier was first class and our right flank was better than I have seen for a long time, even better (certainly defensively) than when we had Naughton running wild last season.

The other flank was still a problem, Konchesky was solid enough given the defensive support he got from Fernandez but there combination play, particularly going forward was mediocre. Fernandez looked lost on the left and given that Danns has shown some promise in that position, at Forest in particular, it was strange that Fernandez got the nod.

For me the solution is dead simple, Danns and Konchesky sent off to study the video of the Peltier and Abe show and Fernandes in his best position in the center alongside King......

I reckon it was more luck than judgement on svens part. Anyway well played Yuki

He luckily chose to put him in the first 11? A lot of people on here, myself included, would have probably not had him in their first 11 before the match started.
