Number 6 Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Compared to our last away performance surely this was a improvement again?
The Guvnor Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Agree with this Can't believe how bad our free kicks and corners are. Neither Mills or Bamba are dominant enough in the air to do anything with these floated crosses, even on the rare occassion they float into the right place
The Guvnor Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 I concur,Beckford poor falling over and moaning continuously,Fernandes not chasing back when dispossessed, lacklustre performance from too many players. Danns has a bit of flair and that was missing!!!
shiv Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Positives - Clean sheet away from home. Negatives - Shit fans. Newsflash...we are not man united
foxaholic Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 I'd have took that before the game but our attitude, I agree with Thracian - we're not winners. I'll give us the positives in that our defence looked brilliant, Konchesky wasn't bad but he was the worst of the four - and that's being "not bad", Mills/Bamba solid as fvck, Peltier's brilliant, he needs to be an absolute regular. Kasper did what little was required. I think this is where the positives really end. The midfield was pretty hopeless, totally uncreative. Wellens did next to nothing, Fernandes, King and Abe were all pretty quiet too, our most creative player of the day had to be Peltier for me. I thought Beckford looked poor. He needs to start picking up some form because I think at the money we paid, no goals after 3 games is pretty poor, he's not really had many chances though. Vassell wasn't bad but his finishing is appalling for someone who's played for England, his header for all he came close he probably should've scored, and that one just before that which he blazed over, absolutely unacceptable. No composure, no awareness he had no one within 5 yards, just absolute shit. On the whole I'm happy with a point and I'm happy we're the first to keep out their attack, but the manner of it was poor, the second half was just totally negative until 85 minutes, league winners/promotion material do not look better in the first half then take their foot off the gas (of which we didn't bombard them first half, but we certainly didn't go all guns blazing, Cardiff were awful). Sides going for the top two go to places like Cardiff and try to win, our attitude is all wrong. I'll take a point but we need to improve going forward, I think Nugent is needed, fast. I didnt go to the match but if the midfield was so bad how was King made man of the match on the radio and we had much more possession than the home team
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Just got in but wasnt able to watch the game. From what I've read and been told, we could have won, but this time last week I would have taken 0-0 at Cardiff. A clean sheet it very pleasing and to do it at Cardiff where we usually always concede is good. Shame we couldnt have nicked it but a good point I think at the moment. Well it only is if we get something at Boro and beat Derby. That will make a good week. Unbeaten away.
liamsm Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 FFS, why do people still think that Lloyd Dyer is the answer? Where has that come from? i aint heard Dyers name mentioned on this thread
Bugg Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Where has that come from? i aint heard Dyers name mentioned on this thread Sorry mate, was listening to Radio Leicester and just commenting on it.
liamsm Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Also I just want to say it's nice to be on here without people moaning about the ref for a change, who was excellent and barely put a foot wrong. What not booking their players for kicking the ball away (dessent) is excellent
dannythefox Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Lets face it Cardiff are our bogey team we never come away with a good result! If we beat Middlesborough which will be harder than today and then beat derby then everyone will be happy just a shame we could of made 2points up on nearly all the other teams but thats the same old Leicester!
liamsm Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Yeah gotta agree. Don't get me wrong i'm one of the 1st to have a go at referees, but it doesn't half wind me up when we don't win and I come on here and it's the referee's fault we drew/lost according to some people. What so you didn't blame the ref at the Forest game?
lcfc_jme Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Some of the things I've read on here are so fvcking stupid that I've actually felt the need to post. Whilst I'll concede that Cardiff were there for the taking today - 1st half especially - and that we're (today at least) far too pedestrian whilst on the ball, it was far from "shite", "awful", "pathetic", "crap" or "the worst game of football I've ever seen / seen in a long time". Those words describe Watford v Forest last night. We've gone away to a place we're usually total guff at, largely neutralised a quality attacking side and should've won the game, despite not being as pacey or as sharp as we should be. There's no doubt in my mind that had 1, 2 or even all 3 of our late chances gone in, then none of the fvcking detractors would be on here lamenting the display; in fact, I'd wager that the vast majority of them would be on here rimming a "quality away performance", stating that "we battered Cardiff" and that we were "finally beginning to hit form". The fickle nature of football fans - especially an ever-increasing number of ours - is fvcking absurd. A clean sheet away against a side which most people seem to agree will be there or there abouts come the end of the season can never be viewed as bad, shite or whatever else the pessimists would have you believe. Yes, there's room for improvement going forward, but we still created 5 clear chances which would more than likely have rippled the back of the net on another day. Infact, to play as and create the opportunities we did for 65 minutes of the game with so many players playing below their best (a huge understatement for Beckford and Wellens, who were fvcking woeful; Fernandes also quite a way below par) is actually a sign that we're going forward as a team. Yes, we were poor for half of the 2nd half, but anyone believing Cardiff were going to come out at home for that 2nd half and be as dreadful as they were for the first 45 minutes is a fvcking imbecile. Earlier this season and indeed right the way throughout last season we'd have capitulated and conceded twice or more during that period. Mills' superb block aside we didn't really even seem that stretched. Nice to see this place has become more tolerable anyway and that our fans have not developed Villa's "MASSIVE club" complex.

liamsm Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 I didnt go to the match but if the midfield was so bad how was King made man of the match on the radio and we had much more possession than the home team you need to watch a game and listen to the radio at the same time, then you will understand, they seem to watch completely different games to me
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 This was a good point, that ought to have been three, with an awful miss by Vassell. Overall a pretty solid performance, with Mills and Bamba outstanding. King and Wellens were pretty poor throughout, and really ought to be dropped.
GH1 Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Beckford will score lots of goals but does prefer to be part of a two up front. If you remember trawling through the Everton pages when we were signing him a lot f them said that Moyes left him up there on his own and it docent get the best out of him. At Leeds he was paired up front Beckford + Nugent = Goals.
Matt Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 What so you didn't blame the ref at the Forest game? No. I actually made a thread calling for people to take their blue tinted glasses off. Yes he gave them a peno, I'm 99.9% sure if it happened the other way round our fans would be shouting for a peno, Schmeichel throwing the ball away for a red card? Harsh, although at the time I thought he had thrown it out to the touchline, watching back again, he didn't, did that lose us the game? It led to us losing the game but it didn't lose us the game, poor defending and poor goalkeeping did, not helped by the referee but the draw, lack of discipline after being 2-0 up was not soley his fault. marbelladave Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 No chance of getting to the game today, but I did get to see it on TV, for what it was worth. At the end of the day we got a drawer against a very poor Cardiff side who were decimated by injury, we did that because 3 or 4 of our players showed a bit of class, however briefly. As we have seen so often this season, we were poorly set up, virtually our entire midfield trying to play in the wrong positions and we had little idea of what we were doing. There was ample opportunity to put Cardiff to the sword but we simply did not have the edge to do so. The Peltier / Abe act down the right was reasonably effective but they hardly had any ball to work with, Abe then started straying inside in search of the ball and with Fernandez doing pretty much the same from the outset any shape we had was lost. Wellens and King, were in their different ways, almost completely useless, Wellens thinks he is Xavi (either one) but is actually ka-ka and King has none of the creative skills required of an attacking midfielder playing at the point of the diamond. We have a very decent defensive midfielder in Fernandez and a good attacking one in Danns, any chance of them being given a chance in their 'proper' roles?
Bluebirds Boyo Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Draw was roughly fair, I guess. Both sides were poor, but the ref didn't seem to want to let anyone play football anyway. Probably wouldn't have bothered playing two holding midfielders if we knew we couldn't tackle, but had no choice with the four injuries. You probably should have taken advantage near the end when we were struggling to walk.
somebum Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Beckford + Nugent = Goals. Still waiting for the magic formula?
acooling08 Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 A good performance today. Another point and unbeaten in 5 Really? I thought both teams were defensively solid but woeful going forward.
Guest Col city fan Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 On a positive note our back four is starting to pick itself. The understanding between Sol and Mills is beginning to come and Pelts/konchesky looking more assured. Despite criticism I actually don't think that this team is too far away from being a side who can push for honours. I suggest we must attack teams with more gusto and width. Time after time today I was screaming at the TV for the lads to get forward more quickly and with more purpose. Only to see the likes of wellens and Fernandes to slow the fookin play down again and pass sideways. IF we get more width and pace onto the flanks we can push on. But I don't see Sven wanting to change this crazy policy of filling the team with central midfielders.
ealingfox Posted 25 September 2011 Posted 25 September 2011 Say what you like about poor performances, I didn't think we were that good today but thought we looked comfortable in a fixture where we very rarely see any joy. Mils summed it up after the match for me, if we are winning our home games and picking up points on the road, we will obviously be up there come May. I saw more progress today but bar will need to be raised for Wednesday.
