nuttytimmy Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 Late on here this weekend after a great session that ended in the early hours. Composure, control... Our best performance under Eriksson and his best result (we put 5 past Doncaster last term but conceded). I'm delighted with the way the defence has come together and Mills has finally come into form and showing us why he's been selected as skipper. It was great to give Frankie and Dyer a run out and they did not disappoint, doing the job they were exactly intended to do - and grabbing a bonus goal between them. As ever, more detail on my blog. I'm proud and chuffed to be a City fan this morning.
Salieri Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 Just watched the highlights on the FLS, love how Nugent runs straight over to the derby fans with his finger on his lips The goal itself was sublime. Nice quick ball from Fernandes and the control from Nuge was even better than the finish.
Ric Flair Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 You're on a different planet... I've never ever said a bad word about King, never would... take a look through someone else's post history to slag them off if you want So, unfortunately it's your comment that's embarrassing. Haha. tw@ Shit, sorry mate I got you mixed up with someone else.
sphericalfox Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 The goal itself was sublime. Nice quick ball from Fernandes and the control from Nuge was even better than the finish. What was great about the goal wasn't just Fernandes, but the passing just before it. Abe to Vassell then to Fernandes to just nicely lob it over the defence. Nugent took the ball beautifully and then it was a matter of excellent finishing. Top quality!
The Doctor Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 Just watched the highlights on the FLS, love how Nugent runs straight over to the derby fans with his finger on his lips I remember him doing a similar thing to us last season after he scored for pompey - does like to antagonise the opposition fans that boy. Now then, how do I record parts of that down on to my computer (for the Steve Messi moment)

thybluefox Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 Fantastic performance. For me though the exciting thing is that we didn't get out of 2nd gear for most of the 2nd half, as a team they still have much more to give. We really missed Nugent over the last few games too, and the thought of him and Beckford makes me moist.
cc_star Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 Watching it again. It's awesome But, were we that good, or was it like the 1st 45mins last season at their place and it was they were that bad? It think, given that Derby had a 20min spell 'on top' along with supposedly more possession in 2nd half and we knocked away all their efforts with relative ease, it's us who were that good
marbelladave Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 For an educated man you sometimes really don't get it dave. I've been saying all fortnight that I was hoping Sven got these last three games spot on.. And he did. You can't go to Cardiff and borough away and play the same way we did yesterday.. They won't let you mate. You have to vary your game plan according to the needs of the fixture. We ground out solid results away and then topped it with a good, attacking display yesterday. 'Top' marks for such management.. You expect us to provide attacking flair week in week out.. It won't happen... No........Like many others on this board you need to look at what I have actually posted, not what you think I have said. I have never called for us to 'provide attacking flair' every week. I am, and always have been, quite pragmatic as my repeated calls for us to play two defensively capable holding midfielders (Fernandes and King are my choice) prove. Sadly, I have been unable to get to any of our last 3 games, though I did see the Cardiff game on TV. What I saw there was pretty much what I have seen all season (I have seen all our other league games), and irrespective of the result I have seen a team of very decent individuals mostly performing way below their capabilities, primarily because they have been playing in odd positions and without any decent organisation. This has been a consistent problem in every game we have played this season, what has varied from game to game has been the individual performances of our better players, when a couple or three of them play well (Danns and Fernandes against Forest for example) we play well, for a spell at least, and get a decent result, if not then we lose. Simple as that. Against Cardiff (and I believe 'Boro too) the players that stepped up were all in our back 4, our midfield was pretty lacklustre so we posed no real threat going forward. It is this inability to take the game to the opposition even when the opportunity is there for us to do so is what I have been complaining about.
Guest ttfn Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 The first goal we scored was unbelievable. One-touch passing with volleys and a chest down from Vassell. A Barcelona-style goal.
Raj Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 anyone get one of them video jpeggythings fore the goals please???
Callabinho Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 We were awesome! I dont care what the pessimists say! We played brilliantly, we made a good derby side look poor!
nuttytimmy Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 Shh, I've ripped the highlights. Not the highest quality, but nonetheless watchable (like how an old VHS is watchable). It's recorded from a camera pointing at my monitor, because that's how sophisticated my IT setup is.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 The whole team was awesome yesterday, and were worthy winners. We are now producing confident, and quality brand football, and certainly have the ability to make the Premiership, automatically, if we sustain our current form. Very well done lads, and of course Sven. :appl:
Number 6 Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 Where does Sven get this cheeky tie from? Want me one of them but can't see it in the online megastore.

Did anyone also see bamba having abit of a set to with Dyer after he came on as sub? Im sure i didnt dream it(not that i would dream of 2 black lads having a set to!) but it seemed as if a few of the lads had to have a word wiv bamba to calm down> No big deal as its good to see ABITof taht now and again!
Corky Posted 2 October 2011 Posted 2 October 2011 Absolutely delighted with the result, scoreline was possibly flattering on the second half display but first half we were superb, played at a high tempo and the midfield controlled their area far better than previously. Nugent being back was a bonus and he took his goal brilliantly, after an excellent move up the pitch and lovely ball from Fernandes. Vassell added a deserved second before half-time and we weren't quite as fluent after the break, however I was pleased with our defence again, who restricted Derby to long-range efforts. Konchesky in particular was outstanding. Sven made three good substitutions, Schlupp got a goal which will boost his confidence no end, Dyer gets a goal and Howard, who got an assist and had a nice run before having his shot saved. This pushed our performance up again and we finished the game very strongly. In a way it was slightly disappointing that we didn't go all out for a fifth, but four will certainly do. Two week break before three matches in six days. We'll need all the squad available and it was great to see the fringe players coming on and making an impact. Cracking evening.
