Post Match - Derby

Fair enough. So could you possibly stop massively over-reacting when we don't play Barcelona-esque football week in, week out?

I'll react as I like and if it does anything to encourage the sort of football on view today I'll be more than pleased, as I'm sure will a good few others who have tried to encourage the same approach.

All today did was demonstrate what we should have been trying to do for years.

EDIT: Don't believe all that 'Rugby city' bollocks. Tigers are the Man U of the rugby world, a lot of their fans aren't even from Leicester in the first place.

It is bollocks, we're both.

We should embrace the Tigers anyway, we have the most successful Rugby team in the country on our doorstep, it's impressive that both teams have so many fans.

Derby don't have any other sort of team to compete with and they still don't get better support than us.

It doesn't do anything to encourage it. You just look like a miserable old man who likes to think he knows better.

What the fvck has his age got to do with anything?

Your post just makes you look like a cvnt who's trying to score cheap shot points.

I watched Tigers play Sale last season and never again. What a totally boring experience. And what sort of competition decimates the best teams of their internationals and still purports to run a fair and worthwhile championship?. Hell, don't the league winners even have to play-off to decide who actually takes the title? What sort of nonsense is that?

From all I saw against Sale even internationals couldn't catch the ball, never mind pass it or kick it accurately. it was such a shambles there were even players warming up behind the posts and for all their glorious history it seemed the fans had but one chant .... Tigrrrrrrrrrs. Highly imaginative!

Yes, I know of the Tigers' record. But right now they're struggling to beat anyyone and even shipped 50 points at home a week ago.

If I were a Tigers fan I'd say it was a rip-off having to watch half a team for a good chunk of the season. And Iknow several regular Tigers fans who'd agree with that.

Good luck to the Tigers. They've done the City proud in terms of trophies. But while I accept that the big matches might be entertaining, even exciting at times it will never even nearly replace football for me. And today gave an excellent reason why.

The Sale game was really awful to be fair .... personally I'll watch the Rugby if there's no football .... but then it's reasonable opinions like this that kills threads!

I've just had had a look at the boards after several hours of celebrating to find people banging on about Leicester Tigers - what the fvck?

It wouldn't take much for anyone to "know better" that what this club has delivered in terms of exciting football over the last 10 years.

And how the hell do you know what anything said on here encourages? You know and I know these threads are read by all sorts of people from within the club as has been demonstrated countless times.

It may be that the crowd's singing or silence doesn't change the course of a match either.

But I don't hear you suggesting they all shut up.

As for me being miserable i know the sort of managers you've backed on here in the past - and how often those same managers have produced next to nothing in terms of entertainment. Well, you're welcome to your view but I'll stick to mine thanks. And today's performance only reinforced my beliefs.

I thought we'd win as I've said all week but pleasantly surprised as to the manner of victory.

Great to see schlupp and Lloyd Dyer come on and score.. Even Thrac and Marbella are gonna find it tough to knock this performance today.

As I hoped, two good away points followed by a super win at home.

Well done Sven and all involved.

I had family business to attend to today so not only could I not get to the game, but TV was impossible as well.......:frusty:

So, how did we play? How did we set up, what made the difference today?

Just read through the thread and I havn't got a clue how we played, could really use one of Marbella's match reports, the bugger is never around when you need him......:dunno:

Pretty sure 20 minutes into the second half the second half stats read, Leicester 40%, Derby 60%...

Still, a classy performance. Gutted Lloyd bagged that 4th as I had a bet on us to win 3-0!

Arrrrr one mans pleasure is another mans pain. Next time bro.

Overall we played very well - a short spell in the second half where derby started to threaten but good value for our win.

Set up in the 4-4-2 diamond again to start - looked like Gelson and Abe were rotating the base spot and Danns + King at the point - not a bad idea, derby could never really settle to the players changing roles at will.

As for making the difference - I'd say it was the speed at which we moved the ball on through the midfield, keeping the Derby defence on the back foot.

Nugent made a difference as well - he offered an outlet from long balls and goal kicks, and produced some excellent hold up play at times. The tactics of Derby made things slightly easier as well - they were not afraid to try and attack, and pushed their defensive line high, only to get badly caught out with a swift counter attack for the first goal.

King was definitely deeper and much more influential as a consequence. Absolutely ripped their defence to shreds with one selfless pass for a disallowed goal but it wasn't just positive passing, it was little give-and-goes to steer us out of trouble, fast moving of the ball in central midfield and even a good share of defensive headers as we pressed high to regain possession.

The defensive understanding seemed to be at its best yet. Someone said Derby had toughened up but they didn't look tough enough to trouble our backline much for all that they did attempt to play quality football. One header by Mills seemed to say it all for the determination of our backline. He rose so high and headed the ball with such power he was almost giantlike.

The final thing was that none of our midfield or forward players seemed slow. Kingy made the ball do the running but the presence of Danns, Fernandes, Abe, Nugent and Vassell gave us lots of energy the consequence of which substitutes Schlupp, Dyer and Howard eagerly took advantage of in the closing stages as Derby visibly petered out.

If there's one word I'd use for today's display it was efforvescent. Apart from the "safety" half-hour at the start of the second half we were fizzing in every phase of play. Our sense of purpose was spot on and we won the ball back so quickly.

What's this? Rock solid defence, midfield wizardry, confident finishing, cracking goals, 10 out of 10s from Thracian.....I must be on the wrong forum.

Maybe this is what "gelling" looks like.

Lucky bastards that went to this game. I didn't even listen to it thanks to a crappy time difference

Nugent on a free sounds like an absolute steal. Mills less so at 5 million but both coming very good.

Excellent stuff

Played excellent, and you know what? Taking nothing away from the lads because they played brilliant, but I don't think that was us at full potential, I think we still have more to show, Derby were poor and we were good but we still have more to show. That's not moaning, slagging the team off, because we played brilliant, just we have more to come. I have to stress that i'm not moaning or slagging them off because some twat will say something implying it.

Can't say alot more really, very happy and proud, and just hoping they can keep some consistancy and carry it on!
