Tielemans63 Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 From the Guardian website: "Eriksson had also become frustrated with the lack of progress and was so upset after Saturday's performance that he called an emergency meeting with the players on Monday morning and told them he was fortunate to still be in a job. He divided the players into three separate groups and asked them to write down why they thought things were going so badly wrong. By that point, however, the wheels were already in motion behind the scenes to remove Eriksson from his position." http://www.guardian....-leicester-city Sounds like things had become really quite desperate at Belvoir Drive. It also suggests that, while his sacking was a huge shock for us, it wasn't for Sven.
fox_in_the_box_8 Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 Wow, that's pretty insane if that's true. Seems almost like he just didn't know what to do, last ditch idea, ask the players! Not the worst idea, but just seems a bit desperate almost. Truly gutted for him
HankMarvin Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 Sven tells Leicester stars: I'd have sacked me too http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Leicester-Sven-Goran-Eriksson-admitted-was-surprised-still-to-be-in-job-just-hours-before-sacking-article819918.html Sven Goran Eriksson has been sacked from his £1million-a-year job as Leicester manager – just hours after admitting he was amazed to still be in charge. Eriksson has paid the price for the big-spending club's dismal start to the season, and former Foxes manager Martin O’Neill has already emerged as the leading contender to replace him. Former England coach Eriksson had called an emergency meeting with his entire Leicester squad on Monday morning and claimed he would have sacked the manager responsible for Saturday's dismal 3-0 home defeat to Millwall if he was the club's owner. Shortly afterwards, the 63-year-old was given the grim news by the club’s Thai owners. However, Eriksson is set for the latest golden handshake of his career - this time for around £1million as he has 12 months remaining on his current deal. O’Neill is the No. 1 choice to succeed the Swede. The former Leicester and Aston Villa manager was initially approached last year, before the appointment of Eriksson. The Ulsterman worked with Foxes’ football director Andrew Neville during his glittering five-year spell, where he won two League Cups, and will be offered the chance to make a sensational return. Billy Davies could be a realistic alternative if O’Neill, who is understood to be in favour of a Premier League job, proves out of reach. Davies, who was sacked by Nottingham Forest in June, is available and has admirers in the corridors of power at the King Power Stadium because of his experience in the Championship. Eriksson will walk away with his pockets full but his reputation tarnished after failing to fulfil the vast expectations of chairman Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn. Leicester coughed up a stunning £12m this summer in an attempt to build a squad capable of reaching the Premier League but Eriksson managed only five wins from 13 Championship games. Eriksson took drastic steps to ease the tension after the Millwall defeat by calling his players into a clear-the-air meeting. There, he admitted he was surprised to still be in charge, made the squad sit through a video nasty of Saturday’s shocking performance and then asked them all the squad to write down what they thought was going wrong. Within hours, he was dismissed from his post, with his assistant Derek Fazackerley also leaving the club. It means Eriksson will leave his third job in England, after his spells with the Three Lions and Manchester City. Bizarrely, he has already been installed as one of the favourites to replace struggling Blackburn boss Steve Kean. * ANYONE FOR SVENNIS? Thracian Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 Sven would have known what was expected and that he was falling short on various fronts. For me he should have changed his coaching staff long ago. Sven has never struck me as being the greatest tactician and it became clear that our team was both failing to deliver the basics, was never 100 per cent committed to attacking a game and was unable to react adequately to inevitable setbacks. If he couldn't oversee improvements in those directions himself he should have made sure he had help from someone who could, but that never seemed apparent. Saturday's ploy of bringing on Dyer but leaving us short of a striker to finish the winger's good work was the latest example of many. Even after so many signings our team was limited - and decidedly lacking in certain areas...as if we'd gone signed available names rather than the components which would make up an effective team. Well, there'll be no hiding place for anyone under MON if he comes. People will very quickly know precisely why they're in the team and what they'll be expected to do. Crosses will be accurate, free-kicks will be dangerous and people will be expected to get on the end of them. In every area we will compete. It won't happen overnight but I don't see our team having balance problems for much longer. Players will be expected to have an effect. It all sounds so obvious but somehow we've made it so difficult for so long. I just hope Martin gets the job, get's the same backing as Sven and doesn't lose patience with the possibilities here.
ithuriel Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 i like Sven, he knew thing's we're not good enough and has not tried to hide behind excuses. sometime's thing's just do not work out. he goes with my best wishes.
flowwolf Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 So he thought he should have got the sack? Maybe he should have done the honorable thing and resigned then instead of waiting for a bloody big payout he clearly does not deserve --Tosser
shen Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Wow, that's pretty insane if that's true. Seems almost like he just didn't know what to do, last ditch idea, ask the players! Not the worst idea, but just seems a bit desperate almost. Truly gutted for him I'd imagine Arsene and SAF would also implore the players to do this kind of soul-searching after their respective defeats at Old Trafford. Would've been interesting to see/hear what they had come up with...
AndyNorway Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Sven is not an idiot, off course he knows he needs to deliver results to keep his job. To have an emergency meeting with the players is not a bad idea, the manager can not turn things around all by him self. I hope we don’t sign a new manager before the West Ham game, we have no chance against them, and if the new manager loses that game the circus continues. I love Sven, but I think he needs a better coach ho to deliver results. Like Hans Backe.
dannythefox Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 When you spend 10m and you dont get results then this is what happens and he knows that ,his win record is 43% which is complete tosh not good enough to get in the play-offs never mind the top 2.
Fox92 Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 5 wins in 13 Says it all really. Exactly. Also take into consideration the millions he spent, and the performances we have seen, I think Sven probably might have understood his position.
flowwolf Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Bet you he won't hand his million quid back any time soon. Fvcking carpetbagger.
Babylon Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 His biggest critics all seem to be exceptionally rude and abusive people... funny that.
He's not bald Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 His biggest critics all seem to be exceptionally rude and abusive people... funny that. His biggest critics are the people who can see him for what he really is a talentless mercernary living off past glory and now he's free to go screw up another club for a huge paycheck.
Babylon Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 His biggest critics are the people who can see him for what he really is a talentless mercernary living off past glory and now he's free to go screw up another club for a huge paycheck. Has he screwed us up? We're two points off the playoffs with 33 games to go... bit of an overreaction.
hairy Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Does this relate back to targets being set by the owners? It wasn't long ago I was reading that they had given him so many matches (6?) to get things running smoothly. Maybe he missed his target and knew it.
Raj Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Has he screwed us up? We're two points off the playoffs with 33 games to go... bit of an overreaction. About 7-10 teams are 2 points off the play offs. we cant keep harping on about that fact. At the end of the day we dont look nowhere like a team who has spent 10+ million in the summer. One good performance all season (Derby) just aint good enough. And surely its better to get rid now whilst we are still in the thick of it especially if he has lost the players etc....???
dannythefox Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Has he screwed us up? We're two points off the playoffs with 33 games to go... bit of an overreaction. We are playing the wrong formation and were not good enough how long do you give him? now is the right time to go 43% win rate is shocking with the money we've spent!
whoareyaaa Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 what about the players that signed due to the influence of Sven? what about that?
foxsake123 Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Let's be honest the only way ha could've got away with spending £10 mill and not achieving anything and then more money had to be spent on putting right the his mistakes was if he worked for Leicester City Council.
Corky Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 His biggest critics are the people who can see him for what he really is a talentless mercernary living off past glory and now he's free to go screw up another club for a huge paycheck. How can you be talentless and live off past glory?
Tielemans63 Posted 25 October 2011 Author Posted 25 October 2011 I think a big negative for Sven is thet he couldn't persuade Tord Grip to join Leicester. He is a highly rated assistant manager and the guy who organised England's training - maybe we'd have been a little bit more organised ourselves if he'd come here as well. Sven's less successful ventures have all occured since TG retired.
Foxblogger Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 When you spend 10m and you dont get results then this is what happens and he knows that ,his win record is 43% which is complete tosh not good enough to get in the play-offs never mind the top 2. Both Nottingham Forest and Reading had a win rate of 43% last season. So if nothing else it is good enough to make the playoffs and certainly not 'complete tosh'.
flowwolf Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Has he screwed us up? We're two points off the playoffs with 33 games to go... bit of an overreaction. Babylon did you see that absolute dross served up as football on Saturday ? We are two points of a playoff position only because the rest are as poor as us not because we are in the chasing pack. And Yes I am bloody angry at Erickson ,He managed to squander a golden opportunity for this club to move forward with a ownership that did every thing they could to equip him with the tools ( money ) to do the job and he fvcked up big time. These owners have had the bottle to say enough is enough while we still have a chance under a new manager to turn it around. They could see what every one else saw on Saturday a team in total disarray going no where fast. Sven's tactical ineptitude beggared belief and his own players new it too.
Burmesefox Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Bet you he won't hand his million quid back any time soon. Fvcking carpetbagger. Nob-end
