People who take life seriously won't enjoy Family Guy.

People who are bored and want something more interesting than that bird playing roulette or selling shit on channel 5 at like midnight, and put Family Guy on, and take it for what it is, a silly, nonsensical piss-take, will tend to enjoy it.

In parts it can be pretty funny. If you watch it with other people it's funnier, too.

Rolling stones are over rated I agree. Two good songs, brown sugar and paint it black. That's it!

And how much of a sell out is mick jagger? Working with that twunt Will.Im.Not and Jennifer HOEpez

Nine classic albums.

Also despite me not being a big fan of his music Will.I.Am is a ****ing genius and an incredibly generous philanthropist. Though the shiteness of working with J-LO I can agree with...

That's not overrated, it's just that morons like it.

Couldn't agree more... although I'd add Gimme Shelter to that.

Maybe it's because I'm a Beatles fan, where they actually made different songs, but all the Stones' song really are a variation on a (not very good) theme... :dunno:

His appearance on Top Gear really opened things up for me. There's more to him than the music, and it's nice that there's people like him in the public eye who stay true to their roots.

I certainly don't take life seriously, but I think the writers of Family Guy are getting away with murder. It just seems like they're a bit slow, or really can't be bothered. It's just like an animated version of the worst Peter Kay routine, like just listing nostalgia is meant to be hilarious, but with horrible drawn out gags (?) that linger for about 5 minutes on one unfunny thing, often at the expense of the disabled. A couple of times, I've seen the horribly inconsistent characters just sing a whole song from a musical word for word, with nothing even intended to be funny happening on screen for the whole duration. It's like an experiment pushing the boundaries of unfunny.

I like all sorts of comedy on telly, from Dad's Army to Tim and Eric, and I've given Family Guy so many chances to make me laugh. I try and work out why it's so popular, but whenever I watch it, I just feel sorry for good writers who are either working hard to make something great, or are just naturally very funny. The writers of Family guy are neither, yet they've struck gold apparently. Turns out you don't have to bother with plot, creative surrealism or developing good characters, because people are more than happy with just being reminded of things from 20 years ago instead.

I agree to a certain extent, but the first three seasons (before it got inexplicably canned about 10 years ago and then came back) were a lot better than the current stuff they're doing. I don't tend to watch it too much nowadays

I can't believe nobody has mentioned this shitcunt yet:

1672.jpg

This overrated talentless fvcktard has been polluting our airwaves for long enough.

To comment on a few others I've seen mentioned:

Kasabian, Muse, Oasis, - I've seen them all live and they have all really impressed me, musically they maybe overrated but they can put on a great show

The Beatles: To truly appreciate the Beatles you really had to be there, some of their songs are still today classed as some of the most beautiful and iconic songs ever, but the songs we hear all the time, have been diluted and imitated so many times that we have lost the true impact they had. Where they really set the mark was in how they changed music, embraced other styles and experimented, there are some seriously weird, experimental songs that really changed people's approach to music.

Bob Dylan: I think anyone seeing him live who is not a fan would be bored out of their tree, I know big fans of Bob Dylan who think he is crap live.

ITV and Lenny Henry: They are widely considered to be utter shite, and yet that is still overrated in my eyes

Nandos/Starbucks/Mucdonalds: Are all utter shite

Family guy is not to everyone's tastes, and I think, like the Simpsons, you have to be a real fan to appreciate some of the jokes, if you only watch a few Simpsons episodes you will not understand all the in jokes. Family guy is like that, but even more so, you have to know of Stewie's genocidal genius and Brian's unrequited love for Louis and desperate attempt to fit in and be accepted and the fact that Meg is just there to be abused. It also tends to push the boundaries of taste of decency, which I like, but not everyone does.

Some of the ridiculous extended fight scenes are just brilliant, I don't know why and I remember watching it with someone who just came out with, "well the writers must be short of ideas" after watching a fight between Peter and a giant chicken for 10 minutes that would rival anyhting in Bond, mistaking a well planned, brilliantly executed and completely pointless fight scene for filler.

Got forced to see him live about ten years ago. He was atrocious.

Part of the problem is that the characters are very inconsistent. This is a great example of bad writing. When a character does or says anything you couldn't imagine them doing, based on how you've already seen them act, it's probably because the writer doesn't understand character development. For example, Stewie used to be a rip-off of The Brain from Pinky & The Brain, obsessed with taking over the world, but they must have ran out of ideas for that character, so they just made him a predatory gay, instead. Even his appearance is stolen. This is Jimmy Corrigan, Smartest Kid on Earth, a character invented before 1995...

I've seen that one with Peter fighting a chicken, and it certainly looked like filler to me. Family Guy is full of these overlong scenes. A shot of someone clutching their knee for 5 minutes, or uncomfortable people creeping away from someone at a snail's pace are the sorts of thing you stick in a show if you're close to your deadline and have no ideas, or you give up and want to go home.

They do push the boundaries of taste, but I really like South Park, Chris Morris' Jam, Tim & Eric and other shows that do this as well. Apart from the terrible writing, I think Family Guy just has a bad atmosphere. It's utterly charmless.

However, I wholeheartedly agree with you about Chris Moyles. Luckiest c*nt on the planet.

The Stewie thing is not that odd, you look at a lot of series and characters and character focus does very often change, especially in comedies, if you remember the Simpsons early episodes it was all about Bart being the bad boy, and now it focusses much more on Homer, and Bart is less the bad boy than the sort of try hard wannabe bad boy. I mean you can pick all kinds of character holes in the Simpsons and in South Park.

If anything Stewie was a very 1 dimensional character early on, and was always the sub plot, whereas now he has as much focus as Peter, the relationship between Stewie and Brian has very often been the focus of a whole show. He is still a genius, but has got over his Matricidal tendencies, which they do actually cover in a few episodes, including when they all think Louis is dead. Unless you have watched every episode in chronological order then you will have missed some of the actual character development.

I am not trying to change your mind about it, I just disagree with you, it is probably past it's best now anyway, but it will still make me laugh out loud more consistently than any other show.

IMO, the point of Family Guy is that the characters and plots are really just a vehicle for lots of individually funny sketches or one liners.

I'm ridiculously cynical about most American humour, but I think Family Guy is one of the funniest programmes ever made. I was skeptical at first, I admit.

A lot of the humour is absolutely biting satire and, admittedly, could sometimes be lost on non-American audiences because of context.

The UK Office is just brilliant and you cannot rate it highly enough, so it is impossible to be overrated, as much as Gervais has been rightly slagged off for being overrated, the UK Office really is TV perfection.

As for any book made into a film, do you mean that the book is overrated or the film? I assume the mean the film is overrated and not as good as the book, but it sounds like you think that any book that has had the audacity to be made into a film is shit.

If you mean the former then I say you are wrong, and what you mean to say is any film made from a book that I had previously read. For example the Bourne trilogy, good films (although I would stick them in here as overrated), never read the books so I don't know if they are better or not.

That's twice i've spelt it wrong lol

Haha I know though I think you are being unfair saying they are overrated.

I have never really liked listening to the Beatles, but I wouldnt say they are overrated as millions of people (and Fox92) absolutely love them. So how is that overrated if so many people like them?

Though its all opinion which everyone is welcome to.

*That is supposed to be London in an annoying London accent, I know if you have to explain it, it probably means it didn't work, but you know there are some foreigns on here who may not get it.

To be fair something can only really be overrated if people like it.
