davieG Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 All these topics re racist, homophobic, fat, ginger chants makes me reflect on the fact that supporting your team used to be much more humorous and not particularly vindictive. Likewise on the pitch there used to be plenty of examples of humorous incidents involving players from both teams. You could pretty much guarantee that something would happen in a game either a funny song or amusing incident on the pitch that would be cause for a laugh, it's hard to remember the last time this happened perhaps the Chris Powell hugging incident although I doubt it pleased the oppo fans, the singing of 'do you work at B&Q' spring to mind but there just seems to be a total lack of 'fun' in the game. Games were still intense but the ability to see the funny side of incidents broke the tension and led to a much more enjoyable time.
Mack Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 To be humorous with your chants requires a degree of intelligence and an understanding of what is funny and not just abusive. All you get these days is .. This is a Shit Hole and You're not famous or worse. Football so often reflects the wider goings ons in society as whole, and with so many undereducated jobless brainless idiots wandering around these days is it really any wonder that our football stadiums are partly populated by them. The one and only time I sat in the Kop at our ground I was unfortunate enough to sit next to two sub human specimens that insisted on singing songs about hitting opposing fans with bricks and other general unsavoury filth. All clubs have their undesirables, lets hope the rest learn not be sheep to the filth.
Darkon84 Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 I've not got alot to say, other than that I agree. When I'm playing, I always try and have a bit of banter or a laugh with the plaer marking me etc. Disclaimer: Racism is not to be considered banter and the poster of this message does not condone it. Bellend Sebastian Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Terrace wit or whatever you want to call seemed to end pretty much overnight with the move to the Walkers (as was), but why that is I haven't got a clue. My favourite Filbo spontaneous chant was 'where were you when Tiffany died?', sung at the visiting Hammers fans a couple of days after the character in Eastenders was killed off. Most of the Kop were singing it, and it was met with a look of complete bemusement. There's not really a response to that, is there?

You say that but at least these morons aren't doing what they are singing about, back in the day songs like 'your going home in a (insert town name) ambulance' could well be true. Yes people may sing stupid soings I'd never forgive racist chanting but there was the same offensive songs sung back in the day aswell as the violence, so I dont agree that it was better back then.

Dont you think with time society should realize it's shortcomings and progress? Lack of education and blind ignorance is the main reason for such unpleasant behaviour in the main, if we lived in an African township with no education etc then at least there would be a reason if no justification. In England in the 21st century there can be no excuse. I'm all for taking the piss and having a laugh but some of it is plain ugly and from the stone age.

Head Honcho Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Leicester fans to Leeds fans-"going down, going down, going down," Leeds fans-"so are we, so are we, so are we," I think it was chanted before this by some other team but I still found it funny.

Marmite Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 I remember at Man City in the FA Cup when Leicester fans singled out a cocky ginger lad giving it the biggun and sang ''Oh Gingers mum is full of cum, oh gingers mum is full of cum ........ There was also a guy at the Cheltenham away game back in the League 1 days and he was wearing a liverpool top under his coat. When the Leicester fans spotted it, we were all singing ''Scouser whats the score, scouser scouser whats the score''
Head Honcho Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 This is quite funny Not the bit at the end obviously!
RobHawk Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 I think the sad thing is that a large percentage of people seem to to have had a huge sense of humour failure over the last year or 2. Add to that the fact that WUMS are getting dumber and things like racism is on the up! All of a sudden nothing can be said thats derogiatory because theres the worry some sad bastard will get offended and report you! I'm sure it will get worse before it gets better!
LCFC FOX Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 I thought at Hull was great when they where singing there's only one greedy bas..... to Nigel Pearson then we replied with and sang the same song to one of there fans and he just took his top of and waved his fat belly around
Guest MattP Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Some of the stuff in Pen 1 was great, vague memory of the Tiffany song Used to enjoy the pisstake gypo song about the peg woman who sold the programs as well even it was slightly cruel. Like someone earlier said, the general intelligence seems to have gone rapidly downhill (throughout the whole of society, just look on most young lad's facebook pages now and have a look at the grammar) now so "This is a shithole" and "Who the fcuking hell are you" seems to be the high end of these days. Shame.
James. Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 League One had its moments although yeah not quite like Filbo. "You're just a small fvcking marrow" was pretty amusing when we were at Colchester stood behind their keeper Dean Gerken. And at QPR one season there were some decent ginger pubes chants aimed at some unfortunate woman steward.
hairy Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 The away match with the waving of the shoes immediately springs to mind.
Guest Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 The away match with the waving of the shoes immediately springs to mind. Sheff U weren't it? And I think we were down to 10 men and a couple of goals down fairly swiftly too. Cracking bit of footwear based shenanigans
Guest MattP Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Sheff U weren't it? And I think we were down to 10 men and a couple of goals down fairly swiftly too. Cracking bit of footwear based shenanigans That was the day Holloway joined in, the day he should have been dismissed. 3-0 down, heading for the relegation area, I look at our manager and he's stood in the touchline waving his shoes in the air. What the fcuk was going on?
Dan Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 I don't understand why our fans nowadays are so unambitious with songs and only interested in generic, repetitive, boring shit songs.

Stadt Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Like the Leeds fans chanting 'Your towin is just full of taxi's!'
The Year Of The Fox Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 Getting a bit misty eyed now the older generation. I believe the song Mack refers to (there once was a poor little cockney) comes from 'back in the day) as was another song which puts the forest fans racist chants to shame, I won't post the full song but 'lick my boots' was the gist of it. So come on, it wasn't all that brilliant back in the day I'm sure, though I agree with you about some of the current chants- 'my garden shed' or 'mustve come on a skateboard' are embarassing
