fleckneymike Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 The 'selling shirts' argument is an old stereotype like foreign goalies being dodgy and players from the continent not liking the cold (ignoring the fact that it does rain and snow in countries other than England). The idea of attracting an 'Asian' market is also a non starter, it'd be like expecting all European's to get excited when a Frenchman joined the MLS. If Yuki was on 'big' wages then that would have been due to the peculiar practice of the player paying his former club a proportion of his wages rather than the buying club paying them a fee. If we do receive a reported £2m then the sale makes more sense than Wellens, Gallagher, Dyer or Danns as I doubt we'd get much for them.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 What has age got to do with it you could say the same for Wellens Well, yes you could!
foxes2011 Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16671180.stm Leicester City's Japanese midfielder Yuki Abe has returned to his homeland, BBC Radio Leicester understands. The 30-year-old made 59 appearances for the Foxes during a near 18-month spell. But his chances of earning a regular place in Nigel Pearson's side faded following the signing of Danny Drinkwater. It is not clear if Abe's former club Urawa Reds have paid to re-sign the Japan international or if his contract has been cancelled by mutual consent.
simtacular Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Goodbye Yuki Good luck for the future and thank you!
funkyrobot Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Being a season ticket holder I've seen enough of him to be confident in saying he tackled well and worked hard, but his passing was poor. I would imagine this signing was encouraged by the new owners to get some Asian interest in the team, but he never made the grade. He turned out to be a bit part player that did a decent enough job at times without pulling up ant trees, I agree with previous comments that had he been John Smith signed from Rochdale he would have been written off long ago. This. Abe proved to be distinctly average at championship level.
foxes2011 Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 think we need to wait for city website confimation first but if the bbc say it then it must be true.
Captain... Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Wow, if true then I'm shocked, but I guess if Nigel has no plans for him then it makes sense for him to go, but considering King's injury and NPs comments that we have a small squad, I am surprised. Good luck Yuki,
thewarmanator Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 BBC website = stringer I think so I wouldn't take it as true just yet
Guest MattP Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Can understand it, must be hard to settle in Leicester coming from a place like Chiba, be like coming back in time.
MrFox781 Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Disappointed to say the least. nigel keeps saying the squad is not big as people think, then why get rid of players. if this is true abe, fernandes, king(injured), wellens not the fittest, we are short of midfeilders. and i still dont know where johnson is. gud luck for the future yuki.
Ashlar86 Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 So wierd he was only in my store last wednesday buying converse .... Got his autograph and shook his hand .... Sad times
kingfox Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Officially confirmed. Totally gutted, loved Yuki.
Jimmy Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Officially confirmed. Totally gutted, loved Yuki. by whom? nothing on the club Website, until its on there its not official
Captain... Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Seems like its going to be- In-Drinkwater, Snodgrass,Morgan Out-Abe,Wellens(hopefully),St Ledger Is there any basis in those in bold or just speculation, is SSL still going or have they patched things up? Also worth considering that Ball, Fernandes, have gone, Bruno has pretty much left, Johnson should be going, I wonder if the owners have said something that they are happy to fund more signings but they are sick of forking out wages on players not even close to playing.
Jimmy Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Pearson said after Forest game about SSL "He's still on the transfer list as I haven't taken him off" seemed to be saying we'll sell if we can sign someone but otherwise he's doing his job and so if needed I'll play him, reading between the lines of the rest of his comments
Ely fox Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 He will not be missed ... every time i have seen him play he has looked average to poor, and he is not exactly a spring chicken. Not the sort of player we need to progress, and frees up some money for someone better, good business all round.
LCFCstriker Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Did a decent job for us. Seems more like he was homesick than anything considering interest from prem clubs. However I would presume NP has someone lined up to replace him considering we're running out of CM
Guest Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Incredible. Small squad, so let a good utility player go.
leicesterisme Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Incredible. Small squad, so let a good utility player go. Small squad? Really?
Fox92 Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Small squad? Really? Yeah, even Pearson said the squad is smaller what people think. And look back over the recent few weeks, we have lost Gelson, Johnson is always unfit, King is injured and now Abe has left. St Ledger is transfer listed, Ball has left, Weale has joined Northampton on loan... Abe was a decent player. I always thought he was our best defensive midfielder and sat in midfield well. Good luck to him.
