Langston Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 I will not hear a bad word about Lauren Laverne. She's no comedian but she is magnificent. As for female comedians, errrr?

ozleicester Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Oi!!! They pay my wages......well in-directly! sorry, didnt realise your were on benefits can you live on 26,000 a year? oops wrong thread
Zingari Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 To be fair to women, us blokes do have quite a good head start on them when it comes to being a bit funny . Lily Savage and Pauline Calf were not just very funny but also very sexy little minxes too . I wonder what happened to them ? Probably happily married mums now .
Bellend Sebastian Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 There aren't that many great female comedians but there aren't many female comedians full stop. I don't think the ratio is any worse than the blokes. There may be loads of male comedians but how many are actually any good? I doubt the ratio of good to shit ones is any better than with the ladies. We live in an age where Russell Howard and John Bishop can earn good livings as supposed funny men, for heaven's sake, so the standard cannot be that high
dave the caveman Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Comedy is a trait developed by males to attract women. Females haven't evolved to be funny because being funny has never been beneficial to their chances of reproducing. Female comedians are a bit like mainstream black comedians in that you know exactly what they are going to focus on as soon as you see them. I wish I was a black, fat, Irish female. I'd basically only have to introduce myself and I'd be a comedian.

Head Honcho Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Iv started watching 10 o'clock live on channel 4 and i find Charlie Brooker, Jimmy Carr and David Mitchell all rather funny but Lauren Laverne just isn't... is it just me or are women comedians just not as good? Lauren Laverne isn't a comedian! I find the material most female comics use to be a bit samey so I'd say no. Saw Sarah Millican the other month and she was ok but nothing special although Lucy Porter is funny............and hot!
skinnydipper Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 A friend and myself were "treated" by our wives to Victoria Wood tickets a few years ago. He and I left at the interval and went to the pub. Our wives stayed and enjoyed the rest of the show. Horses for courses I guess. Don't find Sarah Millican particularly funny either but thought Jo Brand aka "The Sea Monster" used to be quite good.

Corky Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 As comedians I don't find them particularly funny. In comedy-type shows they can be. I've liked some of Dawn French's stuff, and I enjoyed Men Behaving Badly where half the main cast was female.
Guest Bilo Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 I'm laughing, weirded out and aroused all at once. I'm with Finners on this one, Sarah Silverman is glorious.
Saxondale Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 I'm laughing, weirded out and aroused all at once. I'm with Finners on this one, Sarah Silverman is glorious. She absolutely bombed when she came to the UK. As these reviews explain: http://www.guardian.co.uk/stage/2008/oct/21/comedy-sarah-silverman http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/theatre/comedy/3562353/Sarah-Silverman-at-the-Hammersmith-Apollo-death-strikes-suddenly.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1079106/After-bombing-Jonathan-Ross-worlds-hottest-comedian-Sarah-Silverman-flops-London-stage.html British audiences are just more discerning.
leicester4life Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 All of Jo Brand's material is just, "I'm fat, I hate my husband"
Darkon84 Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 That would explain why there are quite a few Lesbian comedians around, aren't female comedians comediennes or have I made that up? I thought that as well, not that it actually matters. If i's wrong, at least I'm not the only one Women in sketch shows or sitcoms - Yes Women doing stand up - No. As for Silverman, I'd probably smash it, but theres something about her I just can't stand and don't find her funny. She failed gloriously at the Secret Policemans Ball the other year, where even Russel Brand did well!

General Smuts Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Ridiculous to suggest all women aren't funny. It's just that British female comediennes aren't as funny as American's. America is full of them. Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Aubrey Plaza, Elizabeth Banks, Kirsten Wiig, Sarah Silvermann - all hilarious all fit as ****. In England we have Sarah Millican. Who is rough as arseholes.
Webbo Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 There are some good women comedians, Sarah Millican's a good example, I saw a woman at the Highlight a couple of years ago who was hilarious. There are just less of them.
Foxhateram Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 There are some excellent women comedians on this forum. You just gotta understand the type of funny they are. AOWW and Katy step up.
