Despite all the shouty separatists with their flags and slogans and car stickers (tons of them on the M8 today), I still think that the quiet majority here will stick with the Union.

Too many up here will watch the markets fall heavily tomorrow and start worrying about their mortgages and pensions.

Could go either way, though.

To those wishing for "sponging Scotland" to leave the Union, do you also want The North East, Wales, Northern Ireland, the inner cities etc to depart, leaving you and about 5 of your rich mates in a country all of your own?

I would prefer England to be independent, so yeah I'd be happy to lose the union all together.

If England, Wales, Scotland and NI were separate "States" similar to the USA, the only people that it would suit in the long run would be the English.

Can't find a single thing wrong with that. It high time we looked after ourselves. We would be so much better off shedding those millstone countries . Then we can round up all those plastic Jocks who have spent a life time living here and a life time hating us ( including that London born idiot Rod Stewrat) and escort them to the new border and chuck them over the wall . Big yes from me and the sooner the better.

Andrew Neil just tweeted that the Scottish Sun is poised to back Independence, against the wishes of the London-based editorial team, but apparently with Murdoch's blessing.

Neil has been hinting all week that this would happen, because Murdoch wants to stick it to Cameron and 'the establishment' after they threw him to the wolves in the hacking scandal.

I don't read it myself, but this could be big...

Small wonder you feel a bit of hate if that's how you view them.

I'm one of several hundred thousand English living up here (we are by far the largest 'minority' here) and I''ve never had any bother.

If you chuck the sweaties out, they''ll kick us out up here.

:(

It would be absolutely great If the Scottish Sun did this and there was a backlash in England with the Sun going the way of the dodo.

Murdoch is a blight on the UK.

I have nothing to add to this debate other that the English are incredibly passive aggressive, maybe more so than any other nationality on Earth. For that reason alone I'd be tempted to vote 'Yes'.

You get to vote on Scotland's independence from Sofia ?  Well done you must have some connections and no mistake.  :D  :D

I find it all very sad.

We are Brits - not Scots and English.

It would be a sad day for Britain if Scotland chose independance.

It's a strange set up anyway in how they've chosen the people who can vote. As of this moment is an English born Brit living in Edinburgh any different to a Scottish born brit living in London. How do they decide who should vote for such a momentous decision.

Secondly the whole point of a "yes" vote and a "no" vote is biased. Yes is positive, No is negative.

I think that Cameron and his cohort are the people who come out of this badly. I don't understand their vision unless it was simply based on removing Labour and non-conservative votes from the General election.

Sad idea that I hope doesn't lead to a sad day.

English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish all lose from Scottish independence.

Sorry but two points, firstly, a ****ing lot of people identify as English, Irish, Welsh or Scottish. That's not to say they aren't also British but claiming we're all simply British and nothing else is part of the arrogance that creates nationalist sentiment in the first place.

Secondly, this is a practical vote, not a sentimental one. The old faux kilt wearing pricks that haven't lived in Scotland for twenty, thirty years should have no say in the future of a country they don't live on

in. Scottish independence has far more impact on Vacamion than it does Sean Connery and he should definitely have the bigger voice.

It doesn't matter if you're from Fort William or Fort Lauderdale, if you live in Scotland this is your life.

1. Look at your passport. You are British, not Welsh. You are as Welsh as you are European or Terran (which means you are but for purposes concerning the UK you are British).

2. Your naivete astounds me. This vote affects those living in England as much as those living in Scotland. Did you not notice the weakened pound this morning? Do you not understand the affect of Oil revenue becoming Scotland's not the UKs? Do you understand the affect on business and jobs that will mean large companies relocating to England (RBS and others have already stated this). The list is endless. The UK is NOT only Scotland and this vote involves the UK not only Scotland.

Your lack of width of understanding in this situation surprises me.

Independence is a concern for the people living in Scotland and many of those living outside Scotland. How you can ignore hundreds of years of amalgamation is amazing.

Oh, and Nationalist sentiment is simply a form of ignorance, an argument used by brainless idiots to support an insupportable claim. Just like the use of "colour" in racism. What a red herring you throw.

We shoud make it clear if they vote yes that there will be a fence going up pretty sharpish.  We cant have an open border letting anyone in.  Also lets be 100% clear that they must take the share of national debt which their Oil income allows them to pay.  Good luck with that once the oil runs out.  It would be incredibly selfish of Scotland to leave the Union.  I hope they also took note that they will not be an EU member either, they would have to apply like everyone else.  Alex Salmond is a power hungry twat.

This smacks of the Lib Dems in the last GE. I wouldn't get your hopes up, Matt.

Everyone getting swept up in the romance of the issue, the emotive debating, the clever campaign.

They still haven't answered most of the important, practical issues and they aren't looking likely to. Come the anonymity of the voting booth the No voters will come flying out of the woodwork.

Cautiously optimistic I'd say I am at the minute . It's certainly going in the right direction though.

I think you give the electorate far too much credit. If Salmond can be this close after his shameful dodgy of the currency question he can be this close come polling day.

Joining the EU will be a great move for them though, a country where over 50% of the population receives some sort of welfare will fit right in. The Germans will probably end up with a couple of islands by the end of it and a bigger stash of whiskey than Gazza.

Agreed.

I pay my taxes up here. I am registered to vote here. No taxation without representation!

Yes supporters going into meltdown about the BBC reporting the Duchess of Cambridge being up the duff, followed by reports of the pound plummeting and Scots firms shares going down the gurgler.

They think it's orchestrated.

In Aberdeen the other week, I saw posters saying 'Boycott the biased BBC'. :D

I think the Kate thing is a coincidence and the financial news is a direct effect of business seeing through the sentiment and fearing a mess after a Yes vote.

I still think No will win.

Just out of interest will you think about moving back south if there's a Yes vote?

No. My life is here.

Unless things took a real turn for the worse and living here was no longer safe or viable, I would stay put.

I'd be gutted to live in a 'foreign' country, though.
