Happy Fox Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Ben Marshall and Martyn Waghorn http://www.thefa.com/England/mens-under-21s/News/2012/squad-azerbaijan-norway-290812.aspx
EnderbyFox Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Well deserved on Marshall's part Slightly bemused as to why Waghorn has been called up though
Happy Fox Posted 29 August 2012 Author Posted 29 August 2012 Well deserved on Marshall's part Slightly bemused as to why Waghorn has been called up though Likewise the only reason I can see is his performances for the Under 21's merits him a place as a back up striker certainly not his club form is the reason for his selection.
Milton Keynes Fox Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Well done Ben, full deserved! Waghorn erm...
Aus Fox Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Well done the both of them, I think this is a reminder to all the Waghorn knockers just how young he is. Still needs time to develop but has the potential. Needs a loan stint where he will play every week.
Steve Agnew Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 I repeat, Waghorn has the technical ability of a Horse. He would be out of his depth playing for Anstey Nomads.
Steve Agnew Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Looking at that squad, the next generation of England players and particularly strikers is going to be woeful.
LeicesterAreGoingUp Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 well done marshall, u deserve it .....
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Waghorn?! That, Mr Pearce, is why you will never make it as an accomplished football manager. What a farce!
Guest NGoloMode Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Waghorn has 2 goals in 3 games which England won for the under 21s.
Mack Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 I thought Waghorn played well in the first half, arguably his finishing was a little off, but equally the keeper made some Worldy saves.
stevelcfc Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Looking at that squad, the next generation of England players and particularly strikers is going to be woeful. Well, waghorn got called up, enough said
dakin_fox Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 apparently ben marshall is now a defender? I saw that as well after struggling to find his name under midfielders.
MattyFromLE Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 I thought Waghorn played well in the first half, arguably his finishing was a little off, but equally the keeper made some Worldy saves. Ahhh! Somebody else who was watching the same game as me. First half he had 3 or 4 good shots that were blocked/saved. The lad has talent, since when did we start slating every single one of our players? What part of "supporter" do some people misunderstand?
Ric Flair Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 I'd actually rather have Nugent, Beckford and Vardy than Delfouneso, Sordell and Wickham. What a shocking forward line-up that is for the under 21's.
5waller5 Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 I'm clearly not a "supporter", because it seems as a "supporter" you have to blindly think that every player that pulls on a blue shirt is world class. However I have seen pretty much every game that Waghorn has played for us, and he is a terrible footballer (IMHO). It just proves what Psycho knows, how does he keep getting these gigs from the FA??
foxesfan1989 Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Marshall totally deserved! Knew it wouldn't be long. Wouldn't rule him out getting a few full caps in his career. Waghorn I am really happy for too, as I like the guy. But let's be honest, its an odd selection. Now we now why Pearce was there the other day!
Mark_w Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Well done to both of them. Maybe if we actually played Waghorn for a decent run of games we'd see the form he showed during his last loan spell and for the England youth, as opposed to the average player we get when he is given rare appearances, brought on from the bench without the time to change the game and played on the wing as he has been used the last three years. Only Leicester fans would complain about their own player getting an appearance for the England youth team, other fans might actually be excited. Marshall hasn't been incredible so far this season, but he obviously deserves the chance, had a great run last season.
NewquayFox Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Well put Mark, Waghorn was supposed to have had a rubbish 2nd half last night but he gets the honour of an England call up and certain folks give him grief, surely a month or two on Loan would give him some confidence. Also a big well done to Ben Marshall on his call up.... ;0)
5waller5 Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Maybe Pearce told Marshall he could bring a mate? .... Dear Mr Marshall Plus Guest, You are cordially invited to play for the England U21's. Dress code: Grey lounge suit.
kingfox Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Waghorn Well done to Marshall though fully deserved.
Ashley Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 I did say in the match thread last night England had representives there. They were there to watch Waghorn, Moore, Drinkwater & I knew about Marshall but didn't post it(he already had the call up).
21st Century Fox Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 I'm pretty sure I remember watching the U21 6-0 victory over Azerbaijan, where Waghorn hadn't played regularly for a while and came on as a substitute and scored, so maybe Pearce thinks he has something to offer in that respect. Still seems bizarre.
