Beckford - will he go or will he stay?

We won 337,500 from the FA Cup last year, as well as probably the same in tv money as we had games on the box. Say the same, that means we got 750,000 in prize money. Beckford got 5 in the cup prior to the Chelsea game and without them goals there is a good chance we would not have progressed. Say against Forest for example when we were 1-0 up, Beckford banged in 3 and won us the game. Without him who knows what would have happened. I understand that all the winnings can't be allocated to him, but his goals helped us win 750k which would have bought us a player or 2 or paid his wages for roughly 20 weeks.

I agree with other posters that if you say that his goals meant nothing because we didn't win the cup, then his league goals meant nothing because we didn't get promoted or relegated. A striker should be judged on his all round goals in all competitions against worthy opposition. We played good teams in the cup and he scored. Those teams did not just roll over and let us step ur our games but they played with the intent to win as well. Just like we played at the same level and intent when we beat Swindon.

Anyway IMO Beckford hasn't quite lived up to his price tag yet but he has shown some good signs. Players need time to fit into the team and he has now had a year so I would expect him to excel this season and start realizing his potential.

So if he scored 15 goals in the cup and none in the league you would be perfectly happy to have him as your main league striker still?

Another Beckford topic that's gone past 20+ pages, with only a few actually being about the original subject (this time the transfer) and the rest is just on about his performances (AGAIN).

Maybe Babs should be barred from Beckfords threads, but then again it helps pass the time

With that extreme then no. But a mix of goals is perfectly fine by me. The cup is a competitive competition and goals are as good as any. He helped us move on and win a large amount of prize money. I agree he has to be better in the league but we can't always expect a striker to start banging them in from the moment he signs. I think it would be silly to sell him now as starting his 2nd season, I would expect him to have start picking up his game as he should have gotten used to the team by now. And let's face it, 9 goals isn't terrible in the league by any means. Should he have scored more? Probably yes but he should still get a chance this season to build on it.

How many times do I need to go over this. To me cup goals mean feck all unless we win the cup. They do not contribute to us moving up the table, they are not going to get us promoted and they don't tell you how good someone is at their level of football. The Thais bought us to get to the premier league, they bought Beckford to do that.

Goals against lower league teams, weakened teams or against European champions where players should raise there game are one off events. I want to know if this guy is going to bang them in regularly. He scored in 10 games out of 46 and that includes cup, which means he only scored in 7, yes 7 league game all year. SEVEN.

3 of the 6 FA Cup goals were against Forest and 1 was against Chelsea. One of the teams are at our level and the other, far higher. I think he's capable of doing the job, eventually. Got to pull his finger out soon though (If he gets the chance).

Well there you go, everyone has their own tolerance levels. My concern about him is higher because I consider 9 league goals nowhere near good enough for someone costing a small fortune. I expect someone costing that much to hit the ground a bit better than that.

Probably yes but he should still get a chance this season to build on it.

Which is exactly what I have said.

If he scored 25 league goals in one game (against Forest of course) but none the rest of the season, would that be ok?

I can see your point. My acceptance of this is based on it being his first season. If he only scores 9 this season then my feelings towards him will change. Sorry I only read few the most recent posts so if I misinterpreted some of it as you wanting to ship him out my apologies!

Shame he couldn't manage it against Forest in the league. And a shame he doesn't raise his game and score against shit Championship teams rather than European champs. The question is why?

Could it be 12 against Forest and 13 against Derby?

Haha. Why not.

How about we just leave the bloody arguing for once and people agree to disagree?

Has anyone actually heard anything further, other than the tweet from hours and hours ago?

Im one of the so called Beckford lovers or in my words I like my clubs' players but has anyone else noticed against Peterborough and Charlton he seemed to play a creative role? Vardy seemed to make the runs with Beckford looking for the passes. Noticed it myself but I guess no one would care as he hasn't scored a goal a game yet!

I don't think any of us dislike him, just don't think he's been value for money. If he took a wage cut the majority myself included would be happier about him staying (Although I know he has no obligation to do so and would be stupid to). Doesn't mean people don't like their own players, it's not like people boo him at games like the majority of Leicester fans do with Gallagher, which is an actual problem.

That's the rumour on the Huddersfield site - they think someone has come in for him on a permanent and they think it's Bolton, too ?????

Posted

Not 100% sure, but I think permanent. It's my understanding that he has requested a transfer.

Cheers mate would be good to get £1m-2m for him we need the money doubt we will bring in anyone but you never know.

Joining up with Mills again if that's true then.

A match made in heaven....Attitude city at Bolton then.

Again with the claims that Beckford has an attitude *shakes head*

Whenever anyone that has played with Beckford, or trained with him, speaks of him, they always say his attitude is great and is one of the nicest guys there. The first to go round and speak to everyone to see how they are each day apparently.

He will be gone by tonight I reckon.... shame really although he wasn't as good as some would have liked and I think he should have been given another full season. But if the wages of 30k are true then it will free up some money to bring in another quality player.

if he goes we need a replacement tonight imo. Still not convinced he's going though

Requested a transfer to go to Bolton lol ... with a mighty one point more than us and also getting dumped out the cup. Their fans are doing their nut over Coyne and want him gone. lol
