Beckford - will he go or will he stay?

Would Sven of known all the details of transfer fees, player wages, bonus' and agent fees?

Who knows, but I believe he should have. Being a manager is more than tactics etc for me. Do you think Pearson doesn't know exactly what he's paying and how much they are on etc?

Would he have negotiated with clubs or agents to come to agreement on all of those things?

He wouldn't, but does his think signing a "big name" at 11pm on deadline day from a premier club when people know we are throwing cash about and desperate for a striker is going to come cheap. He probably didn't care, but I believe a manager should care.

Sven would have just said, this is who i would like.

It was then up to Andrew Neville to negotiate the fee and the players wages, i would imagine with the blessing of the owners.

Sven can be blamed for choosing the players he brought in, and what they brought to the club, but i think it`s a tad harsh to blame him for the financial side of things.

The owners could just have said no!

The board includes Andrew Neville right? I personally felt he was out of his depth when he was made football director but that is just my opinion

But did you really think that though? If so why?

just had lunch whislt watching sky sports news. maynard moved to cardiff for 2.5 mil or something like that. why the hell didn't we get him? i know we've got a few options up front but come on, at that price, it's a steal!

Because Nuge+Vardy, Beckford, Waggy+Schlupp, Fuctas, Hopper is more than enough, so much so that there's probable discontent because we're not ManUtd and people aren't happy here on the bench meaning not only would a new signing be bizarre, but we already need to ship one out

I think a manager should run a football team and those qualified to deal with company finances should do so. It alright knowing the basic wage for a player but a contract is more complicated and with all the players and staff a club employ, a managers time could be better spent than learning about bonus', loyalty payments and God knows what else. Even if Pearson or Sven did know such things are they qualified to be trusted to make sound financial decisions?

Maybe he did care but presumed that, if the correct and qualified personnel at the club said everything was fine, there was no problem.

Maybe he didn't care which is why people should be in place who do, rather than relying on a manager not qualified to understand the financial implications of his decision making.

Not saying waghorn is better than Becks, but I just get so sick of all this shit he gets especially from people who don't know enough about football to even know what league he played in for us. He has barely played for a year, he is not going to be sharp and by all accounts he wasn't that bad against Burton, better than some others. If Beckford does go we still have more than enough attacking options, including an England under 21 international or 2. That is not a bad situation to be in.

"Wasn't that bad against Burton" ????? Were you at the game ? And you accuse me of knowing nothing about football.

It's the managers job to control team moral, and it doesn't take a brain surgeon to work out that having some players on vast sums of money compared to others could lead to an unhappy squad. That's why as manager you should know what a player is earning, I don't expect them to know the complete ins and outs (i've never said I do). But they should know the basics of cost, wages and any clauses etc.

Pearson will have been given a budget to work around this year, he will need to know what he's spent, who earns what etc so that he's able to best decide what transfer moves to make to free up money etc. I don't expect them to sit with a calculator and work it out themselves, but someone will be keeping track on a spreadsheet and all it takes is a few clicks to work out what he needs to know.

Anyway, I didn't just blame him. I said him and the board are at fault.

btw, richard wright has just been handed the biggest pay-day of his life! you know for a fact he's gonna do f-all

I wonder how much he's being paid. There's no way it's £50,000 a week like someone reported. More like about £10,000 which is still ludicrous for a goalkeeper that's pretty crap, but then again getting a 3rd choice goalie in the PL isn't as easy as it sounds as you can never keep them happy.

I know what you mean and don't disagree that a certain amount of knowledge of budgets is not only beneficial but indeed required, however the manager does not, and will never, set the budgets and Sven, just like Pearson, would of been given a budget within which he was required to work. The problem for me is that he was given too large a budget in the first place, which I can't blame him for.

In the overall performance of the club of course Sven shares the blame, for the time he was here, but for financial performance I blame those that controlled those finances and who agreed to the budgets Sven used.

I blame Sven for wanting to sign Mills and misjudging his talent but I blame the club for sanctioning the deal. Plenty of clubs say no to players their manager wants to sign because demands were too high, ours said yes.
