dayday Posted 21 September 2012 Posted 21 September 2012 My problem with Waghorn is, he hasn't played well in ages, he has only had one good season for us and that was his loan spell about 3-4 years ago now. We got him back, and that season he did nothing, looked a shadow of the player we seen in his loan spell, then in recent season's he has fell down the pecking order for a reason, plus he has had a few injury and loan spells here and there. Yes he came on Sunday and looked pretty sharp in my opinion, but when his chance came he fluffed it when he should of scored, another missed chance in a long line of many in that game. Last night you can bring him on give him a go and see what he is capable of, yes yet again he linked up pretty well and seemed sharper unlike recent games he has played over the past couple of season's, but yet again he fluffs his best chance by falling over the ball, when clean through on goal, that was just like Beckford when he was clean through, then messed up his chance against Blackpool. I don't think Waghorn is good enough for this football club anymore, we have much better strikers but with those strikers we just need to get the best out of them, and goals will start coming more often than one a game. Waghorn has been decent in the past, but over his last couple of games, his performances have been laughable especially last season apart from Leeds, this season so far with the chances he has had, he should of scored 2 in 2; however it's 0 in 2 because he can't hit a barn door. First few minutes when he came on against Wolves he went to make a pass, then ended up kicking the grass, and last night he is through on goal then falls flat on his face. Just don't think he is good enough, and I don't know why Pearson loves him so much. Not defending or praising the lad but come on he has hardly been given the chance to shine, what i know he is a young lad trying his hardest if not to hard to impress...injuries and different management have hardly helped his development so i think you are being harsh. To say we have better strikers at the moment, well thats open to debate because of what i have seen this season is not much,Nugent looks out of sorts and has since March,Beckford is surplus and Vardy is will he or won't he.

Don't waste your breath some "fans" don't realise they are supposed to support the whole team not just their favourites.
Babylon Posted 21 September 2012 Posted 21 September 2012 Whatever has happened behind the scenes, it's a real shame we've ended up with a mis-firing Nugent and two unproven players who both look they belong in the lower leagues as our only playable strikers. It could cost us. As for JB, it was obvious from the beginning that him and Pearson would have a falling out at some stage. The only surprise is that he is still at the club. I wouldn't be surprised if Pearson is treating him like shit due to yet another bust up between him and one of his players. This too could cost us. Could you let us know what amazing players we have lost due to fallouts? Would really like to know, is it Matt Mills (who Reading, Leicester and now Bolton fans think is shit), SSL (still at the club), Beckford (still at the club and scored in only 7 league games all year... his replacement has already scored in 2)? When the manager if "falling out" with players who are actually any good it becomes a problem, when a manager is attempting to get rid of massively expensive flops... it's not.
bluesbrothers Posted 21 September 2012 Posted 21 September 2012 Maybe I'm in the minority, but I reckon Waghorn's had two decent performances in the past 2 games. I'd be happy for him to be a regular substitute for one of our strikers at the minute. Who knows, if he finds the net now and again he could find himself in the first 11, since both Nugent and Vardy seem to have run themselves into the ground to finally get to the point of scoring last match!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 21 September 2012 Posted 21 September 2012 Waghorn appears to be only the shadow of the player who first came here. I think his confidence is in tatters, which is a shame, and he needs to pull himself together if he is to have a future at this club. Somehow, I just don't think this is going to happen.

I agree in the fact that Waggy needs his confidence back, but saying he needs to pull himself together I think is a bit naive. I think his lack of confidence isn't down to him as much, 2 different managers playing him out of position, getting dropped, being sent out on loan, getting injured - not really had the best of time has he? I think it's as much his responsibility as it is the management and fans - we need to show support. You don't just turn awful overnight and I think most fans recognise that the lad, at some point will return to former glory - whether or not thats here I don't know, but I hope it is.
whoareyaaa Posted 22 September 2012 Posted 22 September 2012 for me Waghorn is fighting a losing battle and I would have Fuctas, Beckford and Schlupp in front of him, he is obviously low on confidence so I think he should be sent out on loan and see how he does, but imo he isn't good enough for this team at the moment and should never be ahead of the other strikers are people watching the same game?
theessexfox Posted 22 September 2012 Posted 22 September 2012 Don't go to many games due to distance, but I remember him coming on as a sub at home 2 seasons ago, and banging in the winner, and the whole place going mental. He'd been out of favour until then I think as well.

You think Waghorn should never be ahead of the other three... Even though his record in the Championship is better than all three, even though when in form he's performed better than all three at this level, even though he's only 22 and nowhere near hitting his peak.

Even though his record in the Championship is better than all three, even though when in form he's performed better than all three at this level, even though he's only 22 and nowhere near hitting his peak. Everytime I have watched him play which is a fair bit he is nothing like the player he was when we had him on loan. I just don't think he will ever be a first team regular here its just seems like he is trying to hard which isn't a bad thing I suppose but it's just not working, If you compare him against Vardy then you can clearly see the difference between the two players.
Mark_w Posted 22 September 2012 Posted 22 September 2012 Everytime I have watched him play which is a fair bit he is nothing like the player he was when we had him on loan. No, no, no. I honestly don't believe you can have seen a fair amount since he signed properly. I mean he's only started 12 games since he signed and the majority of those were on the wing... how can you judge him fairly on that?
Babylon Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Thought he did ok when he came on. A few more sitters missed and he'll be starting over Vardy.
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Thought he did ok when he came on. A few more sitters missed and he'll be starting over Vardy. I don't agree with you on this Babs. I think Vardy's place is safe. He missed a couple of chances today (good saves though both I think?) but Vardy is a real handful to mark. Vardy and Nuge are doing well together. Vardy's running creates room for Nuge. I doubt Pearson will readily break this partnership up.
kingfox Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 He was decent today. People take note of my Sig

Happy Fox Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Did alright but I really fear if we loose Vardy or Nugent to injury our backs up don't inspire me with much confidence in all honesty.
kingfox Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Good lad, have a plus one. Thanks, today has made me seen the light It's what we were all thinking. I won't be kissing his arse anytime soon though unlike yourself

kingfox Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Didn't say you had to, but your 'victims' did make me laugh. It was legendary and it was all banter. Two favourite words of mine.
Guy Posted 23 September 2012 Posted 23 September 2012 Don't go to many games due to distance, but I remember him coming on as a sub at home 2 seasons ago, and banging in the winner, and the whole place going mental. He'd been out of favour until then I think as well. Yes, I believe that was the final game of our golden spell seven matches straight winning streak under Sven in early 2011, when we beat Bristol City 2-1 on Friday night with the final kick of the game. Waghorn's never been the same player since his loan season with us in 2009-10 when we reached the Championship play offs but did have a brief return to that form under Sven, as said. However since then he's lost his way for a multitude of reasons and his present achilles heal is good old lack of confidence. He needs a run in the team to restore that confidence I think and I suppose Pearson is attempting to do this by bringing him on as a sub ahead of seemingly more deserving strikers like Beckford and Schlupp. Doing anything other than that would automatically suggest Waghorn has no future here but once his confidence is back I believe he will flourish in front of goal again.
