Beckford to Huddersfield extended to End of Season

Recommended Posts

In the article earlier in the week, it seemed they were struggling to justify his contract for the division and now it looks like they'll be mid-table also-rans they don't want lumping with it for 3 or 4 year deal.

Makes financial sense for them.

Hopefully he can whack 'em in so we can offload in the summer.

I don't get this. Why not wait until the end of the transfer window before extending this? We could've held out to see if any clubs could offer us a better deal and allow us to sell him to get him off the wage bill and more money for transfers now. I don't see any benefit for us in agreeing to extend this now. He won't be worth any more at the end of the season than what he is now.

F**king brilliant for Huddersfield though, they get to have him during his 'peak' and they don't have to commit to him financially. They don't even have to compete with any other clubs.

The worst thing about this is it means that everyone will still be bringing up his name after a bad result for another 5 months. :xmasdry:

Do you really think they haven't tried to find a buyer or get a better deal? Sorting it sooner rather than later gives Pearson a clearer picture of what he can afford to do and to enable him to start negotiations for players he wants to loan or buy.

Makes perfect sense to me.

Do you know the terms of the deal, or the value of having Beckford off our wages for 6 months?

It is possible they have paid us some money to keep him for 6 months, not unheard of these days.

If Beckford is on the reported 30-40k a week, it means we have just saved around 20 weeks wages, which is 600k - 800k + any deal we have made with Huddersfield.

That with any money we make/save from Danns/Gallagher/Wellens etc in Jan would finance a couple more quality signings, and we can still sell Beckford in the summer.

Don't forget Beckford has been injured and has only just returned completing his first 90 minutes in 2 months on Saturday.

Would be tough to push a sale through, this way it is done and dusted early, the money is available and NP can pursue his preferred targets.

NOW STOP BLOODY MOANING ABOUT EVERYTHING AND ENJOY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why loan him to Huddersfield when they have no interest in buying him?

To save money on his wages.

To avoid having an out-of-favour, unhappy player turning up to training every day.

To weaken a prospective play-off rival.

To, on the off-chance he does something he never has before and scores a reasonable amount of goals at this level, boost his minimal transfer value.

I could go on.

Who is better than him?

Vardy? No.

Futacs? Doesn't look like it.

Waghorn? Don't make me laugh.

Schlupp? Obviously not.

Nugent? Possibly, on his day.

Beckford is, at worst, our 2nd best striker, and I reckon had he played as much as Nugent this season he'd have scored just as many goals.

someone who talks sense at last because most on here just don't have a clue if it hit them in the face

Of course I don't know the terms of the deal but I get the impression that we get taken advantage of easily when it comes to money and I find that frustrating (this is the first time I've ever thought this while we've had Pearson in charge who is doing a great job of balancing the books). The thing is, Beckford isn't getting any younger and his market value would surely drop because of that. Yes it would be tough to push a sale through but I would've thought it would be possible before the end of the transfer window. Also, I wouldn't have thought that Huddersfield would be paying his full wages especially after listening to the interview with their chairman back in September.

However, Davie and yourself raised a good point about knowing what we have to spend in advance, I didn't think about it like that. Also, I didn't realise he was injured, I thought he had literally scored 3 goals during all his time there which wouldn't have surprised me at all. That does change things, I suppose if he can stay fit towards the end of the season and score some goals, his transfer value will increase or we'll at least have the chance to flog him in the summer.

To be honest, I just want to put anything to do with Jermaine Beckford behind us at this football club and move on. I feel that whatever happens, we will just be cutting our losses but I just don't want to see us get completely taken advantage of as a club.

Also, I don't moan about an awful lot at all. I am generally positive about our club!

ENJOY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will don't you worry. :)

Beckford is not a Pearson type player, he does not fit in his strategy!

You're right Beckford prefers playing with a target man in a team that just hit it to the big man, or hit the flanks and stick crosses in, we are not that type of team, thank god.

I'd be honest and say whatever wins us games!

I know what you're saying, but teams generally don't get promoted playing that type of football, and if they do they come straight back down, most teams get promoted and stay up playing decent football on the ground.

I get your point, but we don't look like were going to get promotion playing the way we do, our recent form is shit

Beckford was crap almost every time he played for us... some players suit certain clubs, odd i know. But he doesn't belong here.

Ca't deny our recent results have been poor, even if our performances haven't been, but I'm an eternal optimist, we are still fifth, and it won't take long in this league to turn it round, a little run of results and we are right back in the mix.

We can agree on one thing though whatever the problem is, Beckford is not the answer.
