Tom17LCFC Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 Xavi is almost certainly the best passer of the ball but Iniesta is close behind and has a better all round game imo. It's an impossible argument though really isn't it, everyone has a different opinion on what constitutes being the best in the world. I've noticed no defenders have really been mentioned yet either, but they don't get as much publicity as more attacking players. Dead interesting argument anyway.
AKCJ Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 Falcao Xavi Hernandes Iniesta Bale Rooney Ribery Ibrahimovic Ramos Fill the top 10 up with those in any order you please.
Danizen Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 d'you really think that? I can't see why at all if I'm honest mate. Messi is just a complete different class, absolute level above. I personally think CR's overrated. Surprised by how many people rate Iniesta higher than Xavi as well. In my eyes Xavi is right up there in 2nd place, absolutely top, top player. Whoa! You mock one ridiculous comment and then make an even bigger one yourself! In my opinion, it's Iniesta. The man's a genius. Which reminds me, after Spain's Euro 2012 final, Adrian Chiles sounded puzzled saying, 'Spain haven't got any geniuses (sic), they're just a collective'. I was screaming, 'Andres Fooking Iniesta, you inbred tw*t!'
shen Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 Again, great passers but I think if you're talking talent there's others that are better. They're obviously amongst the best players in the world but they specialise too much in one thing for me. And strikers don't? Pirlo passes so well short and long, constantly moves, has a lethal freekick whether direct or indirect and is one of the coolest cucumbers in top football. He even scores the odd belter from distance. And he's just gone out on the wing and put a peach of a cross for De Rossi to tap in as I wrote this...

I was screaming, 'Andres Fooking Iniesta, you inbred tw*t!' I didn't mock it. That's it though, everyone has their own opinion. Ronaldo's a top player, but I don't understand the love-in with him. I think Xavi's on a par if not better than Ronaldo. He may score more, but Xavi's vision is 2nd to none. I made the same point earlier, there's never going to be a definitive correct answer because everyone has different opinions on what makes the best player in the world.

Can't say I even come close to agreeing with those. Ozil, Schweinsteiger, Di Maria, Aguero, Toure, Van Persie, Gomez, Kompany, Lahm, Benzema all above those imo.

No, hence the obvious inclusion of Ronaldo and Messi as the undisputed top 2. Like people have said, it's an down to opinion at the end of the day. Don't get me wrong though, I love the Pirlo's and Alonso's, I'd go as far as saying Busquets is one of the best centre mids in the world at this point despite how much I loathe him. Would like to see him in a different team, preferably the Premiership to see how he'd fare.

Ozil, Schweinsteiger, Di Maria, Aguero, Toure, Van Persie, Gomez, Kompany, Lahm, Benzema all above those imo. Ozil can't finish a game. Schweinsteiger could maybe sneak in. Di Maria is over rated to hell. Aguero, while being a good player, didn't score as many as Rooney last season. RVP was fairly 'average' till an amazing season last year. He's also a walking sicknote. Although on current form, no doubt he's right up there. Toure completely slipped my mind and should be in there. Fabulous player. Not so sure on Gomez.. Huntelaar is a better player than him. Kompany could maybe sneak in. Lahm is another over rated player in my opinion. Benzema could maybe sneak in too. Ribery got like 16 goals and 26 assists last season. That's a direct involvement in 42 goals. Not bad for a winger, I think you'll agree. Bale is an unbelievable athlete with the ability to change a game whenever. Sneaks into the top 10 for me. I agree with Redknapp in the fact that he could walk into the starting 11 of any club in the world. Except I don't think he suits Barcelona's game. Would you like to be a full back against Ronaldo and Bale? I know I wouldn't. He'd fit right in at Madrid. Rooney, while not being a nice guy, stiil delivers. Perhaps not for England, but he's still a fantastic footballer.

Perhaps not for England, but he's still a fantastic footballer. Rooney's not the all round player people think he is. He's a great striker, but for someone who likes playing deeper he can't skin anyone for shizzle. And he's always struck me as mentally weak, he loses his temper when things aren't going his way and uses aggression to hide behind when he's having a shocker. As you say he's never done much for England and I don't think he can handle the pressure the nation puts on him. Bale may have the talent to win games on his own but he doesn't do that very often, I realise he's had a lot of attention from defenders since that Inter game but his influence is often limited. I think he's got a tendency to just run with the ball as fast as he can, when really he's far more gifted. I think he's a world class talent but I don't think he's up there with the best just yet. Ribery, again, as an all-round player is very overrated. He's good, but I've never thought he's been anything special. I don't even think he's France's best player these days. Agree with you about Ozil's finishing but pretty much the rest of his game is superb. He's Germany's answer to Iniesta, though not quite as good. Lahm is one of the best fullbacks in the world I'd say. Looking through the list again though I'd have to agree with you on Gomez - I'm guessing it's Mario Gomez who I feel is extremely overrated. He's got a lot of goals in Germany but Luca Toni did as well. Most of the times I've seen Gomez play he's wasted a lot of chances.

Just minor things are what separate them. Out of curiosity, what would your perfect 11 be? Playing 4-4-2 with two strikers and two wingers. Doesn't necessarily have to be a team that'd work in real life but one that on paper is unparalleled in your opinion.
Fox You Forest Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 Jerome Murdock, bagged another two for Coalville last night.
Finnegan Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 Gomez has wasteful moments, sure, but his record for club and country over the last eighteen months says it all. How anyone can, straight faced, claim Huntelaar is a better player is beyond me. Got found out as average the second he left Holland.

Fox92 Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 In midfield, I've got to go with Schweinsteiger. Quality, just makes it look easy.
Adster Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 Di Maria isn't anywhere near the third best player in the world.

How anyone can, straight faced, claim Huntelaar is a better player is beyond me. Got found out as average the second he left Holland. Are you joking? He's scored 29 goals in 32 games in the Bundesliga last season. He scored 14 in 12 in Europe and overall scored 48 in 47 games last season. A lot of people consider him to be the best in the world inside the penalty area. On the other hand, Gomez scored 8 less goals in 2 more games than him. In a side that has players like Robben, Ribery, Schweinsteiger and Muller to help him score.
Guest ttfn Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 Iniesta. He's like Xavi but faster, more agile and with more of an eye for goal.
