Mack Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Am I the only one who finds this decision by the management at Chelsea utterly ridiculous? The bloke is clearly still at or near the peak of his powers, and at 34 is good for a two year contract extension. I really hope he signs for Man Utd and rams it down Abromovich's throat, his one size fits all over 30's policy is just stupid.
Corky Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Surely if he accepts a one-year deal he'll prove good enough for another, like Giggs and Scholes? FFP is coming in soon, and I'm sure Lampard is one of the highest paid at Chelsea, along with Cole, which is probably why Chelsea don't want to tie them to two years with no great sell-on value. Still, he's a club legend and this isn't a particularly great episode.
Kitchandro Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Being a club legend obviously counts for nothing under their regime. That's 3 they've fobbed off since the summer.
goose2010 Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 he is still a world class midfielder and would walk into any teams midfield in the prem. I hope he signs for Man Utd as well to be honest. Unless he wants to do a job for a club in the championship
KingPowerLCFC1884 Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 We won't mind giving you a contact frank. You know where your heart is...
Fox92 Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Great player, great servent to the club and I'm sure they will miss him. His goals are essential more than anything, and I doubt I will see a player score that amount of goals from midfield. I mean, isn't he now Chelsea's second highest top goalscorer!? But from a finance point of view, which Roman is probably thinking about. I bet Frank is on over 100k a week and Chelsea could easily get a new, younger/fresher midfielder in for that, or maybe less. Still, I think it will be a loss to them. Still think if he stays in England, it will be for West Ham or Queens Park Rangers.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 In 1 and a half years time he would be entering his final year of his contract (if he gets his wish of a new 2 year deal). He will be 36 by then and could seriously be slowing down. Maybe Roman would only give him a one year contract but Frank wants the financial security for an extra year? He's gotta be on a good 140k.
Captain... Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Once again Chelsea proving they are a club with no class.
Leicesterpool Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 He'll stay in London, my guess he'll join is uncle at QPR.
Corky Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Back to West Ham maybe? Can't ever see the fans accepting him.
davieG Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Can't ever see the fans accepting him. Fans are fickle, didn't Joe Cole leave WHU about the same time.
Guest MattP Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Fans are fickle, didn't Joe Cole leave WHU about the same time. Big difference though, no idea why, they all still love Cole but still sing about Fat Frank every game.
Corky Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Fans are fickle, didn't Joe Cole leave WHU about the same time. They've always liked Cole, gets a good reception when he returned with his other clubs. Lampard never gets a good reception from the West Ham fans.
WhenYourSmilingLCFC Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Arsenal, need some steel in midfield. Spurs? Was AVB a fan of Lampard. Theres a few possibilities. As someone said, going back to West Ham, or QPR with Redknapp. Hate Chelsea with a passion, but liked Drogba and Lampard.

Webbo Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 I think with Benitez only having a contract till the end of the season Abramovic wants to get all the unpopular decisions out of the way before the new man comes in. If it was me I'd give him a 2 year extension.
Narborough_fox Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 A one year rolling contract is what I'd be offering him, lets him play for a new contract meaning has an incentive to play well for the whole season while keeping at the club. Something similar to United and Giggs.
Jon the Hat Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Its a bit like the Joe Cole decision. If he is not going to play every game then you would not want to pay him more than say £60k a week, and from £150k a week there is no way that is happening. Cheaper to get an up and coming player or two for the same wages who are happy to be rotated.
Tielemans63 Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 I think with Benitez only having a contract till the end of the season Abramovic wants to get all the unpopular decisions out of the way before the new man comes in. If it was me I'd give him a 2 year extension. Yeah I thought that too. Seems to me that he's been brought in basically to take all the flack and deflect the negativity from RA who's decision it really is. This is literally a quick buck for Benitez.
Fox92 Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 In terms of Lampard back to West Ham. Why not? He doesn't get a good reception but I bet they'd have him back. He played for West Ham last year along with fellow former players (Cole, Terry, Ferdinand etc) and the fans were all around him for autographs etc I think he gets the bad reception because of what happened. His uncle was the manager, and his dad was a coach. Lampard's dad got sacked then Frank left and some comments saying he he hated his time at West Ham, or something like that. I'm guessing the likes of Joe Cole and Rio Ferdinand left on good terms.
Munshi Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Absolutely stupid IMO , He leads them and without him they're just a team of good players.
AyewJoking Posted 10 January 2013 Posted 10 January 2013 If Lampard did end up at Man Utd would that force Scholes into re-retirement? Would Fergie want both? When exactly does Scholes plan on retiring?
MC Prussian Posted 16 May 2013 Posted 16 May 2013 According to Lampard himself, the situation at Chelsea is looking slightly better and he may get a new contract: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22548313
