davieG Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 http://www.southlondon-today.co.uk/Sport.cfm?id=617&headline=Berylson%3A By Toby Porter CHAIRMAN John Berylson has revealed Millwall lost out on a wages bidding war with Leicester for the services of striker Chris Wood. The former West Brom hit man signed for the Foxes after Nigel Pearson tabled a £1.25million offer, with £750,000 worth of add-ons. Kenny Jackett matched the bid, after Wood had scored 11 goals in 18 starts for the Lions - but it was in wages that the Den club could not compete. The New Zealand international is now thought to be on up to £20,000 a week. Berylson told Lions Player: "Chris was disappointing. "West Brom accepted both bids from us and Leicester, which were well into seven figures. We matched the figures. "We were meeting all the salary figures until the very last time. "Every time Leicester got told what was being offered, they increased it by one or two thousand a week. It got silly. "It was a substantial investment we ere prepared to put in. "But we lost a very fine young player and he is doing very well for them. "Now it is up to us to fill a few holes. That is what we are doing. We are actively, daily seeking players that we want. We don't want bodies - we want players that can contribute." £20k a week, if true gives us an indication of the level of wages Pearson/the club are now prepared to pay.
indierich06 Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Oh get over it Millwall, he didn't want to come to you! Stop trying to pacify your neanderthal fans. EDIT: and if we only paid 'a few thousand' extra per week than Millwall were willing to offer, I doubt he's on anywhere close to £20,000 a week.
Babylon Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 £20k a week, if true gives us an indication of the level of wages Pearson/the club are now prepared to pay. If you take his words at face value that means Millwall offered £18/19k a week. Utter bull plop.
thybluefox Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 "thought to be on..." being the key phrase in that sentence.
Jace Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Good job Millwall stopped when they did we would of gone all the way to £50,000 per week
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Good job Millwall stopped when they did we would of gone all the way to £50,000 per week Don't you mean £50.00?
Corky Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 If you take his words at face value that means Millwall offered £18/19k a week. Utter bull plop. Yes. Not exactly trouncing the opposition is it?
Mack Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 And their 'Fan on the Board' released a statement at the time saying that Millwall matched us financially on everything........... That was Billy Bollocks. Maybe their neanderthal fans will apologise to the player and his father now?
Babylon Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 And their 'Fan on the Board' released a statement at the time saying that Millwall matched us financially on everything........... That was Billy Bollocks. Exactly. One of their papers reported the £20k when he first signed, they had written it as fact but finished the sentence with a question mark, just to highlight they weren't actually sure about it. Pillocks.
Guest MattP Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 He'll be on a good whack but he's not on 20k a week surely. That's nearly half as much as what Beckford is on.

No wonder why he wanted to leave a club that tried to publicly humilate and lie about him like that. Scumbags
Ford Super Sunday Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 But remember, every Millwall fan and director does their job because they love it, and they'd reject any chance to move on for a bigger wage and to a company with bigger ambitions & resources. Ergo all playing staff should behave like this wonderful moral behaviour and stay forever.
Foxblogger Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Millwall's spending on wages in 2010/11 was roughly half that of Leicester's (£8m compared with £16m). I find it difficult to believe either club were prepared to pay Wood £1m a year.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Cant believe that we're paying him 20k a week. I dont tend to believe what other people outside of LCFC say about us in things like that.
Maybes Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 £15k a week would make more sense as I could see Millwall offering £12/£13k
AnotherShitSeason Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 "thought to be on..." being the key phrase in that sentence. That and "up to" I other words they have no idea.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Personally I reckon he's on about 8k a week. Can't see Millwall offering much over 5k per week to a player.
The Guvnor Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Pathetic attempt to pacify their knuckle dragging fans, who cares anyway.
Harry - LCFC Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Literally cannot wait to fvck them up when we play them at home! Getting tired of these excuses they keep coming out with to appease the mob that turns up at The Den on a Saturday. I'd pay good money to see Wood score the opening goal.
surrifox Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 should make their task signing up players quite straight forward in the future - lose out in the bidding and get the details smeared all over the media and get portrayed as a grasping twat
MPH Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 When you consider we are paying players like Beckford approx 30k a week.. Nugent at least 25k a week... and We are not the only big wage payers in this division.. I cant imagine how much Blackburn will be paying their 8m pound man.. Infact all the teams coming down will be having some players around or above the 20k mark.... Is it really that hard to believe we would be paying him that amount? He's a young lad with immense potential after all.... When you read that article the flipside of the coin is they lost out on a great player like him all because of one or two thousand a week ( their own words). No wonder they want to paint him in a bad light... to save face.
davieG Posted 9 January 2013 Author Posted 9 January 2013 The next player they sign will be looking for 18/19K a week.
