Your Favorite Ever Away Game Weekend

Recommended Posts

just wandering what everyone else's it.... for me i really enjoyed the Brighton game.

quite long winded but we went down to London from Loughborough on Saturday morning as my mum was taking my sister to 1D at the o2, we then headed off to the underground getting several trains to the main train station, we then got a almost empty train to Brighton... then got the football supporters train to the ground.... obviously we watched the game and despite waiting in the cue for the train we decided to walk to the station which we were told by a policeman was a 40 minute walk, so after a hour of following the main round which was the correct route we asked for directions, in which the lady telling us told us that we were nowhere near the main station and that the policeman had directed us to the minor station... so we then had to catch a bus and were on that for 20 minutes or so, we then got the train, then got the underground and went for a meal, at about 9:30 we got the tube to the o2 and picked up my sister and mum, we then got the tube to the hotel (which was very nice by the way) and stayed the night, we left the hotel about 10:00am the next morning and went sightseeing around London then around 12:00PM we drove home, on the way back we stopped off at Mcdonalds and the day got even better when i won a instant win soft drink :D

anyway that's pretty much it, not enjoyed a away game so much in years and i have been to a fair few....

to be honest i quite miss it even though it was for a day, back to normality tomorrow.

Newcastle away when we were tonked 7-1 mine was. I think we were already in the playoffs and they were already champions so it was a bit of a nothing game. I remember it being windy as hell and I think we were 5 or 6 nil down at half time but none of the city fans cared. Good night out up there as well after!

Portsmouth last season. Got up at 5:15 and mucked around in London for a while because we had so much time to spare. Enjoyed the game too, really exciting and our fans were pretty loud. Sang Everybody Danns Now () on the train back and got a few odd looks. lol

Cardiff this season is a close second, just a car journey with mates but trips like that can be hilarious. And it was. It would've beaten Portsmouth if Gestede hadn't scored. :/

Norwich last season. 'Under dogs'.. Everything what happened with them reducing our allocation. Having Norwich supporting mates who think they're MASSIVE  them telling me and our friends how many we will be 'smashed' by. Topics on Norwich forums with similar titles.. And we win. Backwards header in your cup final.

Great weekend. We set off from Leicester about 8am. Pre drank in our hotel before going to the complete Angliar? Pub then night out in Norwich after.

Hereford in League One was so good. You know a ground is "proper" when the urinal is the side of a prefab painted black with some guttering on the floor. And it was a moment where we finally felt confident of the title. A full on party with copious amounts of good old oo 'ar oo 'ar cider flowing. Magic!

Portsmouth away..

I can't for the life of me think what season is was but I went down with a bunch of my mates to see us win in an absolute deluge of rain. We were AMAZED that the game wasn't called off to be honest. At that time, the away end was open so we got utterly utterly drenched.

Then we went to the Isle of Wight for the night and enjoyed the victory.

Magic days...

02/03?

Genuinely can't remember mate.

What I do recall is having to walk back to Fratton Tube station with lines of coppers either side of us while 'Pompey' tried to back through.

I remember them scurrying around like little rats trying to find a chink in the Police chain.

lol

Fookers..

Middlesborough away this season was fun (took my then heavily pregnant wife lol) and we won 2-1

Walsall away from the League 1 title winning season with the snow etc etc (and we won easily)

Man City away in the cup when we were tonked about 5-1 (David Oldfield scored our goal)

Port Vale away in 1990? ish, lost 2-0 but went with a great set of lads and had a laugh etc etc

Coventry away last season when we won 1-0 (took about 6'000 ish)

Edit: and Huddersfield away when we won 3-2 in the League 1 season

lots of others

I'd probably agree there. I was present that day, as well. It felt like being transferred back in time, Edgar Street has such a 60ies/70ies flair to it.

Plus, I wasn't situated in that bit, but the terracing looked like it could crumble and give way at any given point! lol

Had a good few weekends out of following the city.

But one that sticks in my mind is leyton orient away in our l1 season.

Reason being i kid you not. My mates other half posted some letters on the way to pick us up. Only problem sge posted our fecking match tickets at the same time.

Being stood at a post box having missed our train trying to pursuade royal mail we needed them out and quick. Really made us grateful to get to the game and enjoy london.

Liverpool 81, Orient 80, Man City 95, Sunderland 95, Charlton 92 and Southend 09. God knows what order but those days have every penny I've spent and all the frustration I've felt worthwhile, no other hobby comes close for sheer nostalgia.

Surprised by this. I didn't think it was the best game and was really shocked by how flat the atmosphere was. Was the first time I'd noticed a quiet away following from us and my mates who support Arsenal and Gillingham didn't think much of it

Forrest Away in the league cup a few years back. The game where we gave them a goals head start cause they were one up before Clive Clark collapsed in the first game. The atmosphere was amazing that night and the match matched the atmosphere. 2-1 down with minutes left and somehow we pulled it off. Great Night!!

Oh i remember that game, singing 'we're wet and we're one nil up' , the old bill were insisting we got the train back to Leicester even when we showed them we had tickets to Brighton, and pompey fans swarming all over the escort!

My very first ever away game (minus the league cup finals) was when Clark collapsed, I remember sitting there thinking it didn't feel like a football match, something was just off. The replay was a fantastic night, remember my dad telling me we were going to steal it and not feeling as optimistic. The Sheehan freekick was sensational, and when that ball left Clemence's boot, magical!

Peterborough in the play-off season was cracking fun.

This was another one of the best away games along with Preston when we secured a play off place. Both games were sensational that season, loved every moment!
