Adster Posted 28 June 2013 Posted 28 June 2013 Best centre back in the league. Would be gutted to see him go. Especially to Florist.
Bettsj2 Posted 28 June 2013 Posted 28 June 2013 How many centre backs have we had as good as him since we left the Premiership? McAuley Kisnorbo Tunchev (pre injury) Hobbs Brown Mee Gerrbrand Vitor Again, not saying he's not decent, just that we could replace him. Be honest, before he signed, how many fans said, 'Wes Morgan would be a good buy'?

Hobbs, Brown & Gerbrand weren't as good as him, in fact Brown and Gerbrand were awful players, Mee wasn't close to him either and neither was Kisnorbo, he was mediocre
Fox92 Posted 28 June 2013 Posted 28 June 2013 I'd probably say Vitor, Hobbs and Tunchev (pre injury) were as good. However, none weren't as solid imo. Obviously Hobbs and Vitor were young players. Tunchev read the game so well, shame he got injured.
Guest ttfn Posted 28 June 2013 Posted 28 June 2013 Hobbs, Brown & Gerbrand weren't as good as him, in fact Brown and Gerbrand were awful players, Mee wasn't close to him either and neither was Kisnorbo, he was mediocre Kisnorbo was a great centre back at this level. He couldn't pass for sh*t but his positioning, heading and tackling was absolutely outstanding. Not saying he was as good as Morgan, but saying he was "mediocre" was ridiculous. If he hadn't got injured against Sheffield Wednesday we wouldn't have gone down. If we sell Morgan though, we're ****ed. Not only is he a class act at this level, but he's one of the very few experienced players we've got.

Bettsj2 Posted 28 June 2013 Posted 28 June 2013 Hobbs, Brown & Gerbrand weren't as good as him, in fact Brown and Gerbrand were awful players, Mee wasn't close to him either and neither was Kisnorbo, he was mediocre Gerbrand was a joke. In his season with us, Mee (apart from his debut) was superb. Hobbs was fantastic until Sven took over. Its all opinions so you're entitled to yours. My main point is that previous to him coming to us, nobody would have called Wes the best centre back in the league because we didnt see him week in, week out. Because of that, I dont see a reason why there wouldnt be someone else that could be as good. Debut aside he was absolutely solid.
Guest ttfn Posted 28 June 2013 Posted 28 June 2013 sorry but a professional footballer that can't manage a simple 5 yard pass is the very definition of mediocre, at best, if every time he gets the ball it goes to the other team and they attack again its only a matter of time before they score and we have next to no hope of building any pressure of our own Except when we had the third best defence in the league it wasn't a matter of time until they scored. Anything but. He wasn't perfect but he certainly wasn't mediocre.
Kitchandro Posted 28 June 2013 Posted 28 June 2013 McAuley Kisnorbo Tunchev (pre injury) Hobbs Brown Mee Gerrbrand Vitor Again, not saying he's not decent, just that we could replace him. Be honest, before he signed, how many fans said, 'Wes Morgan would be a good buy'? Only Hobbs was arguably as good as Morgan from that lot. Tunchev had the potential but barely played at this level, Vitor was injured a lot as well and did not play enough to be proven at Morgan's consistency (and lets assume he was do you really think we're going to pick up that kind of player now; a loan from Benfica? Times have changed) Kisnorbo was good but can't remember him being as good as Morgan has. The rest I wouldn't say are even close to as good as Wes. I take your point in the last sentence but by the same token most people also thought Mills would be a good buy. I think we'd struggle to get one who is as consistently impressive as Morgan has been, let alone 2, which is what would be necessary if we sold Wes. Sure, there are plenty of solid centre backs, but I can't remember seeing someone who is quite so dominant of strikers on a regular basis as Morgan play for us. If we sold him I'd be surprised if we ended up with 2 centre backs the majority were happy with next season. That's just my gut feeling.
norfolk-fox Posted 28 June 2013 Posted 28 June 2013 Second bid has gone in apparently, don't know for how much tho
Callabinho Posted 28 June 2013 Posted 28 June 2013 He won't go, unless forest offer him a stupid wage, which they can't.
Babylon Posted 28 June 2013 Posted 28 June 2013 Newsflash. WE'RE NOT. In fact as much as it pains me to say, id say forest have a better chance than us.Based on?
AnotherShitSeason Posted 28 June 2013 Posted 28 June 2013 Based on? We're not going to sign anyone. Pearson set to start with same team / same formation / same no idea / same post match BS as before.
fleckneymike Posted 28 June 2013 Posted 28 June 2013 Let's have some perspective. With all due respect, whilst he is a competent defender at this level, that's all he has ever been. Forest have been plundered over the years for their 'best' youngsters yet Wes has remained. How many times have Forest 'threatened' promotion in all his time there? Would I be happy for him to go? No Do I think he's irreplaceable? No Do I think Forest want him back? No. This is good PR for them, make a lot of noise about wanting our players and give the impression you're a club with 'ambition'.
Guest Posted 28 June 2013 Posted 28 June 2013 We're not going to sign anyone. Pearson set to start with same team / same formation / same no idea / same post match BS as before. Take it we can all look forward to your same old miserable comments next season then?
AnotherShitSeason Posted 28 June 2013 Posted 28 June 2013 Take it we can all look forward to your same old miserable comments next season then? No point changing anything up eh? Nothing to see here.
AnotherShitSeason Posted 29 June 2013 Posted 29 June 2013 They can actually! they're wage structure is, apparently, nowhere near as fooked up as ours is. they've supposedly not got our problem of 'hangers-on' earning megabucks for loitering around the fringes of the squad. Forest,(love 'em or hate 'em), did their salary trimming some time since....hence Wes signing for us rather than being offered a megabucks contract there. Since then they've gained investment, but still haven't fallen into the 'Citytrap' of offering stupid £££s on near eternal contracts. They have leeway for salaries under FFP, we don't! All fairly simple when you look at it really. Sensible, prudent, shrewd, realistic. I think they'll do pretty well this coming season.
Jaspa Posted 29 June 2013 Posted 29 June 2013 All fairly simple when you look at it really. Sensible, prudent, shrewd, realistic. I think they'll do pretty well this coming season. Go support them then!
Tom17LCFC Posted 29 June 2013 Posted 29 June 2013 To the 5 guests in this thread, fvck off Forest. There's no nice way of putting this, we don't like you...
hornyhollthefox123 Posted 29 June 2013 Posted 29 June 2013 McAuley Kisnorbo Tunchev (pre injury) Hobbs Brown Mee Gerrbrand Vitor Again, not saying he's not decent, just that we could replace him. Be honest, before he signed, how many fans said, 'Wes Morgan would be a good buy'? steady on.. Tunchev when he was fully fit would have been the only one who came close to Wes
dannythefox Posted 29 June 2013 Posted 29 June 2013 Morgan is better than Hobbs but I'd have Hobbs alongside him any day! Mee, brown were not on Morgan's level that is an insult
Bettsj2 Posted 29 June 2013 Posted 29 June 2013 Morgan is better than Hobbs but I'd have Hobbs alongside him any day! Mee, brown were not on Morgan's level that is an insult Brown plays instead of Bruce against Cardiff and we'd have gone up. Solid defender. Wes had a great season and none of us want him to leave, but he is replaceable if he chose to go back to Forest.
MrSpaM Posted 29 June 2013 Posted 29 June 2013 Too many are missing the point. It's not a case of how much they bid - it's not Cardiff or Swansea bidding for him, it's his boyhood club which he knows inside out, managed again by the manager who's done the best with them in his time there. I can see him being tempted by that. If he signs a new deal I'll be as happy as I'd be with any potential signing. Most forest supporters I know were glad to get rid of him at the time. They all laughed when they heard how much we had paid for him. Dont be under any illusion, he wasnt regarded as one of their better players at all.
